Cottage in Wells, Somerset, England, UK - Fully Refurbished, In A Small Close, 2 Minutes Walk From The Historic Cathedral And Bishops Palace

This lovely cottage, with its relaxing rooms & all the facilities to provide a home away from home, is in the heart of Wells, England’s smallest city. Unusually for Wells it offers a parking space, so you can park your car, relax and explore all Wells has to offer.

Facilities include kitchen/diner, lounge with stairs to first floor; double and twin bedrooms, sleeping 4 (with space for travel cot); modern bathroom including bath with electric shower over and heated towel rail.

The Cathedral is probably the best known historic building in Wells, but there are lots more to discover. Vicars Close, said to be the oldest continuously inhabited street in Europe, the Bishops Palace, still home to the Bishop of Bath and Wells, a tablet commemorating William Penn who founded Pennsylvania.

A fabulous market is held in Wells twice a week offering a wealth of goods. All this within 5 minutes walk! For outdoor types, the Somerset levels offer excellent flora and fauna and bird-watching, with renowned RSPB sites. For walkers, a vast wealth of footpaths criss-cross the area, including The East and West Mendip Way, provide something for all ranges of age and ability.

Clean,airy and close to town centre

We had a fantastic time in this lovely cottage. The town centre was a short walk away. It was well equipped with everything you could need. The Fountain Inn was directly opposite us and was a very good place to eat. Would recommend

Great Location!

Lovely property and great location, easy 2min walk into Wells which is a lovely city. All details sent on promptly and good communication from Sandra. Great that the property has a parking space but it is very tight when all the spaces are occupied. Overall a lovely stay in a lovely property, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Clean, well equipped property in great location

The house is small but comfortable, well equipped and very clean. The location is brilliant; a few minutes walk from Wells Cathedral. The parking is a real bonus in such proximity to the city centre although I think it would be a little tight for a longer car. Lots of lovely places to visit in the area. A nice welcome pack of milk, biscuits and cider. I would take my own hairdryer if I went again as the one provided is a travel model but this is a very minor quibble.

The parking is such a rarity with property of this size so close to town that it has to be balanced out with being a little tight! Having had cause to use the hairdryer this week, (long story!), I agree with your comment, and will be replacing it as soon as possible.

Good location, well furnished, friendly owners but uncomfortable seats.

The holiday was spoilt by my car being unable to get out of the provided parking area without either going over a flower bed or hitting a wall. Unfortunately I miss judged and caused considerable damage to the door. My wife being registered blind was not in a great position to help so I asked one for of the neighbours to help me out. The parking sensors all went off at the same time since the plants and wall were so close together. The owners did sort the situation out for us quickly by arranging for us to park in the pub car park opposite, otherwise I would simply not have been able to continue the week.

Other than that, the cottage was very well located and furnished. It would have been nice to have comfortable chairs , we stay in cottages a lot and this is a common complaint.

I will be complaining separately on this issue as I have never had to claim on my insurance in 30 years of driving for an issue I was responsible for. The photograph or literature make no mention of this difficulty. Any large cars would simply not make it. The roundabout outside also makes the entrance and exit dangerous, I noticed the locals always used a lookout when they exited on to the main road. Unfortunately I couldn't do that. On one occasion a motor mike just missed a car entering the gap between the houses.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments, that our cottage is in a good location and well furnished, apart from the seats. We have to balance ease of cleanliness,(leather/wipeable), so the cottage is welcoming for all incoming guests, with comfort. As covered in our personal correspondence, we're sorry you had the accident with your car, but glad you appreciated our prompt action(arrived at property & sorted within an hour), of providing alternative parking and covering the cost ourselves. We have owned and rented out the holiday cottage for 5 years, with no other accidents. The entrance is a little narrow and needs to be negotiated with care. This has always been in the details of the cottage on the Owners Direct site, together with a map link to view the entrance, and we have now emphasized this in our literature. The 5 residents who use the parking are all single people with varying size cars who negotiate the entrance on a daily basis, back onto the main road, (not a roundabout, and busy, but not dangerous when approached with care). Parking is a huge bonus in a property so central to all amenities, (5-6 minutes walk to Cathedral and High Street), and out of the 6 holiday let properties nearby, we are the only one to have private parking. We have to balance this bonus with taking care and negotiating traffic carefully when coming in and out.
