About the property

Cottage in Wells, Somerset, England, UK - Fully Refurbished, In A Small Close, 2 Minutes Walk From The Historic Cathedral And Bishops Palace

This lovely cottage, with its relaxing rooms & all the facilities to provide a home away from home, is in the heart of Wells, England’s smallest city. Unusually for Wells it offers a parking space, so you can park your car, relax and explore all Wells has to offer.

Facilities include kitchen/diner, lounge with stairs to first floor; double and twin bedrooms, sleeping 4 (with space for travel cot); modern bathroom including bath with electric shower over and heated towel rail.

The Cathedral is probably the best known historic building in Wells, but there are lots more to discover. Vicars Close, said to be the oldest continuously inhabited street in Europe, the Bishops Palace, still home to the Bishop of Bath and Wells, a tablet commemorating William Penn who founded Pennsylvania.

A fabulous market is held in Wells twice a week offering a wealth of goods. All this within 5 minutes walk! For outdoor types, the Somerset levels offer excellent flora and fauna and bird-watching, with renowned RSPB sites. For walkers, a vast wealth of footpaths criss-cross the area, including The East and West Mendip Way, provide something for all ranges of age and ability.

Why Sandra Denmeade chose Mendip (Glastonbury)

We love Wells because it's such a very friendly city. It's so small & easy to get around, with lots of independent businesses offering a wide variety of food, goods & activities to suit all tastes. You're also right in the middle of beautiful surrounding countryside, so it offers the perfect mix.

Fantastic little cottage, Wonderful stay.

  • 5 of 5

We loved Lucy's Cottage. The cottage was compact but cosy. The owners had thought of everything. The kitchen marvellously equipt and the whole place was spotlessly clean. The location was brilliant and we really enjoyed not having to search for a parking spot each evening. Wells is a great central location for exploring Bath, Lyme Regis, Chepstow and the numerous National Trust properties in Somerset. We will certainly return next time we are in the U.K.

Thanks so much Sandra and Nigel for allowing us to use Lucy's Cottage.

Clean and tidy but quite austere

  • 4 of 5

Cottage was clean and tidy but quite basic . Would have been more homely to have a few pictures on the walls and perhaps a better welcome pack . Although there was a small bottle of cider and we understand it's just a gesture that would have been fine for maybe a single person a bottle of wine would have possible been a better idea for a couple .Tea coffee sugar was also in the welcome pack but no bread but a cake . . Our daughter and son in law loved the cottage but it was a bit sparse . I realise it's only a holiday cottage but a few extras would have made it much nicer and cosier . The cottage is in a perfect location for cathedral and local shops etc.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments, which we have noted. We're really pleased that your daughter and son in law, who stayed with us, loved our cottage, and wrote a lovely review in our guest book. The welcome goodies are provided so that guests are able to come in, get their bearings, and have a first very welcome tea or coffee, (milk provided), and a slice of cake, after what is often a long journey. The bottle of local cider is a pint for two to share, and it's offered as a welcome gesture. We have reviewed what information is provided in our welcome pack, without there being too many rules and regulations. We're glad you enjoyed Wells

My daughter and I have stayed at Lucy's cottage this year for the second time and it is delightful. Near the centre of town with a parking space. The cottage has everything you could want for a wonderful holiday.

Cosy Cottage spotlessly clean

  • 5 of 5

A little gem of a cottage, literally around the corner from Wells Cathedral, perfect location.

I suggest Google Earth, if you have it, as you can see exactly where the cottage is, otherwise its easy to miss the entrance to the little courtyard. Its situated in a gap between two cottages. The cottage is bright, pleasantly furnished, and spotlessly clean. A nice little welcome pack awaited us of milk fruit cake and bottle cider ! Along with a nice card from the owner, updating all the little quirks of the cottage. Lovely well equipped kitchen, comfy lounge, and good sized bedrooms.

Would definitely recommend this cottage. It was excellently placed for exploring Wells, and good roads for travelling to Glastonbury and the Coast.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the lovely review, and our 5 stars! We would recommend Google Earth to spot our entrance, as we have the best of both worlds - tucked away with parking, but within easy flat 5 - 8 minutes walking distance of the historic attractions and High Street amenities of our beautiful city of Wells.

Lucy's Cottage - Home from Home

  • 5 of 5

We spent a nice long weekend at Lucy's. A lovely cosy cottage in the centre of Wells but tucked away from passing traffic. A short walk to the Cathedral, palace and city centre and nice restaurants. The car parking was an added bonus and the owners provided good instructions on getting there etc. We will go again.

First impression - very good - and that impression remaind!

  • 5 of 5

Ideally situated for touring Somerset and perfectly located for visiting family in and around the area. five minute walk to the centre of the city - excellent market, very charming city.

The cottage was lovely, clean, quiet and off road.

The bus service was exceptional - frequent buses all over and on time.

I highly recommend this property and the welcome from the owner. The welcome gift and card was a good personal touch - thank you.
