Great for a family

  • 4 of 5

This is a spacious apartment for a family of 4 - it sleeps up to 8, but was ideal for us, grandparents taking our 10 and 11 year old grandsons skiing for the first time for them. It is in a very quiet area, with the bus stop only a short walk away. We went very early in the season, so the bus service was limited, but it worked out fine. We caught the 9:12 or 9:43 bus each day to get to Les Carroz and came back on the 16:30 bus. The apartment was very clean and well maintained. There is a hob and microwave, but no oven so don't buy Pizza to cook for your first night as we did since you can't really fry or microwave them! However, we soon found plenty of things we could cook there. I would submit pictures with this review but don't see a way to do it . Anyway, the apartment was lovely for us and we all enjoyed it. The owner is rather elusive and not easy to contact - BUT in our case he was flexible and allowed us to book from New Year's Eve to January 6th which was a Thursday to a Wednesday, and during the Christmas/New Year break. All other owners we contacted would only book for a whole week, and from Sat to Sat or Sun to Sun, so we were delighted to find an apartment and owner who could fit in with our limited time scale. We ate lunch each day in Les Carroz or Mountain Restaurants, and self catered for breakfast and supper. There were some games in the apartment as well as a TV, radio and DVD player. No Wi-Fi which is not a bad thing - we actually had to play games which our grandsons loved. There were some left in the apartment and we tried them all. We took charity shop family DVD's with us and left them there for the next family to enjoy. I would give the apartment 5 stars except for the location which is further from Les Carroz than we expected - not really walking distance but the bus service was fine. We did get a taxi twice to get home earlier as the first bus back was not until 4:30. We were confused by the leaving instructions ( in fact there were none given to us by the Conciergerie des Carroz who manage the property for the owner). We had a list of leaving instructions from the owner ( strip the beds, clean the dishwasher etc) that said leave the keys on the table and leave the door locked. Since we didn't fancy jumping out of the window we had to leave the door unlocked when we departed early on the Wednesday morning. The block was very quiet. Thanks to Owners Direct for finding this for us.

There is a direct road into the town from the airport which remains open throughout the ski season. This makes it the ideal getaway location for your ski holiday. Car hire is recommended.
