Chateau de Carsac is an old wine chateau set in the heart of historic Dordogne amongst rolling hills, vineyards and fortified towns. Lovingly restored to a very high standard it offers spacious internal accommodation opening out onto sheltered and sunny terraces, 6 acres of gardens and fields. The main terrace has a 9m heated pool with a loggia where you can watch the kids swim while enjoying a lazy lunch. There is also a lovely swimming lake with a sandy beach with a cafe and a bar a mile away in the valley and just beyond is the old fortified town of Villefranche de Lonchat with restaurants, bars and shops.

Ideal for families and fully equipped for babies and children with cots, high chairs and loads of toys. Outside there are safe gated terraces, more toys, paddling pools and an alarmed pool.

Perfect for groups who want to relax, try wine tasting (we are close to St Emilion - one of the oldest wine centres of the world), sample local markets and cuisine, visit beautiful chateau and gardens. With Bordeaux and the coast to the west and Perigueux and the historic Dordogne to the east this is an ideal location for fun packed holidays. We can arrange excursions and tours in our new VW minibus or perhaps return to lovely meals cooked to perfection on the terrace.

The chateau combines traditional French architecture with the latest facilities including wifi internet, hi definition TV, hi fi, a well equipped kitchen, everything you need for a memorable holiday. We are proud of our carbon neutral green credentials with ground sourced heating and energy saving throughout. We can also pick you up from station or airport and have lots of bicycles for car free holidays.

The chateaux was a case of love at first sight, sitting on the edge of a village by a beautiful old church surrounded by its own gardens, barns and fields. I remember standing in the loft looking 6 metres up to the old roof beams with a sense of awe.

Special interest holidays:

The Chateau is about 25 minutes from St Emilion, perhaps the heart of the worlds wine trade where wine tasting courses and chateaux tours are organised by the tourist office. Come at the end of September and help with the vendage. We also keep a small cellar and can organise wine tasting parties.

Food lovers will enjoy plenty of local food markets full of fresh local produce and the chateau has a well equipped kitchen to cook your finds. The owner lives locally and is allways happy to join in with some local recipe ideas!

There are a number of cycles available and endless leafy lanes and villages to cycle through. The chateau is also amidst a network of waymarked footpaths which normally avoid the roads.

For explorers we are at the centre of historic Dordogne. The hundred years war was finally ended at nearby Castillon, the ruins of Edward first's ancient fort are a mile away. Lovely chateaux, gardens, fortified towns and endless flea markets are all within easy reach.

Coast/Beach:

There is a large swimming lake with sandy beach, cafes and bars about a mile away. For the more adventurous the Atlantic coast with a 150 miles of sandy beach for swimming, sailing and surfing is about 90 minutes drive. There are a number of charming ports and resorts for bars, cafes, restaurants and of course the seaside!

Travel:

The nearest airport is Bergerac (45 minutes by car) and Bordeaux (60 minutes). The TGV stops at Libourne (20 minutes) and we are 10 minutes from the autoroute at Montpon. We are about 6 hours drive from St Malo ferry and 9 hours from Calais. A car is recommended (there is so much to see) but car free holidays are available, we have a 7 seat minibus to pick you up from a station or airport, can arrange excursions and tours and cycles are available for regular trips to markets and shops.

Distances:

A small baker, shop and bar is about a kilometre away by road or by foot along a path away from the road through the vineyards. A larger selection of shops and a restaurant can be found 2 miles away. Nearest main town with shops, supermarkets and food markets is about 10 minutes drive. The nearest place of interest is 10 metres away, a lovely 12th century church adjacent to the property. St Emilion is 30 minutes, Bordeaux and Perigueux are an hour away by car.

Further Details:

This is an eco-friendly chateau renovated using traditional building techniques; lime for building and local recycled oak for windows and doors. The thick stone walls act as a natural heat accumulator topped up by a heat pump which moves heat from the field in front of the chateau to the house with impressive efficiency. The same system can be used to heat the pool in spring and autumn or to cool the house in summer if required. Only 4% of our energy use is based on fossil fuels and to help you offset the carbon you use to get here we will plant a tree, one for each visitor.

Notes on accommodation: The accommodation is contained on the ground and first floors. Downstairs is open and safe for children, the main terrace is gated and stair gates can be fitted on request. The second floor attic provides a further large and partly refurbished space complete with sofas, bean bags and computer for older children to hang-out (please note not really suitable for small children). Outside the main terrace descends to the pool terrace and loggia. Outside: The main terrace is partly shaded and has a table for 12 with further smaller tables that can be added on if required. Through a gate and down 3 steps to the pool terrace with a heated 9 x 5m pool. This has a small paddling area and very wide shallow steps. By the pool is a covered loggia with an outside kitchen, barbecue and a table for 10. Plenty of sun loungers, side tables, inflatable toys, children's tables and chairs are provided. The pool terrace is sunny, sheltered and has unobstructed views of the garden, the valley and the ruined chateau beyond. Plenty of garden games are available including croquet, badminton, boules and children's toys. Utility Room: Small utility area with iron and ironing board, washing baskets, cleaning materials and so on Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Fresh linen and towels including pool towels are provided on arrival. Further cleaning and laundry available for a small supplementary charge. Welcome pack of food and wine provided to get you through your first night. Other: Lovely old dining room full of charm with a stone fireplace and a ceiling of oak beams and chestnut boards. Dining table seats up to 12 but can be extended with one of the outside tables.

This is a fabulous place

This is a fabulous place. The old chateau is nicely renovated with high ceilings spacious rooms and a lot of charm. Two living rooms, a dining room and a kitchen in addition to five large bedrooms two with integrated bathrooms gives you enough space for family or friends. There are several outdoor places where it is nice to sit and a nice pool and pool area. I think it is nicer in reality than on the pictures. To swim in the pool by night with the tower of the chateau, the tower of the neighbor 12th century church and the stars above you is quite an out of this world experience.

You really get much more for the money here than along the coast. For the people in need of the beach the nearby (walking or bike) lake have a nice spacious constructed sand beach with different facilities, kayak rental for free and playing ground for kids. There are also many nice small villages around to explore. We had planned to tour around to different places but we ended by just being around the house and nearby areas since it was an attraction in itself.

The owner lives next door, is helpful and friendly but leave you alone if you don’t ask for help.

Beautiful chateau in lovely surroundings

We booked this Chateau for a 2 week family holiday Aug17 (11 of us in total) all ages baby to grandparents.

The Chateau is stunning and the owners Phil & Lucy made sure we had everything we needed, Phil even purchased a large piece of plywood so we could use one of the tables for table tennis which was a hit throughout the whole holiday.

The pool and gardens were perfect and we had use of on site cycles, boules and badminton, tennis rackets, there were even inflatables for the kids to play with in the pool

Good local shops and supermarkets are a ten minute drive away - there are restaurants around the area but we enjoyed cooking our own food and eating outside the Chateau every evening.

Phil grows a lot of vegetables and tomatoes in the gardens which we were free to use daily, another great touch

Next to the Chateau is an old church which is over six hundred year old which is still in use and we got the chance to look inside - amazing building

Took day trips out and visited caves, a beach and a number of quaint French towns on market days which are a must for fresh produce.

Other days we walked around the local villagers and cycled down to a local lake and man made beach which is less than a mile away

Lucy's homemade cakes were amazing especially her scones which we all agreed were the best we have ever tasted.

This was our second holiday in France having been to Marseille last year which we loved but this holiday was even better, the location and the property were excellent

Great family property with superb pool

We enjoy a lovely week with our family, great pool and family home. The chateau was in top condition, and a great location for a relaxing break. We would highly recommend, and love to visit again in the future.

So good we came back.....twice

We love Chateau Carsac. We haven't returned to holiday destinations before, though we've had some lovely holidays, but in this case we have been 3 times. The Chateau is beautifully renovated with everything you could need, (we are a family of 5 so the pool is an essential). It's close enough to a number of great places to visit, including a swimming lake with activities like canoeing and the excellent town of St Emilion. Phil and Lucy are superb hosts and they treat us like friends not customers. There's lots more that I could write, but that might spoil the experience of discovering it all! It's a very good example of 'you get what you pay for'.

A week of Bliss

We had a very relaxing and memorable week in Carsac. The Chateau is stunning and was well stocked with everything one would need to cater for a young family. The pool was a perfect size, was well maintained and had a safety alarm/gate system. Phil, the owner, is very helpful and sorts any requests out quickly. He hires bikes out at a very reasonable rate which is great as the surrounding area is beautiful and ideal to explore on a bike. St-Emilion is around 30 minutes drive away and is a lovely place to visit/eat out at. I would heartily recommend this rental for a young family.

Bookings:
Bookings may be made by email or telephone and a 25% deposit is payable to secure your reservation. The balance is payable 8 weeks before arrival together with the security deposit; this will be reurned within a week of departure. We are happy to send a copy of our brochure (with links to a lots of photos) or a copy of the rental contract prior to booking if required.

Changeover Day:
Prices are normally for weeks from Saturday to Saturday but other periods can be accommodated out of high season so please contact us for prices. Check in is from 5pm on the day of arrival and by 10am on the day of departure.

Notes on prices:
Prices are comprehensive of everything you should normally require. Crisp linen and fluffy towels are included along with pool towels and normal cleaning upon your departure.

There is a 10% discount for lettings of 2 weeks or more, 15% for 3 weeks or more and 20% for 4 weeks or more. There is also a £200 discount for small groups of 6 or less and a £200 supplement for groups of more than 12 though this may be waived for small children. We require a non-refundable deposit of 25%, the balance (75%) is paid 8 weeks before your holiday together with a security deposit of £500 which will be refunded immediately after your stay.

Please enquire if you wish to bring pets, there will be a small additional cleaning charge of £25 per pet per stay. Pool heating (to 28 deg C) is available if needed and a small daily charge of £8 is made for this.
