Thorpe End Cottage sleeps 4 to 6 people in three bedrooms and Little Thorpe Cottage is adjoining and sleeps 4 people. They are a a five minute walk into the market square of Masham, where you will find an abundance of quaint shops, local pubs and cafes. They are both have a warmth and feel of a home that is loved and lived in. With real fires, along with gas central heating and double glazing, the cottages are always warm in winter or summer. They have the benefits of a dish washer, washing machine. The cottages are open plan down stairs so have the feeling of space but still cozy at the same time Both lounges have large flat screen TV with freeview and a dvd player. Both Have free wi fi.

The cottages are dog friendly and have their own private enclosed garden which is a sun trap in the summer months and perfect for barbeques.

About the Owner

My Husband and I now live in Middleham and are landlord and landlady of Richard The Third. We started our pub career in the Bay Horse at Masham and ran that for 6 years which is why we decided to turn our home into a holiday let.

Masham is a magical place and has everything you need nearby, great walks, great pubs, great breweries, a golf course, and boasts the largest market square in England.

The cottage itself has a lovely feel to it and is warm and cosy but being open plan also has space. It has a real fire and an enclosed garden which in the summer time is real sun trap.

It is within walking distance to everywhere in Masham.

The properties are in Masham, which we love and are within walking distance to all the local, shops, pubs, doctors, chemist, local butchers and grocers. There is lots going on in Masham through out the year and it is a great place to live or visit. The market is on every Wednesday and Saturday through the summer months and then we have varied attractions through out the year with Sheep Fair in September and Masham Steam Rally in July.

Coast/Beach:

Both Whitby (approx 70 miles) and Scarborough (approx 60 miles) are an enjoyable 1.5 to 2 hours drive away over the North Yorkshire Moors - Whitby is a magical place and well worth the drive out for the day!

Travel:

Although the cottage is located in Masham itself, a car is recommended to enjoy the surrounding area. We do have a bus stop in Masham which can take you to Ripon or Bedale and from there to Harrogate or Northallerton. The nearest airports are situated at Teeside - Durham Tees Valley Airport approx 30 miles, Leeds/Bradford Airport approx 40 miles and Newcastle Airport approx 60 miles. Train stations are located at Northallerton, Thirsk or York.

Distances:

7 miles from market town of Bedale. 9 miles from Ripon, a small city with its famous garden race course. 35 miles from the historic city of York - to amble around the quaint streets. 22 miles to the spa town of Harrogate - with its turkish bath. Places of interest: Black Sheep and Theakstons Breweries in Masham. Fountains Abbey near Ripon. The Forbidden Corner at Middleham - famous for the racing stables too. Lightwater Valley Theme Park near Ripon - kids love it. Jervaulx Abbey - pure magic.

Masham is a town, boasting the largest market place in England and has lots of lovely quaint shops to visit during your stay. The two sweet shops offer tempting goodies which will bring back childhood memories! We have an art gallery, gift shops, wine shop and a delicatessen that sells gorgeous cheeses, pickles and other delicious bits and pieces.

There is a market twice a week on a Wednesday and Saturday. There are 4 pubs in Masham all within walking distance from the cottage that offer a variety of food, along with cafes and an award winning restaurant.

The town is embraced by the river and surrounding slopes and sits picturesquely with the tall spire of Saint Mary’s church visible from miles around. Pretty riverside walks with parkland and playing fields on the doorstep, the nearby stately grounds of Swinton Castle, the fun-park at Lightwater Valley and the not so distant attractions of Ripon, Harrogate and York offer enjoyment and excitement for all.

The seaside is not too far away - an hour and a half over the Yorkshire Moors will have you arrive in Whitby with its famous Abbey and old fashioned sea side feel. Masham has lots of events going on through out the year – Masham Steam Engine Rally takes place the 3rd weekend in July, Sheep Fair the last weekend in September and The Victorian Fair in December – all are well worth a visit.

Ripon, Wetherby and Thirsk races are all within a stones throw away. Or if horses are not for you then why not try clay pigeon shooting at Warren Gill or Fishing at nearby Leighton resevoir. For the children there is Lightwater Valley Theme Park and Forbidden Corner which are both worth a visit.

Booking Notes:
Bookings are via telephone or email. Deposit of 30% of total holiday cost is required to secure a booking. Full payment is required six weeks prior to start date. Payments by cheque please or bank transfer.

Changeover Day:
Preferred change over day is Saturday, however we are flexible if this is not appropriate.

Notes on prices:
Short breaks available October - March. Minimum 3 night stay. Three night breaks start at £290. Booking restrictions apply during school holidays and summer months with week bookings taking priority from Easter through to the end of October.
