Second Cottage In A Small Row Of Five In Town Centre

Updated: 30-Sep-2016
Cottage in Swanage, Dorset, England, UK - Quiet Location With Parking Yet 6 Mins Walk From Beach

Skippers is at the end of a cul-de-sac just off the High Street, so is in a superb position for the local shops and just a few min. walk from the safe and sandy bay at Swanage. There is a small garage with parking outside - invaluable in Swanage and the cottage offers every home comfort set out over two floors. Tastefully furnished, with many antiques to include a four-poster bed, Skippers is maintained to a high standard full of those personal touches. The garage houses a variety of beach equipment and games which you are also welcome to use. For those not knowing Swanage, it is an old fashioned seaside town with its own Victorian Pier, summer Punch and Judy, a brilliantly clean, safe and sandy beach, close proximity to the N.T. world famous beaches at Studland, a super selection of local eateries offering excellent local food, its own privately owned and run Steam Train, wonderfully scenic walks etc. So many people know and love Swanage and return there again and again.

About the Owner

We chose Swanage for our holiday home as we have very strong family links with Dorset and felt that this small, old fashioned seaside town with its safe and sandy beach, offered the perfect holiday location for our family. For those people not knowing the Swanage area, the location has so much to offer everyone and usually, once visited, families return again and again. The fact that you can safely leave your car in our little carpark and then walk so easily to the beach and shops is a real bonus. Some families have told us that they have never used the car once they arrived;

Charming cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay immensely. The charming cottage had all the amenities we required, including a cot for our little one and even useful things for the beach. The outside space was welcome and lovely to eat in. Best of all was the location only two minutes walk from the beach and shops. The owners were great to communicate with and provided a lot of useful information. We hope to come again another year.

Nearest Airport : Bournemouth International Airport at 12 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Studland / Poole Ferry at 3 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Studland at 2 Kilometres Nearest Train : Wareham at 5 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Swanage Bay at 300 Metres

Swanage offers a truly beautiful, clean, safe and sandy bay which is just 8-10 mins walk from our front door. The magnificent Poole Harbour and the famous Studland Beaches are a 5 min drive in the car, all owned and maintained by the National Trust, so take your NT card for the car parks! Boat trips, fishing trips and the ferry to Brownsea Island are all readily available from Swanage Pier or next to the drive-on ferry point connecting Poole and Studland.

There are so many local places of interest to visit that you really do benefit from your own car, but there is a regular bus service which leaves from Swanage Train Station to both Poole and Bournemouth. Bournemouth now has its own Internation Aiport and there are mainline train stations at both Poole and Bournemouth. Swanage has its own privately owned steam railway offering local trips only, but with a lovely Buffet Car on board.

Further Details:

There are an excellent range of shops in Swanage for all your needs, together with a good selection of 'individual' shops, so often lacking now in the usual High Street. There is a really super selection of eateries, many offering locally caught fish - in fact Swanage is rapidly becoming famous for the food on offer. There are beach huts which may be hired at Studland from the Nat Trust shop there, and sea-front beach huts in Swanage which may be booked in advance from the local Council. If you like walking, you are simply spoilt for choice and a lot of information to include "walks" is contained in our large Information Book in the conservatory.

Swanage has its own Blues, Jazz and Folk Festivals throughout the year, together with a week long Carnival in the summer. There is a dive centre from the Pier where you can actually have a dive lesson if you wish. Fishing trips are plentiful in the summer and are readily booked near to the pier. Nearby Durlston Castle is a lovely picnic spot with outstanding views and a dolphin watch centre.

Poole harbour (a short drive if you use the drive-on ferry) offers all sorts of evening entertainment on the quay throughout the summer, and details will be in our Information Book. Corfe Castle is also a short drive (or steam train ride) away and certainly worth a visit. With so many places of interest nearby, you will be spoilt for choice, or maybe just laze your days away in Swanage enjoying a locally made Purbeck Ice Cream.
