Villa sits in its own private grounds, large area for dining & relaxing & pool.

Updated: 26-Oct-2016
In its own private woods with three different dining areas, Villa Sofia offers majestic views & luxury accommodation

Following a large upgrade to the villa we now offer 2 bedrooms and a pool to Villa Sofia.

The villa itself sits in its own private grounds. It offers peace and tranquillity as well as three different dining areas to relax and enjoy. Close to Naples, Sorrento and Amalfi Coast Villa Sofia provides you with a cultural experience to enjoy authentic Italy but still visit famous tourist sites for the day.

The Villa is modern, well equipped and very spacious. Refurbished to a high standard, Villa Sofia offers a haven summer or winter. Inside Villa Sofia there are two large spacious air conditioned/centrally heated bedrooms with super king and single beds. A lounge with open fire/ wood burner. Television, CD and DVD player, a vast selection of DVDs, books and games, Wi-Fi and printer. The kitchen is fully equipped with a six burner hob, large gas oven, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, kettle and blender. Washing powder, dishwasher tablets, salt, pepper, spices and extra virgin olive oil are always available free of charge. There’s a large bathroom with walk in power shower, large bath, WC and vanity unit with mirror and lighting. A hair dryer, hand soap and toilet paper is supplied. The second bedroom has a ensuite bathroom with walk in shower and vanity unit.

The villa sits in its own private wooded area. There are two outside dining areas to choose from and a dining area in the kitchen. The dining areas outside offer views of the gardens and fruit trees where you will find wild rocket, asparagus, mushrooms, lemons, olives, oranges, peaches, apricots and figs. You will also find a pear/apple fruit. Just behind the villa is a vineyard and olive grove.

There is a barbecue, sun loungers and rattan furniture. A large umbrella compliments the outside area and allows you to enjoy the cool shade whilst eating fresh locally produced food.

Additionally there is an area to enjoy a glass of wine or coffee by the outside fountain with sofa and chairs. On the gravel area are sun loungers which attract the sun all day. Relax in the hammock by the old fountain and enjoy the shade of the four large oak trees. There is nothing better than reading a book whilst enjoying a cold beer or glass of wine looking up at the trees and enjoying the cool shade.

Upon arrival you will be greeted by Anna who will check you in with a cool glass of sparkling wine and snacks of local cheeses, meats and bread. We provide a welcome basket of goods including milk, water, eggs, butter, cheese and bread.

Whilst staying at Villa Sofia you can enjoy a day’s site seeing at Sorrento, Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Naples or Rome. And so much more for the adventurous traveller. Within easy access of the regions hidden gems you can see beautiful hidden monasteries, cathedrals and churches. Majestic medieval castles. An amazing national park offering breath taking views on every turn. The Southern Italian royal palace with the most amazing English gardens you’ll see outside of Versailles. A working Roman baths and spa with sulphur springs. Stunning unique Italian ceramics that would grace any mantel piece.

For the more active there’s cycling, horse riding, quad biking, walking and hiking through one of the most stunning mountain ranges in the world lakes and glorious clean beaches.

For the less energetic top quality wines, olive oil, homemade cheeses, salamis, meats, sea food, mushrooms. Shoes and handmade leather designer handbags normally only available to the Italian market at Italian not tourist prices.

A two minute walk from the Villa is the Il Cortesano restaurant which not only offers excellent food but excellent prices as well. You can enjoy a two course fish starter for 12 euros ahead or a four course meal of Antipasta, Pasta with Porcini mushrooms, Veal with rocket and parmesan, homemade tiramsu ice cream and coffee for 20 euros ahead. This also includes wine and water.

Further afield is the Il Sauro restaurant with stunning views of vineyards, Faicchio, mountains and the monastery. The village of Faicchio has lots of shops, restaurants, bars and supermarkets. Local produce is sold in the supermarket and grocers. There are farmers markets on a Friday and Sunday which is lovely. Butchers sell local meats and there is a wonderful cheese shop in the village. A pastry shop sells beautifully crafted cakes, delightful pastries and authentic Italian ice cream. Well worth the visit. On Tuesday and Saturday morning you will see the local fishmonger sell fresh clams, mussels, squid and different types of fish. Just stunning.

Faicchio itself is close to Naples, Sorrento, Pompeii, and Amalfi Coast and ideal for day visits to these famous tourist sites. It is famous for its medieval castle and festival held every September. The festival is visited by many Italian people from the surrounding villages and Naples itself. Faicchio is off the beaten track and boasts sunshine the majority of year. Best times to visit between April and October. Faicchio has a wealth of quaint shops, a local supermarket and many bars and restaurants. It is approx 40 mins from Naples, 90 mins from Sorrento and Amalfi Coast where you can see attractions such as Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii, the bay of Naples and the famous Amalfi Coast. Caserta also boasts the Old Palace (Palazzo Vecchio), an 18th Century Cathedral and the Aqueduct of Vanvitelli. Casertavecchia is the ancient centre which houses the older properties dating back from 861 AD. Modern Caserta has many shops such as Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, Valentino etc. Caserta is a lively town with many shops, restaurants and bars.

Piedimonte Matese has many churches to visit. The town itself has many shops, bars and restaurants. You can find good quality leather shoe shops with shoes handmade. You can even find a tailors who will, for a price, made a beautiful Italian suit for you.

Matese is situated ½ hour drive from Piedimonte itself. Matese sits on top of Mount Matese. It is striking. Its lakes are cool and views truly breathtaking. Matese can be thought of one of lives hidden treasures. Take time to go and visit. Skiing is available throughout the winter months.

Montecassino famous for the WWII battle which destroyed the town and monastery is only a 40 minute drive. It offers stunning views and a historical perspective of the battle.

Santa Agata d Goti is a lovely little town with quaint cobbled streets, bars which sell fabulous ice creams and wonderful views from the bridge. The town is only 20 minutes drive from the villa. Worth seeing as hardly any tourists go there. Santa Agata d Goti and Faicchio are original Italy of many years ago.

About the Owner

My husband I live in England with our daughters Sofia-Clara and Katie. We love Italy and enjoy spending time there. It isn't always easy because of work commitments but when we can our first stop is Villa Sofia. Being in Italy allows us time to spend as a family. Laughing, playing with our daughters and just having fun together. We have many friends in Faicchio and spending time with them is important to us. We love to entertain and are just as happy to sit and relax in the beautiful surroundings of our home. Italy has a special place in all our hearts and we couldn't imagine being without it.

We love the sound of the birds, hearing the wind through the trees and generally relaxing at Casa Sofia. Our only complaint is that we cant spend more time there. We genuinely love it.

Guestbook comments from the owner

As we ask all our guests to independently review our property we have decided to use this section to say thank you to all our guests for their lovely comments. In the villa we have a comments book and we are always touched by the lovely things people say about our villa. We are so pleased that the majority of people feel that it is a home from home and so well equipped. They always say they feel privledged to be allowed to stay but it is us, the owners, who are privledged. We are lucky to have guests that enjoy and take care of our villa as we would. So thank you very much for looking after our home and enjoying its wonderful personality and surroundings. We hope to see you all again soon.

Really enjoyed ourselves at Villa Sofia

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed ourselves at the Villa, the weather in the 1st week was very hot and sunny but the second week from Tues onwards was a bit cooler ( but not much) and we could still sit outside even when it was raining. The Villa was very good, nice to have a well equipped kitchen, the towels were lovely! The bed was nice and large and comfy!

In short we had a great time and really loved the villa.

Our Stay in Casa Sofia

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Casa Sofia for four weeks. The accommodation and facilities fulfilled all our needs. We were very comfortable. The surrounding area of mountains in the Matesse National park was beautiful. We managed a two night trip to Rome on the train, a two hour journey from the nearby town of Telese , which was very enjoyable. We had also intended to go to the Amalfi coast but we enjoyed where we were so much that we didn't bother!

The owner, Louisa, couldn't have done more to help us from the first booking and throughout, even to arranging car hire and pick up from the railway station.First class customer service!

The area is very rural and the local people were friendly. There are two good restaurants within walking distance others in Faicchio, a five minute drive away A drive through the mountains is a must! Full of breathtaking views and medieval villages. If you like peaceful, rural settings with wonderful scenery and meeting friendly local people we would highly recommend Casa Sofia.

Villa Sofia

  • 4 of 5

Charming villa set in a beautiful setting. Well equipped property which slept 6 without a problem. The outdoor space is wonderful to sit and relax in, swing in the hammock under the trees to listen to the lizards scurry about beneath you. With it being about 50 minutes drive from Naples airport you may feel you need a car. We used the villa as a base for excursions out and used taxis for transportation, taxi drivers were very prompt and drove safely, it worked well for us. The local restaurant bent over backwards to accommodate us and both the food and service was excellent. I would definitely like to spend more time at this villa.

What a gorgeous little villa. Located in the mountains of Campania this villa is lovely. It has a large area for relaxation and dining. A swimming pool which kept us cool and the villa was so well equipped we didnt want for anything. We loved the area and there was so much see. We visited Monte Cassino, Benevento, Royal Palace at Caserta. Just lovely quaint places with lots of history. We loved the area and the villa and are already planning our next trip.

Great Villa - Great Location

  • 5 of 5

What a great villa! We loved staying at Casa Sofia. Its near Naples, Sorrento and Amalfi Coast but far enough away to enjoy parts of Italy we have never seen before. It is very well equipped with all you could ask for and it is set up for the English market. the little touches such as adapter plugs, hair dryer and english DVDs, CDs and Books were welcomed. Louisa the owner has really thoughts about the guests and provided what we needed.

The large area outside the villa was a godsend and the trees just lovely and cooling. the lady who met us was lovely and spoke excellent English. We loved the local restaurants and enjoyed exploring The Cave restaurant which is unique and great prices. We couldnt believe how good and how cheap the wine was.

We would recommend staying at Casa Sofia. The experience from booking to staying at the villa was a pleasure. From Louisa to the locals they were all so helpful and made us really feel at home. As villas in Italy go this was one of the best we have stayed in.

A wonderful villa near Amalfi

  • 5 of 5

We chose Casa Sofia because it was near the Amalfi Coast but not on the Amalfi Coast. We could visit all the tourist attractions but still come back to the tranquility of the villa. The description of the villa was very accurate. it is a beautifully furnished home and very well equipped. It had everything we needed from air conditioning to keep us cool to excellent bath facilities and a fully equipped kitchen. the villa was clean and well maintained. the peaceful surroundings allowed us to enjoy this wonderful villa in italy - the real Italy away from tourists. the gardens are gorgeous and we enjoyed looking for the wild rocket and asparagus!

Booking with Louisa was easy and stress free. Anna the lady who looks after the villa in italy speaks excellent English and is very helpful with tips on where to go and what to see. the local restaurant has beautiful views and is value for money. We visited some lovely historic sites and the trip to Matese was just breathtaking. the village itself is lovely with old cobbled streets, different shops from a bakery, local produce shops from cheese to hams. We also visited a local Buffalo farm where we brought Buffalo Mozzarella - just gorgeous.

We would definitely recommend Casa Sofia and have already discussed our next booking with Louisa.

From the Owner

We have always wanted to buy a property in Faicchio. It is close to our family and friends. When we drove up the private drive towards Villa Sofia we were just taken with its location. The house itself needed a major overhaul but we had imagination. It is just so peaceful staying at the house. It is quite, private and a wonderful place to stay. Faicchio has everything we could want. Supermarkets, bars, restaurants and the knowledge of knowing that Sofia-Clara and Katie are safe to play outside and enjoy nature. We can also pop into Naples, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast to enjoy the most beautiful tourist sites Italy has to offer. 2.5 hours away is Rome. So easy to get to and visit. For us it is an ideal location because it has everything. Authentic Italy and famous sites to visit.

From the Owner

What we lovely so much about Villa Sofia is its location. It is so private and peaceful we cant really put it into words. It has to be experienced. Waking up in the morning to the sound of birds is just so special. We love the fact that whilst it is off the beaten track we can still visit tourist sites easily. On top of that faicchio offers so much. Shops, bars, restaurants all selling local produce. When we say local produce we mean it. It is a very good price and excellent quality. When we want to go out and eat we have a lovely choice of two restaurants close by. Il Sauro restaurant with the most fantastic views of the monastery and Faicchio. It is set in vineyards and the food is wonderful. We recently had a meal there, two starters, four pizzas and wine for 37 euros. So cheap but wonderful. Such a relaxing place to enjoy a meal. La Luccila is lovely. The food is good and again resonably priced. If you are travelling with children you will find a small park area there for them to play. The villa itself is well equipped. Because when we visit I like to have everything around me especially in the kitchen. I have equipped Villa Sofia as if I was staying there all year round. It is our home and we offer the convenience of that to our guests. I want to make sure our guests enjoy their stay at our villa and I am more than happy to answer any questions and be as accommodating as I can. Please enjoy your time at Villa Sofia and all comments are welcomed.
