About Rachael

My name is Rachael, I am a primary school teacher who moved to Spain in 2002 with my young family to enjoy the warmer weather, a more "family friendly" community and a slower pace of life.

After having spent 10 wonderful years in The Jalon Valley, I have now returned to live and continue my teaching, in North Wales.

My partner, Mark, and I continue to use the villa as our main holiday destination, but also rent it out for others to enjoy.

Rachael purchased this villa in 2002

Why Rachael chose Alcalalí

Prior to buying the property we researched all areas of the Costa Blanca, but as soon as we drove into the Jalon Valley, we knew this was where we wanted to be: the beauty of the valley itself, the four small villages, the grape vines; almond, olive, orange and lemon groves and of course the welcoming local people. Fantastic weather all year round: the mountains are ideal for walking and are a cyclist's paradise, where many pro teams spend the winter training.

What makes this villa unique

The villa is easy to find and has plenty of parking, on and off road. It is a peaceful area which gives you a genuine taste of the real Spain. There are an abundance of excellent places to eat out, to suit every pocket and occasion. You can choose to stay in the valley, where you have everything you need for your stay within walking distance or make the short drive to visit the beaches, shopping centres and theme parks for extra entertainment. The villa has been set up with young teenagers in mind, with their own games room downstairs with direct access to the pool area, a pool table, table football and table tennis, PS3, board games, books etc, there is plenty to keep them occupied, while you relax by the pool.

Guestbook comments from the owner

(Summer 2014)

Rachel Lucas and Family: We have just returned from an amazing holiday at Jalon Valley Villa and would not hesitate to recommend the villa to anyone. There were just 5 of us so it was great that everyone had their own bathroom!

For us, the best thing about the villa is the location, as we hate resorts with a passion!

We were able to do all our food shopping at Lidl in Benissa at a fraction of what we would pay in the UK.

Another advantage to the location of the villa was that if we ate out locally (in Jalon) the prices were not tourist prices. For instance, at Cafe Aleluya a cocktail was 4.50, but in Moraira they were 7.95!

We also did a few day trips that we would highly recommend - Guadalest and Valencia. In addition, we visited Moraira where there is a lovely beach and small pretty town, and the water park at Benidorm (our 3 teenagers say it is the best water park they have every been to!)

In summary, I would defy anyone to not enjoy a holiday in this location, which is perfect for walking, cycling or just chilling. Far enough from the resorts to feel like real Spain, but close enough to civilisation for nothing to be too much of a problem.

(Summer 2012)

J.Ridley:Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.Games room was a massive advantage:my two nephews entertained themselves for hours!Everything was at hand, all rooms met our expectations & photos of the villa most certainly do it justice.Outdoor space was a massive plus:the two younger children enjoyed it & we barbecued every night.Fantastic surroundings & the views are spectacular:made our holiday.Could not fault it,would highly recommend it & most definitely will return.

Steve McCullough:Still talking about how much we enjoyed our holiday.Thank you for enabling us to have a great time with many fantastic memories.

Karen James:Such a relaxing time. The villa was perfect for us,as a family, with plenty of space & activities in the 'games room' & what a truly amazing view. We miss sitting having our breakfast on the 'naya' & having a few glasses of wine in the evening, as the sun went down! Your villa is in a beautiful location, somewhere we all agreed we would love to visit again.

A wonderful memorable stay at a fantastic villa.

  • 5 of 5

Rachael was fantastic in communication at every stage. This was our first Villa stay but it certainly won't be the last. The location was lovely, the Villa was very well set up for our family of 10 of all ages.

The pool was a big hit and the kids loved the games room and spent every night playing with games from the games chest.

We enjoyed the beautiful mountain views and had a wonderful relaxing stay.

If you want a spacious Villa with lots to do without going out, then this is geared up for exactly that!

I'll hopefully be returning very soon!

A fabulous villa in an ideal location

  • 5 of 5

This lovely villa is in an ideal location for exploring the North Costa Blanca. It is in a quiet development but close to restaurants & shops (supermarket only 3k away) it's a rural location so a car is a must. If you're a wine drinker then a visit to the local bodega's in Xalo should be on your list of "to do's". Fresh fruit from the road side stalls is very reasonable. If you like shopping then the market in Xalo on a Saturday morning must not be missed. This area is very popular with cyclists - something to be aware of when out driving.

The villa itself had plenty room for the 10 of us with our children ranging from 9yrs to 19yrs. It has everything you need to cook a full meal to a snack, the BBQ was popular with us. The pool is a great size especially when we wanted to play volley ball etc. The games room had plenty to keep the younger ones amused if they wanted out of the sun although we didn't use the PS3 as there was no need - the pool table & football gave them endless competition with each other. There is cool boxes & cool packs if you want to take drinks or a picnic with you & good quality pool towels are provided. I couldn't think of anything we needed that wasn't provided. We had a great 2 weeks here & look forward to returning again in the future.

We loved every minute of our stay in this beautiful villa . had everything we needed. Kitchen was well equipped with everything you could possibly want . and the pool ....we loved it !

location - fabulous . we went out every day to different places denia, moraira, albir, altea, benidorm etc so the villa was ideally placed for plenty of site-seeing . Go to castellvi restaurant in Alcalali -- amazing ! and also little bar in jalon called lluna llunera ..very nice tapas.

also if you want a really good steak go to el sacristan in albir ( just off the front near to the campsite) if you want a giggle go to benidorm !

all in all we had an amazing week- thanks !!

Great family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 8, including 3 years old grandson Ben, stayed in the villa for 8 days at the end of October and everybody had a great time. The villa is in a good location, easy to reach with shops and restaurants within walking distance (or short drive). The villa itself has lots of space with and attractive "upside down" layout, i.e. kitchen, living room and two bedrooms on the upper storey. The naya (veranda) is accessed from the living room and overlooks the mountains, a beautiful spot to sit and have breakfast in the sunshine. The pool is great and was warm enough even at the end of October. The Jalon Valley and surrounding area is truely spectacular. We enjoyed some good walking days and the climbers in the family had some great days on the crags, some of which are within walking distance of the villa. There was also some interesting bouldering on the beech at Denia. There are some beautiful villages in the area with some excellent restaurants both large and small, "touristy" and local. All in all the whole family enjoyed a great holiday in an area, which none of us had visited before. I suspect that we shall return!!

Perfectly Quiet, Convenient & Comfortable

  • 4 of 5

We stayed as family of 5 with three young adult children. Villa is as advertised and development was really quiet when stayed. Very pleasant views from the Naya and lovely spacious pool. Although only 20 minutes drive from the coast ( Denia) the atmosphere in the picturesque Jalon valley is a world away. Good local restaurants. Rental car necessary to enjoy properly. Recommended.

Perfect holiday

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from this fabulous villa thats in a lovely quiet location. There was 13 of us ages ranging from 7 to 60 something and all agree that we had a great time. The pool area and views are just great and at night the younger members of our party refused to come out of the pool. We would recommend the local restauants and the ones in Jalon all have good food, wine and prices. The surrounding hills and views stunning. Recomend a visit to Denia, Calpe and Moraira market and Guadalest is a must, all together a lovely villa everything you need and in a perfect location Will definately go again. Thank you

Car: necessary

The Costa Blanca is renowned for its white, sandy, blue flag beaches and several can be reached within 20/25 minutes drive: Denia, Javea, Moraira and Calpe are some of the best. There are also many small coves dotted up the coast line to discover.

Car hire is essential as the villa is 1hr from both Valencia and Alicante Airports.

Local shops, restaurants and bars are a 5/10min walk away in Alcalali. Jalon is 5km away with its bodegas and a further selection of shops, restaurants, bars and supermarkets. Banks with ATMs are to be found in both Alcalali and Jalon.

Further Details:

The Jalon Valley is famous for its wine making and the bodegas are only a few minutes by car, in Jalon, for wine tasting. The local wines are delicious and cheap. There is always plenty to do and see nearby: Terra Mitica Theme Park, Aqualandia Water Park and Terra Natura Wild Life Park in Benidorm; the historic Moorish town of Guadalest; the famous Algar water pools and waterfalls, the Valor chocolate factory in Villajoyosa or honey tasting in Callosa. The whole area also offers endless possibilities for wonderful drives, walks or bike rides on the coast or in the mountains.

With fantastic weather also from September through to May, the villa is ideal for:

Climbers - there are over 200 routes in the immediate area at 8 different crags

Walkers - there are numerous walks of varying difficulty

Cyclists - many pro teams base themselves in the area for winter training
