Welcome to La Flotte, a tastefully restored 18th century period manor house with four gites set amongst 16 acres of private grounds and parkland. See our website www.laflottefrance.com with video. We are in the heart of the micro climate of the Charente Maritime with 2,700 hours of sunshine a year and surrounded by vineyards and sunflowers. At La Flotte you will find four very well equipped gites to choose from, each with individual charm and character with just the right balance between French traditional style and the modern creature comforts you’d expect at home. In the sitting rooms, these include LCD TV with UK Freeview, DVD player and hi-fi. Internet connectivity in all cottages now available. All four gites have recently been re-furnished to the highest standards including new sofas and soft furnishings. There are new beds and furniture throughout. A new covered outdoor relaxation area with plenty of comfy sofas, overlooking the pool, was built recently.
We purchased La Flotte from the previous owners in March 2010. Since then, we have carefully restored each of our four gites to ensure they retain their style and character, yet upgrade them to the levels expected by discerning guests. Refurbishment, especially to the parkland and gardens is continuing again this year ready for the new season.
Tim has a background in the hospitality industry and Amanda has worked in banking and private catering. We have two children, Eleanor 11 and Lisbeth 9, who attend a local French school.
We live in the manor house at La Flotte throughout the year, so close at hand to answer any questions during your stay or book activities for you locally, if needed. Amanda's French is very good!
Tim & Amanda Walsh purchased this house in 2010
We have been holidaying in the area around Royan, Mortagne and further south for several years and in 2009 stayed in Le Petit Manoir, the three bedroom gite at La Flotte. We had a wonderful time.
We had been looking for a gites business to buy for some years, but never seen anywhere in the area with the right balance between French period style, characterful, well equipped gites and ideal location. Our holiday at La Flotte changed all that.
Cutting a long story short, our offer to buy La Flotte was accepted. We were the proud owners of a property and estate built in 1730 which fitted the bill in all every respect. We hope you'll share the joy with us!
La Flotte is situated less than a mile from the pretty harbour village of Mortagne-sur-Gironde.
Our four gites are all located in the grounds of La Flotte which covers a total of 16 acres, including six acres of immediate private parkland. Whether you are sitting by the pool or in any of the gite gardens, you can imagine the beauty and tranquility that greets you as you gaze over the surrounding countryside towards the lake and further beyond to the Atlantic.
A drive down to the local Boulangerie for fresh bread - unless you prefer our breakfast baskets - takes about five minutes. The harbour and quayside cafes take a couple of minutes longer. A selection of lovely beaches are easily reachable, our favourite is just 20 mins away.
We knew from their fantastic website that this was going to be a special place and it certainly did not disappoint. Very clean loved the bathroom and especially the bed and bedding very luxurious. It was lovely to wander around the extensive grounds and also to sit by the pool. The welcome was warm and continued throughout our stay. Would not hesitate to return!
We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom properties, lovely outside space and a beautiful pool. The furnishings and the quality of beds....all fantastic! My children thoroughly enjoyed the holiday as did we.
Wish we had come here years ago. Great location amongst the vineyards and sunflower fields. Went off to various beaches up the coast - great surfing, sailing and relaxing! Pool at La Flotte was a joy to return to at the end of the day and greatly enjoyed re-acquainting myself with a proper charcoal BBQ. Amanda is the real jewel in the crown - we were instantly made to feel very welcome.

We recently returned from a wonderful holiday at La Flotte Le Petit Manoir. The rustic charm of the accommodation with all mod cons was just perfect. We travelled with a 3 and 5 year old and to arrive and find we had CBeebies available was great! However, we barely watched the TV there was so much to do. Le Petit Manoir was a lovely house. Beds incredibly comfortable with nice fresh white linen, excellent kitchen and bathroom facilities. The pool was clean and the sun loungers very comfy, close enough to play area so you could keep an eye on the kids. The communal area "Le Salon" was great for socialising with our fellow guests. Amanda and Tim's honesty fridge filled with delicious wine was a bonus. : ) There are lovely beaches close by and little towns to visit. Tim and Amanda who own La Flotte were very welcoming and helpful. They are very knowledgeable of the local area and are available if you need them. Amanda was so kind, after mentioning that one of our girls had a birthday she offered to bake a cake for her. It was delicious!! We did a lot of driving during our holiday and visited lots of different places but it was always nice to drive back through the gates to La Flotte at the end of the day. We really enjoyed our holiday and if we decided to go to the same area of France again we will definitely stay at La Flotte without hesitation.
We had a lovely week staying in an old french house in the Charente Maritime region of France, the Petit Manoir. The house has the peaceful ambience of an old house, with oak floors, high ceilings, shutters on the windows and huge doors. However it has been decorated and furnished tastefully inside with good quality furniture and provided with every facility that a family could need. The beds were lovely and we all slept like tops. Our party ranged in age from 7 months to 77 years and all had a really good time. We self catered and ate out in equal measure. The kitchen had everything needed to satisfy the most demanding chef. The grounds around the Petit Manoir are part of a beautiful range of rolling hills, with a lake at the bottom of the valley and the Gironde estuary close by. The boulangerie was just a 3 minutes drive to get those croissantes and baguettes for breakfast. There is plenty to do close by to suit all tastes ; walking, cycling, sightseeing, beaches, eating , drinking ( Cognac is a short trip away) and then to round off the hot day, a good swim in the large pool. The tranquility is broken only by the countryside sounds of larks singing, pigeons cooing and blackbirds calling, and bliss; no cockerel or donkeys at 5 in the morning!
We found it the perfect blend of peace and activity. The first day we just sat around, orientated ourselves and relaxed. Thereafter we went further afield, but in a week could only scratch the surface of all the places to visit ansd see.
The hosts, Amanda and Tim, are most welcoming, kind and helpful, without being intrusive, and were available if you need to ask them something. Amandas french is almost that of a native should you need communications assistance with bookings. They have a supply of good, tastey local wines to save you carting bottles back from the supermarket, They really want you to enjoy your stay, providing suggestions of places to see in a handy welcome briefing pack.
Whether you are one person looking for solitude and peace, a couple looking to relax, or a family wanting a good holiday, I wholeheartedly reccommend the Petit Manoir to you without reservation. We had a wonderful time and would love to return.
