About this property

detached Village House near historic spa town, own pool, WiFi, 40 mins from beach

Four storey late 19th century village stone house over c.400 sq.m, five double bedrooms, three bathrooms/wc. Fully restored with white-washed walls, original terracotta floors and exposed chestnut beams. Large courtyards and terraces. Lots of space for outdoor eating and chilling. Thick stone walls mean it’s cool in the height of summer and toasty once the gas central heating fires up. The village is a typical Italian hillside community, mostly quiet, but also passing goatherds, boar & bird shooting, farming as well as the usual hubbub of Italian village life. It’s also a very safe and welcoming environment and our guests don’t feel they have to be too precious, (especially good if you have younger kids), and great, if like us, you love your music! After nightfall the village is totally silent, devoid of light pollution so ideal for star-gazing and chasing fire-flies.

Tranquil, beautiful & very comfortable.
The house provided us with the perfect base for our family holiday in Tuscany. It is incredibly well equipped, especially the kitchen, so we thoroughly enjoyed living there for a week with our children & 2 small grandchildren. The surrounding area is incredibly beautiful & we enjoyed lovely walks through the blossoming woods behind the house. The advice provided by the owner Peter before our holiday was tremendously useful & his recommendation to enjoy a meal made by a local chef was much appreciated. Last, but not least, the cd collection at the house is brilliant - hours of enjoyment.

Tuscan Family Holiday
11 of us ranging in age from 5 to 65 had the most fabulous holiday in this beautiful, relaxing place. The villa is truly rustic with a warm and comfortable feel to it, so well equipped and part of a lovely local community in the Tuscan hills. Days were spent relaxing round the pool, walking through the woods or driving into Bagni for a mooch about the local shops and a spot of lunch. Evenings were a feast of local goods cooked on the bbq and accompanied by glorious wine and late night swims or card games. A birthday was celebrated in style at one of the local restaurants one evening, day trips by train to Pisa and Lucca were easy even with the youngest traveller. Weather was great, odd thunder storms in the afternoons that only lasted an hour or so, then back to the sun. We were so sad to leave this wonderful place, think there will be a return visit in a few years time......

Beautiful rustic house surrounded by impressive nature – very relaxing
Peter is a very open and supportive host. He solved every problem we had immediately. Thank you Peter. We had a wonderful relaxing and adventurous stay at Peter's house. The whole village and Peter's house has a lot of charme. You can feel all the history. And the nature around is very impressive. We spent a lot of time at the house, the woods, and the places around because there is a lot to discover. We also enjoyed the fresh breeze coming from the woods. Especially for the kids and our dog it was enough to enjoy:) We can also recommend the markets with fresh food from the region for a good price. Better than the supermarkets! The house is perfect for people who enjoy a rustic lifestyle and are happy to wake up with the rooster.

Fabulous house in fantastic location
Booked this as a family of seven plus small child and we just loved it.Wanted to be a part of true Italian style village life up in the mountains(despite the regular trips up and down the mountainside to town on the edge of my seat!)Nothing to disappoint here, even though the weather turned for us!We sat out every night late into the evening and even had a dip or two in the pool which was a trifle fresh owing to the cooler weather!Loved preparing the evening dinner in the spacious fully equipped kitchen, somehow not a chore there. As soon as we hit uk we were already missing the house, the village and Tuscany!Got to go back next year.

Great
We had a fabulous holiday here. Absolutely beautiful grounds and views. A rustic old house, but has everything you need. This house is a great base to go and explore from, set about 500meters above sea level in the mountains. The village is perfect and a great small store that sells all the essentials. 20mins down the mountain Is lovely Bagni di Lucca with larger supermarkets. The pool was a nice size not huge but perfect for the 6 of us. A great BBQ area and hammock in the shade. The patio area outside the kitchen is newly done and was wonderful to sit out there for every meal, most nights we sat out and played games in candle light. A few doors away is s great English couple called Shirley and Roy who run a B&B. If you have any questions they can help. Shirley also does massages, facials etc they a good! Roy is a brilliant chef for a price per person £25-30 he will do a 2 course meal for your party. We did it and the food was outstanding it's a must we loved it.

Professional couple with two grown up daughters and faithful hound, based just outside London in the UK. Globally well-travelled, especially across Europe, been holidaying (and working) in Italy for three decades. The owners use the house year-round outside guest rental periods. Eldest daughter held her wedding reception over two days at the house.

Why they chose this property

We spent ten years looking all over Italy and eventually found and fell in love with this beautiful, unspoilt corner of Tuscany. Hot, but not too hot, real scenery, lovely people, loads to see and do, great little hilltop towns, high, interesting and green countryside, skiing nearby….
Lots of Content and a variety of things to do for all the family and mixed groups:
1.Long al fresco lunches in the courtyard
2.Swimming in the pool then sunbathing all day on the decking
3.The evening passagiata through the village squares and lanes (especially if it’s just rained! – very ‘Name of the Rose’)
4.A long day out in Firenze, with shopping at the Barberino outlet mall.
5.The Sunday antiques market in Lucca.
6.Touring through the nearby Garfagnana valley.
7.Barga for dinner, followed by passagiata and gelati!

What makes this property unique

Some more of our favourite things...
8.A beach day at Viareggio, with a seafood lunch in a beach cafe.
9.Going to Lucca out of season for some retail therapy and dinner.
10.Skiing at Abetone, just for the day or stopping over in a friendly family hotel with a gourmet dinner
11.Long day out in the Cinque Terre, swimming, sunbathing and lunching: our favourite fishing village is Vernazza.
12.August Festival in Gombereto – La Festa Medievale: flag-throwers, food stalls, processions and fireworks. Mad!
13. Touring Il Strada del Vino – the Lucchese hills wine route –sampling Montecarlo whites and reds and sumptuous olive oils
14.Morning and evening walks up to the shop, then back round the roads, enjoying the views; about 30 minutes, perfect before dinner!
15.Chillin' with a cold one on the deck watching the sun set over the hills..
