About the property

Stunning 8 beds/3 bathrooms Stockholm Archipelago (Roslagen), Sweden - Peaceful Beautiful Location 25 Metres From Sea, Large Sunny Garden, Forest, Small Nearby Beaches

A beautiful and exceptionally spacious and well equipped much loved house owned by same family for 40 years, now ready to be shared! Located on a sea plot in the heart of unique Stockholm archipelago with 30.000 islands/skerries, the house is situated in an 'area of outstanding natural beauty' yet only 1 hour from Arlanda airport and Stockholm. A car is desirable but public transport from Stockholm is good. Frequent cheap buses run from a free parking area outside Norrtalje to Stockholm: an easy way to visit the beautiful capital for the day.

Charming seaside village (Furusund) 5 km with small shop/restaurant/cafe/boat trips and Norrtalje historic seaside town 20 mins away with superb shopping/restaurants/culture/golf courses/big swimming pool complex/excellent hospital etc. Lots of art and museums. There are many lovely traditional and modern Fantastic shops and supermarkets and Swedish alcohol shop.

Nearby medieval town of Uppsala, Viking village and many places of interest.

The house is situated on a calm and exclusive island without the need for ferries or boats to get there at the end of a small, private road. Access to the island was made possible by the small bridge my father, a civil engineer, built when the area was first developed 50 years ago.

The all-seasons house sleeping 8 was designed by a well known local architect, built to a high specification on 2 floors with panoramic windows/views across the Baltic sea and islands, with guest house and unique wood fired sauna with a window overlooking the sea, and 2 large bathrooms/3 WCs, spacious outdoor seating areas including large oak table and benches set in garden and very large lawn with 2 BBQs. There are 3 separate covered verandas including a large covered outdoor room next to the kitchen with spectacular views and sunsets! Ideally suited to 3 generations of family, or up to 8 people with both indoor and outdoor eating and living spaces yet plenty of room to have private moments!

The kitchen is very well equipped (new ceramic hob electric cooker/micro/large fridge etc) A large freezer, new washing machine and tumble drier are situated in separate utility room in basement. 2 separate living areas on both floors with TV (and vast selection of DVDs) and a wood burning fire in cozy basement area.

There are 3 bedrooms in the large house: 1 double bed; 1 adult size solid bunk bed; 1 double bed and 1 single in basement area with 2 windows/venetian blinds.

There are 2 single (or as one double) beds in the guest house bedroom with panoramic windows/Venetian blinds and own veranda overlooking the sea. Next door a large washroom/shower/WC room adjoining the separate sauna.

Towels and bedding are supplied.

There is very good mobile signal coverage at the house and Sweden has free WiFi in most public places.

Sweden is very 'green' and ecologically minded. We are careful to recycle as much as possible and provide separate containers for this. The island is self-sufficient for water and not on mains provision. We installed our own new private 'state of the art' sewage system in common with all other residents and up to date radiators/heating.

The house is very secluded, quiet and peaceful with its own large recently refurbished private jetty/deck and swimming and diving, and use of a rowing boat (and life jackets!) to explore other islands. Many visitors have caught lovely fish (pike/perch etc) from the jetty - using our fishing rods you can fish anywhere.

There is easy access (2 mins walk and 10 mins walk) to 2 small shallow sandy beaches which are ideal for small children. Within easy walking distance we are surrounded by lovely uninhabited forests where you often spot wild deer and a vast variety of bird life (including a pair of sea eagles!). In summer we pick wild bilberries and raspberries and wild strawberries grow in abundance along the little lane. The forest paths are magical, set on a large uninhabited peninsula across from the house and ideal for walks for all age groups and ideal for jogging - and in winter, for cross country skiing. - The house has several bicycles for use by visitors. A whole room in the basement is dedicated to a full size table tennis table, as well as some training equipment. There is a boules set (and a professional boules court for general use on the island). The residents have also created a grassed recreation area.

This is a well established island with beautiful houses which are rarely sold but passed on to families. Neighbours are pleasant and considerate value the unique setting and peacefulness of the area. Everyone speaks excellent English!

We are fortunate to have an excellent and skilled caretaker and his family who look after the house and welcome guests and are 5 minutes away if needed for any assistance or advice.

About Eva Smith

My parents designed and built this house in 1971. It is a much loved place in one of the most beautiful parts of Sweden: Stockholm Archipelago - unique with its 30.000 islands and skerries, yet only an hour away from Stockholm and airport. I and my family return there from our permanent residence in England several times a year and greatly benefit from the peace and tranquility found there: in contrast from densely populated and busy lives in the UK.

We are now ready to let others share in this unique experience!

Eva Smith purchased this house in 1970

Beautifully furnished house great views

  • 5 of 5

This a beautifully furnished architect designed house, warm and with every home comfort including (naturally for Sweden) a sauna. Fabulous views across the Baltic and the most amazing sunset we have ever seen. Half hour drive to Nortellje where you can get a bus to take you to Stockholm for the day. Highly recommended for a short or long break.

Idyllic hideaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this incredible place for one week and had a wonderful time.

The house was immaculate, comfortable and incredibly relaxing. Set on the Baltic in the midst of a pine forest, days were spent walking, lazily dozing in the sunshine or paddling about in the row boat. Evenings started with dusk herring fishing and generally finished with full bellies after prolonged and delicious meals against the backdrop of the Baltic.

The sauna was divine and we even braved a sea dip.

We managed tear ourselves away for a day trip to Stockholm - parking is expensive but it was really easy to drive to from the house. Equally the airport drive was super simple.

I can't recommend this house enough if you want to get away from it all and fancy full relaxation.

Idyllic midsummer stay

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't believe our luck when the skies were pperfect blue for every single day of our trip - with the huge expanse of lawn outside the house we were able to play around with our children and friends throughout the week. Endless drinks and fishing from the jetty, forest walks, bike rides beyond perfection on smooth undulating roads, delicious dinners overlooking the sun speckled Baltic sea, games of ping pong and badmington before heating up in the delicious wood fired sauns [again - overlooking the sea of course!] & refreshing plunges afterwards. The house is incredibly comfortable - we were a large group of nine - and never seemed to get in each other's way. Lovely beds, fully equipped kitchen - the list goes on! We just can't wait to go back. Thanks for the stay :)

lovely swedish house in peaceful setting

  • 5 of 5

My family had a wonderful week in this beautifully situated house. Weather perfect and we only strayed away from the house twice to get provisions! Ages

ranged from 7 years to 71 years and we all had a great time just fishing walking rowing in the boat provided picking blueberries and generally enjoying the Swedish lifestyle. The sauna was wonderful and we all enjoyed swimming after to cool down. All in all a really great experience which we hope to repeat some time

Enjoyed a very relaxing and fun filled week with our family at this beautiful property. Lots of time spent swimming, fishing, hiking and collecting blueberries. The house and grounds are very well maintained and have everything we needed to enjoy our time on the Archepeligo.

Fantastic Relaxing Break

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful relaxing holiday at the house. We loved the log fired sauna especially, followed by refreshing dips in the Baltic. The veranda was the perfect location for all our meals. We made use of the house's rowing boat to explore nearby islands, and the indoor table tennis table saw a lot of use. We were lucky enough to see and photograph the white tailed sea eagles as well as red squirrels and other wildlife. The owner has put a lot of thought into what guests will need, so there are fishing rods, life jackets, board games, playing cards, books, tourist information, guides to supermarkets etc all available. The communications with the owner (Eva) and the local helper (Tomas) were both excellent. The suggested restaurants all lived up to expectations. Although there were 5 of us the property would easily have accommodated another 3-4 people without too much trouble.
