About Ray Cooper (Owner)

Living in the South East of England, Wildwood is our gateway to the great outdoors and adventure. It's where we enjoy many activities like biking, hiking, kayaking, walking and exploring. It's our bolt hole to get away from the every day stresses of life. Over the years we have made many friends in the area and enjoy our regular trips to the fantastic Scottish Highlands and all it has to offer.

Ray Cooper (Owner) purchased this house in 2007

Why Ray Cooper (Owner) chose Scottish Highlands & Islands

Fort Augustus is the epicentre of the Scottish Highlands.

Wildwood is situated in the heart of the Inchnacardoch Forest and is a home away from the bustle of everyday modern life - even after just one week you will feel refreshed and have a new vigor to resume your normal life back home. Wildwood will hopefully give you a small snapshot of a time long ago where families and couples can enjoy each others company even in this fast paced world which we now reside. Take time to enjoy the remoteness of the forest walks, to smell the trees, listen to the birds, see the deer and enjoy proper conversation with loved ones. Have a great holiday!

What makes this house unique

Wildwood gives you the opportunity to stay in a relatively remote Scandanavian Log House with all the modern trimmings to make your holiday that much more enjoyable, but never to far from civilisation which allow's you to benefit from all that Fort Augustus has to offer!

The views of the forest, the birds, deer and our resident Pine Martins compliment Wildwood

Close your eyes and picture this luxury log house in it's forest setting - TRANQUILLITY!!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

16th - 19th September 09 - Excellent few days in this wonderful Log House. The house has everything you could need and the level of specification and attention to detail was superb. Marie, the friendly housekeeper does an outstanding job in keeping the place clean and presentable for all guests, with fresh linen on all the beds, fluffy towels and a welcome pack of milk, shortbread and tea - very welcome after a long journey! Although this is a dog friendly log house you couldn’t tell that dogs had previously been there, which is nice for guests with aversions to dogs - not us with Bracken who bounds through the forest without a care in the world. Excellent walks from the back door (situated 2 miles in the forest) but never to far from Fort Augustus and Loch Ness. Superb setting for all sorts of adventures whether walking, cycling, kayaking or shopping in Inverness!

Will definitely be back again.

Beautiful, secluded and well furnished

  • 5 of 5

A group of friends and I stayed here for 7 nights in August. The house is located 5 minutes drive from Fort Augustus and this can be walked in around 25 minutes.

There are a number of great forest walks around the house with varying lengths and difficulties (can also be good for mountain biking). The house is in the middle of the forest so there is no requirement to walk along any roads to get to the walks. There is a lot of wildlife, with frogs, birds, pine martins and badgers in the area (put out some jam at night and you might see some of the rarer creatures).

The lodge is located very near to a number of adventure activities centres where you can do canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting and quad biking. You can also explore waterfalls, the Fort Augustus Canal Lock and the famous Urquhart Castle.

The lodge itself is very well laid out with a good sized kitchen, dining table and living room. There were 9 of us in the house at one point and we never felt too cramped. There are 6 beds provided but there is plenty of space for airbeds and the sofas are very comfortable!

The lodge is kitted out with board games and TV and although there was no wifi or phone reception, there was always something for us to do.

All in all a very good trip and I would like to return in the future.
