Old Coastguard Cottage in Peveril Point, Swanage, Dorset - Stunning Location On The Beautiful Jurassic Coast

NB The Lifeboat Station next to the cottages is being rebuilt this year and so there may be some construction noise . Old Coastguard Cottages are located next to the lifeboat slip on the eastern tip of Swanage Bay known as Peveril Point. Although only a short stroll into town the Point provides a haven of peace and tranquility even in the busy Summer months. No 4 is full of charm and character and has 3 bedrooms that can accommodate 4 adults and 2 children comfortably. Downstairs there is a small kitchen/dining room and a cosy living room with sea views. One well-behaved dog welcome - not upstairs please. Non smoking. Gas central heating. WiFi. Parking permit for the rear of the cottages. Please check availability before emailing me - thank-you.

"We had an absolutely brilliant time in Swanage! None of us had been before, and we thought it was fab; the kids had a whale of a time with buckets, spades and fishing nets. We were all extremely sad to leave, I have to say! The cottage is excellent, and my 5 year old son is totally in love with the Lifeboat Station next door, he was permanently pottering over to inspect the posters and charts outside. Suffice to say - We'll Be Back!"



"We had a lovely time; long walks on the coast path, sitting with a coffee or wine outside on the benches and a daily run out to the Lighthouse and back was all very relaxing.It is a fantastic location!"

Great views, fabulous location

This delightful cottage has a great view, particularly from the lounge and master bedroom. A short distance from the beach, shops, restaurants and there are also a couple of decent supermarkets close by. A newly fitted kitchen with all mod cons and plenty of room for up to six guests. We also rented the annex for a couple nights for my in laws which was clean and well maintained. Would definitely recommend the (blue) fish & chip shop and the Old Brick Pizza if you don't fancy cooking. All in all we had a lovely stay and are looking forward to returning.

Lovely cottage by the sea

The cottage is in an excellent location a few minutes walk from town. The sea is literally a few yards from the front door. Everything was explained well in the the emails. We liked the quirkiness.

The kitchen suited us, it had a good oven and grill, for heating meals and making cheese on toast.

We particularly liked the main bedroom, with its sea view, and welcome breeze and wave sounds at night. There is a front patio area with seats, where it was easy to pass the morning drinking tea and coffee and reading, and watching the view, especially the regular lifeboat launches, which were exciting drama. The lifeboat station is nearby, and they encourage visits.

Other local things to see.

Durlaston Castle is a short drive or bus ride away.

Swanage Steam Railway will take you to Corfe Castle and a mining museum, and plenty to do at other stops.

Drive or take bus to Sandbanks and visit Brownsea island and Bournemouth.

Plenty of National Trust open spaces like Studland nearby.

Lots are varied eateries in Swanage, whether it be Curry, Pizza, English or Italian, and many excellent pubs, serving the local beer called Piddle.

There is good shopping and history in Swanage, and two decent supermarkets, plenty of cafes and antique shops.

Overall we really enjoyed ourselves and are looking forward to visiting Swanage again.

Lovely little cottage

We had a lovely time in Swanage! The children enjoyed themselves crab fishing, and puttering around in the row boat. We had lovely walks with our dog on the coastal path hills behind the cottage and great walks to Swanage exploring the seafront and the town (a very short walk away). The Lifeboat Station next door was fascinating, and we were lucky to watch them go out for a rescue operation (a minor one).

The location is great - it was quiet at night and we had great sleeps. I only gave 4 stars as the cottage, being very quaint, doesn't have a lot of amenities. There was no microwave or toaster, and the fridge is a tiny one that does not hold a lot, especially for a family of 5. There was only one bathroom, which proved difficult at times, and the shower attachment just allows you to rinse off, not have a proper shower. Also we brought our own bed sheets, as I felt that charging £60 for linen hire was not acceptable - it should be included in the price of the hire.

Saying all that, we did have a great time. Thank you.

We have owned the Cottage for over fifteen years but my husbands family have always had a property on the Point - Granny has been swimming here since she was 4 and her teenage grandchildren still rate Swanage as their favorite holiday. The location is simply unbeatable - right on the beautiful Jurassic Coast, views from the seafront garden across the bay to Old Harry's Rock and the stunning coastal path behind, leading to Durlstan Bay, Dancing Ledge and beyond. Five minutes walk along the seafront takes you to town - but Peveril Point is an oasis of tranquility, even in the height of Summer.

Coast/Beach:

Directly in front of the cottage is a stoney foreshore with a small jetty, ideal for crabbing, and a boat slipway. The sailing club has a small sandy beach - 5 mins walk, Swanage main beach, also sandy, 10 minutes walk and Studland National Trust beach a 10 minute drive.

Travel:

Swanage is located on the Isle of Purbeck, approx 2.5 hours drive from London.

Distances:

Swanage town is approx 1/4 mile away. Corfe Castle approx 5 miles,

Studland approx 5 miles.

Wareham approx 10 miles

Bournmouth approx 8 miles across chain ferry to Poole.

Further Details:

Swanage has great shopping with a wide range of boutiques,gift shops, art galleries, restaurants and pubs. There are also two supermarkets, banks and a post office. Chococo chocolate factory is hugely popular with the kids as are the various ice cream parlours and fish and chip shops. Swanage Steam Railway operates daily between Swanage and Corfe Castle. Pleasure cruises to Brownsea Island and Bournmouth depart from the Victorian Pier. Diving and Waterskiing are also available for Pierhead Watersports.Tennis Courts and a Pitch and Putt Course are located just behind the main beach. Walkers will enjoy fabulous coastal walks in both directions , over Ballard Down to Old Harry's Rocks or along Durlstan Bay to Dancing Ledge and beyond. From the Owner

If the weather is fine there is no place better than the cottage garden, but if you want a sandy beach, stroll along the front 5 mins to the sailing club beach or 10mins to Swanage beach. A 10 minute drive will take you to the National Trust beaches at Studland. A row boat, Sea Kayak and life jackets are kept in the garden or on the slip infront of the cottage and are free to use at your own risk. Similarly if you wanted to bring your own small dinghy - laser or topper size, you could keep it directly infront of the cottage on our slipway. Swimming and Fishing can also be done directly infront of the cottage.

  • Notes on accommodation: The cottage is in the middle of a terrace and we have great relations with the neighbors on both sides. The cottage is not suitable for large loud groups or single sex parties. We would ask guests to be respectful of this , especially if the cottages on either side are in use. Thanks. Outside: The front garden faces directly onto the sea and has two wooden benches. There is a free standing barbecue and trunk containing lifejackets, buckets and spades etc. There is a small row boat and a sea Kayak available to use at you own risk. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen, excluding towels, can be provided for an additional £60 per week. Unless ordered the cottage is supplied with uncovered duvets and pillows only and guests must bring their own linen and towels. The cottage is cleaned on changeover day. Other: There is a separate guest annex behind the cottage that has a double bed, bunk beds and a shower.wc, This is be available on request at £60 extra a night. We would only recommend this for the one or two nights as the cottage is not designed for 10.
