About Mark

I am a keen traveller and lived in Europe for many years and felt that holiday rental properties particularly in Austria and Switzerland were of a far superior standard to the "general" standard available in Scotland.

We bought Strathlachlan lodge in 2008 and spent a year doing extensive renovation and refurbishment with every aspect of the property being upgraded.

Mark purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Mark chose Scotland

The original part of the Lodge (which takes in the snug and main bedroom) is over 300 years old and the original property was called "Portindrain" and was one of the very first recorded properties to be built in Starthlachlan....in the attic the original chimney is still visible. We wanted to have a property which was in a tranquil setting with great open outlooks but still close to local amenities.....I bought the property from a friend after visiting for an evening I said that I loved the place and if he ever wanted to sell .....1year later he did !

What makes this cottage unique

Within a short time after arrival you will start to unwind and relax and as the days pass and you sleep well in a silent dark atmosphere with clean air a real sense of well being and rest fullness will restore your mood energy levels and optimism and a stay at the Lodge really is so uplifting.

Old Castle Lachlanis situated south of Strachur sits the romantic 15th century ruin of Old Castle Lachlan, reached by an unspoilt coastal walk. Rugged, inspiring, peaceful, historical; the perfect place to marvel the beauty of this perfect corner of Scotland and take home a little of that tranquillity

The present house at Ardkinglas was completed in the autumn of 1907 and is generally considered to be the architect Sir Robert Lorimer's masterpiece. It was built at a time when traditional materials were skilfully and creatively mastered by expert craftsmen but where a wealth of new technology could be incorporated into the design.

Coast/Beach:

The Waverleyis the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world and offers various excursions in the summer months from Dunoon, a truly once in a lifetime opportunity to travel back in time and marvel at the beauty of both the ship and the scenery.

Travel:

Loch Goil Cruisers are 20 minutes away where you can hire motor boats. A fantastic way to explore the loch, catch that mighty fish, do some wildlife spotting or just relax on the tranquil water on a warm sunny afternoon. Carrick Castle is just 5 miles down the loch and although it is not open to the public provides a grand backdrop for a picnic.

Further Details:

Fantastic fishing can be enjoyed in Argyll. Whether it’s for Mackeral from the pier in front of the hotel (sea rods can be borrowed from the hotel and fishing on the sea loch is free) or for the more ambitious, Dunoon and District Angling Club are the ideal contact to help organise your day fishing.

Some fantastic shore and boat diving can be found on Loch Fyne. The underwater reefs are the natural habitat for a wide and diverse selection of sea life.

Walking in and around Strachur is plentiful, with The Cowal Way, Glenbranter Forest and Puck’s Glen to name but a few. More local to home we have Strachur House and Flower Gardens.A wee walk along the shore, where every stone’s a skimmer, can be shared with Oyster catchers, Herons and Cormorants, and glancing out to sea you may notice Porpoises and Seals.

If you prefer your adventures to be on dry land, why not try a thrilling quad-bike ride with Quadmainia? In addition to taking the quad-bike on the trail, Quadmania can organise other adventures to complete your day. You can go kayaking on secluded lochs, exploring ancient gorges, clay-shooting, abseiling or rock climbing - whatever your fancy. You can even combine your quadbiking with some River Rocketing! Quadmania will organise your dream day in the stunning scenery of Argyll in Scotland.
