Beautiful Cottage In Morston, 1 Mile From Blakeney On The North Norfolk Coast

Overview

Property

Updated: 21-Nov-2016
House in Blakeney, Morston, North Norfolk, England, UK - Extremely Comfortable Holiday Home Overlooking Blakeney Harbour, close to beaches

Tides Reach was originally 4 brick and flint cottages dating from the eighteenth century, built by a local ship owner for his best sea captains. They have now been connected into one, creating a wonderfully comfortable home, retaining the charm of the traditional cottage appearance. The cottage has its own spacious driveway with ample off-road parking. The cottage borders a fenced meadow which guests are welcome to use and which provides a lovely safe play area for children and dogs. In addition it has a private walled-in garden adjacent to the house. On the far side of the meadow a private path leads to the marsh where it opens up to a stunning view with the backdrop of Blakeney Point. The walking possibilities are endless and dogs can be walked off the lead on the marshes.

Tides Reach is equally suited to couples wishing to enjoy a peaceful walking break or to a family group with children, dogs and the beach paraphernalia that goes with a happy seaside holiday. We offer reduced rates for low occupancy of 4 people or less.

About the Owner

Until very recently Tides Reach was home to Charlie and Helen and their family and a busy boatyard was on site. Since semi-retiring from his business, his boat building workshop has been converted into their new home.

They have 4 children between them. Charlie's 3 daughters are now grown up and producing grandchildren and their 16 year old son lives with them at Morston.

Their new home is close to Tides Reach and they are always happy to help with any questions their clients may have, or to lend anything their clients may have forgotten to pack!

This house is so well equipped for young families, it's almost better than home! Perfectly located and ideal for walking across the marshes. We've loved it!

Wonderful atmosphere and home

  • 5 of 5

The house is a number of Captains cottages that have been made into one wonderful home. We have been staying at Tides Reach for over 7 years at least twice a year. The house is a wonderful comfortable place with all the comforts anyone would need. The open fires are wonderful in winter and the summer breeze runs through the house when the doors are open. Great pub within walking distance and Michelin Star Morston Hall can be seen from the house just a few yards away. There is a great paddock for dogs and wonderful walks into Blakeney and Stiffkey. Holkham Hall and the beautiful beach is a short drive away and the Victoria at Holkham is great for lunch with the dogs in tow. Everywhere is friendly and dog friendly. The owners of Tides Reach, Helen and Charlie, are wonderful people with a great sense of humour and they are always around to help if you need it. Quite simply a wonderful place to be and stay at.

From the Owner

Having both been brought up within a mile or so of Morston, they are very aware of the special beauty of this part of the world and are keen to share it with others. The Wards' lives are all about the water. They all sail and like nothing more than messing about in boats. Charlie owns and skippers a barge yacht 'Juno' on which he runs charters along the North Norfolk coast in the summer months. Her tan sails can often be seen behind the sand dunes of Blakeney Point or along the beach at Cley. Usually though, it's more low-key stuff they get up to, such as digging the biggest fort ever on Blakeney Point discovering new mud slides in the numerous creeks or picnicing on the marsh, just soaking up the sheer beauty of it all!

Further Details:

There is much to do and see in this very special area of Norfolk. Walks too numerous to mention, a huge variety of coastlines from saltmarsh through shingle beaches and cliffs to long sandy beaches all within a few miles. In addition there are lovely inland areas to explore.

It is a bird watchers paradise with Morston marshes on the doorstep, Cley bird reserve 3 miles away and Titchwell 17 miles or so along the coast road.

Morston is blessed with an excellent restaurant at Morston Hall Hotel (booking essential) as well as a very good pub (The Anchor Inn) where seal trips can also be booked.

Blakeney is just a mile away with a well-stocked village shop with ATM, fish shop, cafes, doctors surgery, gift and craft shops, pubs, restaurant and deli. There are larger supermarkets at Holt, Wells and Fakenham. Blakeney is home to our favourite restaurant 'The Moorings' bistro which is definitely worth booking during your stay.

Good pubs in the area are too many to mention but feel free to ask us.

Families with young children need to go no further than a walk down the marshes either to Blakeney Harbour or Blakeney Creek for their fun - mud sliding is an art form in this part of the world and the Greasy Pole competition is August is an event not to be missed. Gillie (crab) catching off the quay at Blakeney never fails to amuse. Please always check with a local about tide times before venturing over a creek or across to Blakeney Point at low tide if you don't want to trek back the long way!

We are lucky to have Norfolk Etc on our doorstep at the bottom of the land. They are an RYA sailing school which operates throughout the spring, summer and autumn. You can learn to sail (all ages catered for) or drive a powerboat. Alternatively they can take your family out in one of their Norfolk Oyster dayboats where you will have your own skipper who can take you exploring in Blakeney Harbour. They also have paddle boards for hire which are great for exploring the creeks to Blakeney.

There are many areas where you can walk dogs off the lead (including the marshes directly beside the house) but please be respectful to the bird life and other walkers.

Bike hire is available from Holkham estate.

Facilities

From the Owner

Tides Reach is ideally suited to both small groups of adults looking for a peaceful stay in a comfortable home, and larger family groups looking for a good location, plenty of space to let of steam and all the attractions the area has to offer. The majority of our bookings are repeat clients, which we are very proud of. They vary from couples on quiet long weekend breaks, generally families during the school holidays and increasingly large groups getting together for special birthdays and other celebrations. It's a wonderful winter house too, with an open fire, a woodburner and Aga in the kitchen.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: This property is well suited to families so we try to help a little by providing a travel cot, high chair and stairgate. We are also able to provide an additional high chair and rough terrain pushchair with prior notice. There is an outside area for washing your dog with hot and cold water (well, its his holiday too!) We live next door to Tides Reach and are always happy to help with the loan of children's wetsuits, dog towels, etc, if you find you've left yours behind. We are also on hand to help with restaurant reservations, taxis, directions, walk suggestions and advice of the best beaches to visit as well as tide times, etc. Couples and adult groups will find the cottage peaceful and comfortable and the area wonderfully relaxing. There are many choices of places to visit on this area of the coast and plenty of walks directly from the cottage. Although sleeping up to 9, it is perfectly cosy for couples and small groups. Outside: There is a flagstone patio running the length of the cottage with a large teak table and seating for 10 (in store during the winter). The garden is made up of grass and shrubberies and although not large, is perfectly adequate for comfortable outside living in the summer. For more boisterous outdoor play and dog exercising, the cottage borders a private meadow which is for your use and ours only. It is fenced for dogs and has access directly onto the marsh via a small gate in one corner. There are facilities for dog washing beside the cottage with hot and cold water. The cottage is cleaned prior to guests arrival and after their departure. Guests are asked to leave the cottage clean and tidy, but we will do the big clean after they leave! Other: There is a small games room with sofas, Wii console, DVD player and TV. There is a small selection of DVDs in the cottage. There is also a cupboard in this room that houses the boiler and is excellent for drying soggy beach clothes.
