About the Owner

We bought the cottage for our own use, but Wendy has decided to retrain as a nurse, which means that we are unable to use our holiday home as much as we would like. We have therefore decided to share our lovely home with you, and look forward to welcoming you. As it has been fitted out for ourselves, you should find everything that you require for a comfortable holiday.

Very good base for the Brittany area

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is very well equipped and was immaculate when we arrived. A small welcome pack was provided which was much appreciated. The kitchen has all you will need and the first floor shower is huge. The cottage is in a small hamlet of houses next to the stream which has many ducks ( handy for any stale bread). The French neighbors were very friendly and it was a good opportunity to practice my French . The stairs are quite narrow and the decked area is accessed from the first floor. The decked area is a beautiful sun trap. The village has restaurants, bakery, small supermarket and a pub. A perfect location for Brittany. We will be back .

characterful cottage in great location

  • 4 of 5

Jugon cottage provided a perfect base for exploring Brittany. Its location within a short walk of local shops and a selection of restaurants was ideal as we were travelling with my elderly parents who enjoyed having their independence to visit the boulangerie or buy a paper. We were bowled over by how pretty and well kept the village was, with brightly coloured flowers spilling out of tubs every where. Be sure to visit the tourist information as there are many hidden gems in this charming village, the lake is also worth a visit - we saw coypu swimming across it at sunset. It is worth noting that the Auberge restaurant cooked us a great veggie meal on our last night (we popped in to book it a couple of days before) and the Friday market has some wonderful produce and crafts. There is so much to visit in the area, the medieval town of Dinan is just 20 minutes away and the coast 30 minutes. We (archaeologists) also particularly liked Moncontour (great bar with terrace) and Carnac, just under 2 hours drive away.

The cottage was comfortable, clean and generally well equipped (no tea pot? Places to hang coats and bags would be great). The enclosed garden (accessed from second floor) was a bit small and we only managed to eat in it once, partly due to the weather and partly due to practicalities of bringing everything up from the kitchen. However, it was lovely to have the river so close by. Great communication with the owners and agent. Would definitely recommend to others and would love to visit this area again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the comments Rachel. We are pleased you enjoyed our cottage. The area is beautiful with loads of places to visit. We will put up some coat hooks on our next visit and I will be taking a teapot with me.

lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic holiday, staying in this lovely cottage. The cottage is every bit as good as the pictures suggest, beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for a comfortable holiday. Jugon turned out to be a great base, our kids (16, 13 and 9) enjoyed the lake and its activities and the town itself had everything we needed. There was loads to do in the area and even with a fortnight we didn't get to everything.

From the Owner

Jugon is a lovely village with much character and set on the side of a lake. We fell in love with the friendly nature of the village after the people we bought off of refused to sell to us unless we stayed in the village to ensure we liked it. It seemed strange at the time but it captured our hearts. Location wise its great for travelling to the UK. Fly into Dinard, just 20 minutes away or get the ferry to St Malo (30mins) Caen, Cherbourg or Le Havre, all less than 3 hours drive. With easy access to the coast or into western Brittany we have really enjoyed our time here. We hope you will too.

It is only a 30 minute drive to reach the glorious sandy beaches on the coast or you can take a swim in the well equipped swimming pool complex in Jugon (5 minutes walk from the house). There are a variety of watersports that can be enjoyed on the lake.

Our nearest port is St Malo (just half an hour from here) which is serviced by Brittany Ferries. It is also easy to travel to Cherbourg, Caen or Le Havre. Ryanair have routes into Dinard just 20 minutes away, and there is a route from Newquay to St. Brieuc. BMI fly from Southampton into Rennes. Brittany Ferries also go from Plymouth into Roscoff.

Dinan, a medieval town, is a must for a day out with its well preserved castle, quaint streets and buildings. The famous Rue Jerzual is a very steep narrow lane down to the old port of Dinan but the way back is not for the fainthearted!! It has a very large market here in the middle of the town on a Thursday morning.

St Malo, is not just a port but a beautiful town in its own right, the walled city, was heavily bombed during the second world war.

Further Details:

Our pretty house is situated in a lane with 3 other houses, with plenty of parking nearby. The stream passes by on the other side of the lane and meanders through the village. The ducks like to be fed here each morning with leftover bread!

It has been recently and sympathetically renovated and is filled with character, plus there is a pretty garden with decking areas at the back. For a relaxing and peaceful holiday it is ideal and is within easy distance of wonderful sights, beaches and many other amenities.

Situated only 15 minutes from the historic medieval town of Dinan, in the lovely lakeside village of Jugon Les Lacs. There are many facilities within a few minutes walk of the house. Two bakers, a butchers, a local general store/off licence, two bars, a creperie, a pizzeria, 2 good restaurants and a chemist. The main square is the place to go on Friday evenings from the middle of July, as both locals and visitors get together for a knees up with music, wine and food. The Bar in the village often has live music from local musicians which makes for an excellent evening's entertainment.

Jugon les Lacs is known as 'Un Village de Petit Charactere' and is set in a valley surrounded by beautiful countryside. We have watersports such as kayaking, canoeing and sailing available on the beautiful lake. There is a modern outdoor pool with a slide etc. and local tennis courts are available for hire. Fishing in the lake can be arranged. The area is very good for walking and a range of walking routes for all abilities are kept at the house. There are also many cycling routes for beginners or experts.
