Harris Cottage is a recently modernised, traditional, detached Skye cottage, comprising of one double and one twin bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and lounge. It is situated in the crofting township of Portnalong, on the west coast of Skye, approximately 3 miles from the village of Carbost and the world-famous Talisker Distillery. Wifi internet access is included.

Although all rates quoted are for full week-long bookings, we actively encourage enquiries for shorter stays, the prices of which will be given on application.

John is semi-retired after a lifetime in the Scottish steel industry. Marion is still slogging away trying to keep John in the manner that he would like to be kept! :-)

Harris cottage was superbly well equipped and fully merits the term, “ Luxury Cottage “ when describing the place. Every attention to detail has been taken care of and when you think “wouldn’t it be handy if I had x”, it is most often there in the property. Everything functions well and the place was super clean. Well done to the owners for providing such a quality product. We will be back again some time or maybe even try to sister cottage towards the North of the island. Wifi was included in the deal and reasonable speed... enough for Skype to work so we also kept connected.

Location

From the Owner

We fell in love with this location because of the outstanding natural beauty, close proximity to Fiscavaig beach, Loch Harport and the Cuillin Hills. It's a very quiet and peaceful location, and only a 40 minute scenic drive from the main town of Portree.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The cottage is a 10 minute walk to Fiscavaig beach, and 15 minutes by car to Glenbrittle beach.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Inverness, which is a 3 hour drive, and it is a 5 hour drive to Glasgow Airport. A car is essential for travelling around the island.

Distances:

The nearest village, approx. 3 miles away, is Carbost which has a small general store, post office, doctors surgery, and petrol. The Old Inn provides reasonably priced meals. and a great atmosphere. Carbost is also home to the world-famous Talisker Distillery. The island's capital, Portree, is a scenic 40 minute drive from the cottage.

Further Details:

A large supermarket, bakers, butcher, banks, police station and hospital can all be found in Portree.

Petrol and a small general store can be found locally in Carbost.

The Taigh Ailean Hotel in Portnalong provides bar meals and is a 10 minute walk from the cottage.

The cottage is very comfortable and cosy all year round, with easy parking. Ideal for those visitors who are interested in hillwalking, birdwatching, canoeing, sailing and beachcombing. There is a slipway at Portnalong pier. Sea eagles, dolphins and basking sharks can sometimes be spotted.
