Beautifully located and well-presented modern four bedroom holiday home (sleeps 10) with views over some of the most spectacular country the United Kingdom has to offer. Located in the small township of Laid overlooking Loch Eriboll the property is in the heart of one of Britain's last wilderness areas. Whether guests want to climb Ben Hope or walk on one of the many famous white sandy beaches. Bird watch, surf, kayak, fish or play golf on the most NW course on the mainland UK the area has something for everyone.

The castle of Mey, Handa Island, The falls of Shin and even the Orkney Isles can be reached in a day trip.

I have been a regular visitor to the area since a child and continue to love Sutherland and all it has to offer. Unfortunately, I can not actually live in such a remote part of the country due to work and other commitments but the house makes a super holiday home.

The house is exactly what we had hoped for in this beautiful and peaceful area.

Rooms are spacious and is equipped with everything needed for a relaxing and enjoyable break.

We were fortunate to have a period of superb weather throughout our stay, but consider that even if the weather was less kind, our enjoyment would not have diminished.

We would return to this accommodation without a second thought.

Spectacular remoteness

We could not believe the wonderful loch-side setting of the house, the scenery, the remoteness, the glorious beaches and the vast open spaces - it is a truly wild and beautiful part of the world. The house was great - and the large open-planned living space with the spectacular views was an ideal place to relax. Perfect for a family of 4 plus 2 dogs.

So relaxing

Thank you for allowing us to rent your lovely house for our holiday. We were 5 adults, who all needed a relaxing time - and that is just what we got. The house is superbly appointed and very comfortable. But it is the outstanding views from every window which captivated us - and every time you look out the view has changed. We enjoyed walking our dogs on the fabulous local beaches and found some lovely places to eat such delicious treats as locally caught scallops.

It really was the most peaceful restful holiday and we didn't want to leave this lovely place. Thank you.

Home from Home

Arrived and were all delighted with the house and its location. We were two families staying and liked the layout of the house. We found the sleeping arrangements worked well - we could occupy the two ends of the house for sleeping - giving us a modicum of privacy. Plenty of bathrooms too. Good showers! This worked well with children ranging from 4 - 15yrs old. The dining/kitchen (well equipped) /lounge layout was fab and we all loved the social aspect it afforded us.The view were stunning too - especially from the lounge and each window framed a 'picture'. We found the house had everything we needed and liked how the owners shared it. Lots of storage space. Fabulous drying room! It felt more homely than many we've been to and relaxed- no locked cupboards etc. You were more than happy to replace what was used or leave things behind for others. Obviously a much loved family home with interesting history. The local beaches are stunning and plentiful and we were so lucky with the weather! Our dog loved it too. Walked for miles. Plenty to see and do, The Craft village at Balnakeil (quirky and interesting) and Coco Mountain (Best hot chocolate ever!) are worth a visit and we will return again without a doubt.

From the Owner

The house is built on the site of a former croft and was completed in 2010. I have known the area for almost forty years and it has been the base for many happy family holidays with activities ranging from picnics on the beach to fishing for trout in one of the many hill lochs. The wilderness landscape and views in every direction constantly draw me back.

Special interest holidays:

The location in one of Britain's last wilderness areas is ideal for people who enjoy the outdoor life and as a base for activities such as walking, surfing and bird watching.

Quality trout and salmon fishing packages are available from May to September and stalking can be arranged on a number of local estates - please ask the owner for further details.


The shore of Loch Eriboll can be accessed from the croft itself which is a mixture of stone, rock pools and shingle. Ceannabeinne beach is pure white sand and can offer some good surfing. Other beaches are at Balnakeil near Durness and Oldshoremore near Kinlochbervie


Inverness airport is 128 miles and has regular UK domestic flights. The airport also has full car hire facilities.


Inverness is 121 miles. Glasgow is 288 miles. Thurso is 62 miles. Surrounding villages of Tongue, Durness and Kinlochbervie are a short drive.

  • Notes on accommodation: Pets are welcome but we would ask that they are kept out of the bedrooms. Outside: The property has ample parking and forms part of a 12 acre croft planted with natural woodland. Utility Room: A good size utility room with washing machine, dryer, Belfast sink, Iron and pulleys. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bedlinen are included in the rental and are changed weekly. Other: The dining area forms part of the open plan living accommodation alongside the kitchen and living room and seats 8 / 10 people. The house has a large walk in cloak room with ample hanging space for outdoor clothes and storage for boots.
