Our second stay at Villa Sulun and it was as good as ever. The villa is brilliant, well maintained and equipped and in a perfect location. The pool is great, plenty of loungers and shade either from umbrellas or the olive trees. And what a view, a beautiful garden or the fabulous Kyrenia mountain range. Pop up to the rooftop for sun downers, great way to get the evening started. One of the best villas we've stayed in - and there have been a few!

The village of Ozankoy is delightful. It has a traditional Cypriot feel, very relaxed and friendly. The little village shop is ideal for those essentials and just 2 minutes down the road. There are a few good restaurants right in the village so no need to get the car out. We always enjoy a visit to The Rose Garden for good, simple Cypriot fare and an interesting chat with the host. Erol's is another favourite, great food and a nice upstairs terrace view. And when you fancy a xhange

Our stay

An excellent villa. Large, spacious, comfortable, well equipped and clean .There were several patio areas to move around and hide from the sun. The pool area was perfect with plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas. The location in Ozankoy again perfect. It was within walking distance of 3 very good restaurants ,and the heart of a buzzing village. It is below the Bellapais Abbey which us set into the mountains and us beautifully lit up at night.

Kyrenia was no more than a 10 minute drive.

We have now visited Su's beautiful villa 3 times. It is relaxing, well positioned ,fully equipped .Regular service from cleaners , garden and pool staff and not to forget Sally who is always on hand for any problems.

The fact that we have returned twice and will do so again says it all.

The area is surrounded by beautiful olive groves. numerous plants and fruit trees and boasts breathtaking sea and mountain views. Additionally, there is a very friendly atmosphere around the village. There is excellent access to local amenities. Several restaurants within walking distance.

Special interest holidays:

There is a very good riding club in the next village of Catalkoy which caters for novices and experienced riders.(www.catalkoyridingclub.com )

Good walking area in the cooler months with lots of interesting surroundings to see.

There are several small "covey" beaches within 1.5 to 2. kms of the villa but within 15 mins drive there is Acapulco beach complex with its very large pool and water slides in addition to the sandy beach (there is an entrance charge to cover all facilities). A little further is Lara beach (sometimes known as Pepsi beach because of the direction sign) and a little further again Alagadi beach also known as Turtle beach because of the ongoing work to protect the Turtles and their nesting sites.

The main airport in North Cyprus is Ercan airport and is about 35minutes from the villa. For those wishing to avoid the short stop in Turkey, frequent flights are available to Larnaca Airport in the south from numerous airlines including the "low cost" providers as well as British Airways, Easy Jet or Cyprus Airways. The journey time from Larnaca to the villa is circa 1hr 15mins. We can arrange transfers from either Ercan or Larnaca airports advice can be given for transfers and car hire.

10 mins car drive away is Kyrenia (Girne) is regarded as one of the Mediterranean's most picturesque towns. In the heart of Kyrenia is the enchanting old Venetian harbour where by day you can hire boats for fishing or for a trip along the coast where they usually stop at one of the many beaches for a lunch and a swim. The harbour is lined by numerous restaurants, nearby is the impressive seventh century Kyrenia Castle. There is excellent shopping for gifts and all things nice in Kyrenia.

Further Details:

A number of good supermarkets, banks, cash points, money exchange are a short drive away. There is a local mini markets few minutes walk away and also several restaurants in and around the villa.

For culture and history lovers there are the old crusader castles of St. Hilarion (rumoured to have been the inspiration for Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle) and Buffavento castle above Kyrenia and are worth a visit as is Kantara castle further to the east where it was built to protect the Karpaz peninsula. Above Ozankoy is Bellapais. It was in the peaceful setting of the beautiful twelfth century Bellapais Abbey where Lawrence Durrell wrote his "Bitter Lemons" which is set in 1950's Cyprus.

For those interested in historical sites a visit to Famagusta and the Roman ruins of Salamis would be worthwhile, perhaps as a prelude to exploring the Karpaz peninsular where life carries on much as it did a century ago. Wild donkeys still roam the area and you will find lovely uncrowded sandy beaches all along the coast from Famagusta to the tip of the Karpaz peninsula.

To the west of the island can be found the main fruit growing region with its many citrus groves. Again this part of the island is renowned for its unspoiled beauty and tranquil environment.

With its beautiful scenery, mountain walks, tranquil waters with rocky coves and sandy beaches not to mention the many historical sites, the proliferation of welcoming restaurants and friendly Cypriot people are enough to make this area of North Cyprus a place for a truly memorable holiday.

Night life is predominately about al fresco dining in the numerous restaurants followed by a stroll and perhaps a coffee on the harbour. In the foothills of the mountains are plenty of walking trails - ideal for the more active or those interested in bird watching.

From the Owner

Like all places in the Mediterranean, Cyprus is hot throughout the summer. However, on the northern side of the island the heat is alleviated by the sea breeze. Spring and autumn normally have very warm temperatures with a pleasant breeze in the evenings. Other benefits of the property include: air conditioning in the bedrooms, a luxurious living area, an extensive kitchen area with good facilities and a beautiful pool to enjoy. A lit up BBQ area The tropical garden adds a quite unique, yet aesthetically gratifying, touch to this exquisite property. Beautiful views from the roof terrace.
