The cottage is situated in the old quarter of Erquy, Tu Es Roc, where the local fishermen lived overlooking the port and is in walking distance to all amenities and activities: the local boulangerie for your morning's fresh croissants, the port bars and restaurants for your evening's promenade and the beautiful unspoilt beaches and sporting amenities the town has to offer. The walled south facing garden ensures privacy and security for small children.

About the Owner

After scouring the Brittany coast for a holiday home location my mother in law discovered the fishing village of Erquy 40 years ago as an ideal family holiday location. Since that time family members young and old have never tired of it's charm - safe, sandy beaches with numerous rock pools for the children, water sports for all, local bars and restaurants for relaxation, unspoilt countryside with endless miles of rural pathways for the bike riders and walkers to explore the Breton countryside with its idyllic villages lost in time. Once there you don't even need your car - all is within walking distance. Now the family has expanded we have invested in a holiday home to let just down the road.

The 2nd Time

We have visited the cottage twice now, we come to France every year. Erquy is lovely little town with a nice bay and harbour. There are shops and restaurants and the beautiful beaches are all within 5-10 mins drive from the cottage. The cottage is perfect for us as a family of four, our two children share the twin room as they are only 7 and 9 and prefer it. The bedrooms are nicely decorated and cosy and the windows have fab views across the bay, its lovely to open them in the morning. The cottage is well equipped with plenty of crockery and BBQ outside. Parking is fine. We walk to the harbour in the evening for dinner, which is only 5-10 mins away down the hill. We will be back again.

The cottage is in the old quarter of Erquy, Tu Es Roc, where the fishermen lived in the days when Erquy was totally reliant on the fishing industry in particular fishing for scallops. It's location being just outside the centre of town means it is quiet whilst only a short walking distance from all amenities - for example a couple of minutes walk to the local boulangerie. Parking is conveniently opposite the house. Importantly for us Erquy remains essentially very french - you may need to brush up on your french at local bars, shops and for the weekly market, where the food (scallops, mussels, fish, cheeses, bread, salads and drinks are all of a high standard being fresh and locally produced. The beaches are pristine at any time of the year either just for a walk or family day on the bea

Coast/Beach:

A choice of 10 sandy beaches with lots of interesting rock pools at low tide. 3 beaches can be accessed on foot in 10 minutes, either by road or coastal paths. The remainder by car in under 10 minutes.

Numerous rural or stunning coastal walks and cycle paths from the house.

Travel:

St Malo ferry port and airport - 40 minutes drive.

Cherbourg and Caen ferry ports - 3 hour drive.

Distances:

The Cote'd'Armor region is full of idyllic villages and medieval towns, to mention a few: St. Malo the ancient walled port city and Moncontour, a walled medieval town once the centre of Brittany's linen industry. Or Dahoet, a charming port village with 2 fascinating bric a brac/antique emporiums and port side bars and restaurants - a great place to wander and have a relaxing glass of wine.

Further Details:

Every Saturday there is a market in the town centre selling locally grown seasonal produce: mussels, oysters, strawberries, cider.

Sporting activities are endless and include : sailing school for dingy, windsurfing, diving etc. Cycle hire for cycling along the many marked cycle paths off and on road. Tennis courts (5 mins walk). Or just walking along the many clearly marked coastal and rural paths to discover the beautiful unspoilt countryside.

Made of the local "gres rose" the cottage has a unique charm and homely atmosphere. The small south facing walled garden and terrace ensures privacy and security if you have small children. However, it s nearness to all holiday ameneties (shops, boulangerie, beaches, walks) means everyone can do just as they please when they please, no need to all pile into the car whenever you need to go out, which for us has always been an enormous plus.
