Peaceful Provencal Villa With Private Pool Set In Terraces Planted With Olives

Updated: 02-Oct-2016
Villa in Seillans, Var, Provence - Enjoy What Provence Has To Offer At Our Secluded House With Pool And Stunning Views

Our house is at the end of a short steep narrow track above the medieval village of Seillans yet is within ten minutes walking distance of the bar, tabac and boulangerie. There are stunning views from the upper floor, ground floor, terrace, garden and pool area. The garden is terraced and is planted with mature olives, figs and cherries. The house has three bedrooms, two with double beds and one with single beds. We have two bathrooms, one on the ground floor and one on the upper floor, each with a shower, wc and basin. The upper floor is accessed from the lounge via a narrow pitchpine spiral staircase which leads into a mezzanine gallery overlooking the lounge/dining area. The terrace is immediately outside the kitchen lounge/dining room and runs the full width of the house giving panoramic views towards St Cezaire, Fayence and the Esterel hills. It is ideal for long lazy lunches!

About the Owner

We live in Devon, and have spent many holidays in France over the years and have considered buying a property for some time. Ten years ago we took the plunge and bought our house in Provence which we have renovated extensively.

We spend periods there ourselves each year and really enjoy the house, the area and the differences between Devon and Provence.

We love walking and are equally at home on the tracks of Dartmoor or exploring the GR network in the Var.

After many visits to Seillans, this is our first to your lovely home. So peaceful, it only took 24 hours for that delicious Provencal langour to descend and all thoughts of trips evaporated! Wonderful place

  • 5 of 5

From our initial enquiry in the depths of winter until we arrived at the property, the owners were so helpful and kind giving us information and helping us to plan our trip.

The house and location are beautiful and if you like to retreat for a bit of peace this is the place for you. The view was breathtaking and it was so peaceful. The pool is a great size and is well maintained. Our two boys are 6 and 8 and they loved swimming in the pool or kicking a ball around the grassy terraces, playing badminton and gecko searching. We all did a lot of reading in the shade of the olive trees.

It was very convenient to be able to walk down the hill to the village to get fresh bread in the morning or have an early evening drink and watch the masters playing Boules in the square. We did lots of trips to local markets, beaches and the lake. The information folder in the house was a brilliant source to help plan our days. We don't mind driving a bit to reach good places so for us the house was a perfect base which also allowed us some relaxing days by the pool if we felt like it. There are lots of good supermarkets on the main road so it was simple to get provisions there and at the markets. We tended to cook at the house rather than eat out but this was easy as the kitchen is really well equipped.

The beds were comfortable and it was great to have the fans for the hotter nights and mosquito nets - the owners had thought of everything! There were even cool blocks in the freezer to use for picnics!

The manager was very helpful and communicative so if there were any problems we knew we had backup locally.

All in all I cannot fault this place - we had an idyllic family holiday and would love to return another year. Thank you Rosie and John.

Lovely property

The house and pool were very much enjoyed by us and our 3 children. The children loved playing in the pool, while in the evenings it was relaxing to sit and enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace. I would recommend this property to both couples and families alike.

An oasis of calm with a view

  • 5 of 5

Set on the edge of Seillans in an elevated position it would be hard to find a better accommodation locally that is still accessible to the village by foot. Excellently maintained, clean and equipped property. Sufficient space for family of 4-5, with large grounds, good sized swimming pool, bbq and amazing terrace for dining, reading, chilling or simply enjoying the view. Owners very attentive to our needs in preparation for our trip. Plenty to do locally, be it a trip to the coast, a visit to hilltop villages, hiking, cycling, a dip in the lake or an outing to the Gorges du Verdon. Recommended.

Peace and Tranquility in Provence

  • 5 of 5

This property surpassed our expectations. The views were spectacular and the location perfect for a peaceful family holiday. The property was spotless, well equipped and very well maintained. The owners were welcoming, very helpful and knowledgeable about the area, which enhanced our stay as we got to know about local festivals and attractions that we may otherwise have missed.

The property is ideally located for exploring this area of Provence.

Having recharged our batteries we returned home and immediately booked again for next summer - we would definitely recommend this property to friends and familiy.

The view will never leave you

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here (My wife and I and our son (6 yrs old) for a week. We were blessed with the weather and also blessed after extensive searching for holiday lets to come across this one.

Nothing about the property was a problem. But, if I have to give a negative to be constructive it would be the spiral stairs wouldn't be suitable for the elderly or the young. But, again, this isn't really an issue as this also a downstairs twin room and bathroom adjacent if required.

The hosts we very helpful both before and during the holiday. Couldn't have asked for more.

The pool, gardens, petanque court, view, the house itself, the village were all spot on.

Put simply, I couldn't recommend this any more.

From the Owner

Seillans combines a lively community with good facilities in an unspoilt hilltop village with the chateau and church at its core and narrow cobbled streets radiating out from the core, giving access to art galleries, cafes, a bar, boulangerie, tabac, shops and two hotels. The area has many excellent Provencal restaurants and Seillans is within easy driving distance of Nice airport, the A8 motorway and the Riviera with its beaches at Antibes, St Raphael, St Tropez and Cannes. We love walking and the footpath network in the area is excellent, particularly in the Mons/St Cezaire area in the valley of the river Siagne and in the Esterel hills. We appreciate the chance to relax in beautiful surroundings , visiting interesting places and enjoying the many festivals and concerts in the area.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Nice at 50 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Maquis, Seillans at 1 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Terre Blanche at 6 Kilometres Nearest Train : Grasse at 25 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A8 at 16 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Gloire de mon Pere at 1 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Cannes/Agay at 30 Kilometres Car: necessary

The Riviera coast is easily accessible by car from Seillans. The closest beach is at Frejus ( 35 minutes away.) St Aygulf is good.

Beaches at Cannes and Theole-sur-Mer are about 45minutes away.

St Tropez is about an hour away but traffic can be very difficult during the season - the ferry to St. Tropez is easy and fun.

Why not combine a visit to the market in old Antibes with a picnic at the sandy beach by the Marina.

We provide lots of local information at the house on options available.

Nice Airport is accessible along the A8, usually in about 45 minutes from the house.

Toulon and Marseilles airports are a little further away, perhaps 90 minutes and 120 minutes respectively.

If guests choose to drive across France, the distance from Calais to Seillans involves about 12 to 14 hours driving.

In order to fully enjoy what the area has to offer, the use of a car is essential.

Fayence, the local market town is to the east, a 10 minute drive from Seillans, about 4km.

Mons to the north, above Seillans, a 15 minute drive away, about 14km.

Bargemon to the west, about 15 minutes drive, 12km.

Grasse is 31km

Antibes is 38km

Cannes is 55km

Nice 67km

The Matisse Chapel at St Paul de Vence about 65km.

Vineyards are as follows:

Val d'Iris - 10 minutes drive, the Foudre red is recommended!

Chateau de Selves - 10 minutes drive too.

There are many more!

Further Details:

Seillans has everything needed to make a perfect Provencal holiday - a choice of restaurants from family pizzerias to the acclaimed Hotel Deux Rocs in a lovely location at the top of the village; vineyards, boulangerie, tabac with a wide choice of international papers, a small supermarket, pharmacy and a weekly local produce market ; art galleries; international cookery school. A good tourist office too.

Several supermarkets are within 20 minutes drive, the largest being Leclerc on the road to Montauroux.

Walkers have a wide range of routes to explore either from the house or by driving for 15 or 20 minutes to pick up the network of footpaths that cross the Var. We particularly like the Siagne valley between Montauroux, St Cezaire and Mons! Walks in the Esterel hills overlooking the Mediterranean should not be missed.

Gliding is available at the famous centre at Fayence. The gliders regularly overfly the house and short trips can be made at reasonable cost. We have tried this out - an unforgettable experience!

Local markets which must be visited include Fayence, Le Muy, old Antibes and Aups; each has their own speciality. We like Fayence on Saturdays and the clothes with that distinctive French flair on Tuesdays! The markets at Le Muy on Sundays and Aups on Saturdays are our favourites. But the daily food market in old Antibes is hard to beat, closed Mondays.

For those interested in art, the Matisse chapel in Vence, Renoir's garden in Cagnes sur Mer, the Picasso in Antibes and numerous galleries in Nice are worth visiting.

The spectacular Gorge du Verdon, Monaco, St. Tropez and Lac St. Croix are all within 90 mins.

Lac St Cassien is a 20 minute drive from Seillans; here you can swim, hire pedaloes, canoes or boats. There are restaurants overlooking the lake with menus to suit all.

There are hard tennis courts in Seillans and Fayence, with lights.

We recommend La Napoule gardens on the coast - with its delightful terrace restaurant for lunch

From the Owner

There is much to enjoy; long lazy lunches on the terrace with its marvellous views towards Fayence, the Mediterranean and the Esterel hills, collecting fruits from our garden, swimming most days and of course that special quality of light over the hills in the early morning and evening. We enjoy visiting the many local markets, particularly the Saturday markets in Fayence and Aups, the Tuesday market at Lorgues and the Sunday market in Le Muy. We like visiting the galleries and museums; Aix with its Van Gogh heritage is 90 minutes away. Antibes with its Picasso museum is 45 minutes away as is Cagnes-sur-Mer with its Renoir connection, and Nice. Most of all, we enjoy the wonderful location - its views and its very private position at the end of a lane yet within easy walking distance to the centre of the village.
