Elizabeth and Anthony Robinson have been in the the hospitality business in Coniston for many years. So have a unique insight into the needs and expectations of visitors to the Lakes. We are both keen hill walkers, and spend as much time in the mountains as possible. We are always willing to help our guests plan & get the most out of their holiday with us. Anthony is in the voluntary local Mountain Resue Team, its Leader/Deputy for the last 30 years. He was awarded an MBE in this years New Year Honours list. Elizabeth is interested in design and handicrafts, her influence can be seen in the blend of modern appliances with traditional cottage furnishings and accessories, some of which are her own work. We are both interested in plants and the garden is a continuous and evolving challenge.
Mr A Robinson purchased this apartment in 1980
We inherited our original family home in 1981, when we had a Restaurant & Wine Shop in the Village. In 1989 we extended the property by the addition of six generous en-suite bedrooms to create 'Coniston Lodge Hotel'. This was our business for the next 21 years, until we became aware that the modern vocation trend was very much more in favour of the less formal 'Self Catering' option, which gives guests the freedom to come and go as they wish. Not wishing to leave our lovely home or the beautiful surroundings of Southern Lakeland, in 2010, we converted the hotel into two cottage apartments, each with their own quiet private patio/garden areas.
On arrival you will find a welcome tea tray ready for you with with a home made cake.
Coniston Lodge is less than a five minute walk from the centre of Coniston, so conveniently situated within easy walking distance of shops, Inns & Restaurants. Situated on the road that leads up to the mountains above the village our guests can walk out of the front door and have a choice of a miriad of walks of all grades and in all directions, no need to even take the car off the car park. The lake is only a ten minute walk away on level ground, if you would prefer an occasional leisurely Lake Cruise, as a change from the rigours of mountain climbing. For those who would like something even more challenging, why not try Rock Climbing or Ghyll Scrambling with expert tuition available in the village.

Property was exactly as described with a lovely cake on arrival after a long journey. The apartment was perfectly positioned in a beautiful location. Our host was on hand to provide tips when needed. Apartment was beautifully maintained, every thing on hand to make this break one to remember. Views from the apartment of the Old Man was a great way to wakeup each day. we spent the week walking and exploring the area and will definitely come again. We cannot stop talking about our experience in the Lake District, the charm the views, the walks and look forward to returning in the near future. Thank you Mr and Mrs Robinson for making your apartment a true home from home for us,
Sean Anne and Andrew.
Very comfortable and in a terrific location. Would definitely recommend this lovely apartment for anyone visiting the Lakes. Very warm welcome and great advice on dining out from the owners. We look forward to another visit.

Warm welcome by the owner and thank you for the lovely cake on arrival. Coniston Lodge is very centrally located in the village a few moments walk away from several pubs and shops and minutes away from Coniston Lake. Like previous contributors we did not use our car during the four night stay. The apartment (Tarn Hows) was very clean and very well equipped. We used the boat to get to Brantwood, (Ruskins House-well worth a visit) and for a cruise on Coniston Lake. We had a wonderful tour of the northern lakes with Coniston Tours. The Robinsons were very kind hosts making recommendations as to where to eat. Very good meal at the Black Bull and another at a new restaurant called steam. Would recommend Coniston Lodge and intend to visit again. Despite it being half term, the Coniston side of the Lake District was fairly quiet whilst Windermere was very busy. Thanks again to the Robinsons and hope the review is useful to others,
We had a great stay in this clean and well-equipped apartment. We left the car behind and walked, went for boat rides and relaxed. Although seconds from the centre of Coniston, the apartment is tucked away and quiet with no-one above or below. Elizabeth and Anthony were friendly but unobtrusive and the homemade cake on arrival went down very well. Our group was mixed with an 11 and 70+ year old and we would all definitely like to return!
We loved our stay back in March (had good weather too). The delicious freshly baked Victoria sponge set the tone for the rest of our stay. Lovely place and could walk to most everywhere which made a refreshing change to the car. Our hosts were gracious and we really look forward to going back in the autumn. Just to say our accommodation was very comfortable and the location very peaceful and quiet at night, it was truly home from home for us.
