The house looks across an extensive vineyard and is located 4.5km away from Gordes, one of the most beautiful villages in France. This traditional stone house sits in a small hamlet; it was built 250 years ago but completely renovated 20 years ago by a recognized designer into a bright, chic and sophisticated house. It is about 180 square-meters, with 3 bedrooms and 2 large bath rooms. The 1500 square-meters private garden has lots of trees, a large private swimming pool (12x6m) and a charming courtyard. Plus a 2-car parking beyond. The village of Coustellet, with its market, supermarket and multiple stores is 4 kms away, Avignon (with its TGV train station) 35 kms away and Marseille (with its international airport) 70 kms away.

About the Owner

We bought this house about seven years ago from a British couple who owned it for about 20 years and had done a very nice job in renovating it, keeping the authenticity and charm while bringing a lot of contemporary feel and comfort.

We love it but, as we are leaving in Tokyo, we cannot enjoy it as much as we would like so we decided to rent it. And, we are very happy to now have some families coming back year on year!

The location was the most important to us when we bought this house: Gordes is right in the heart of Luberon, close to so many amazing villages, and with very easy access to many shops, restaurants, markets and - conveniently - the largest supermarket in the area (Super U, in Maubec / Coustellet, is 4.5 kms away) But, in the meantime, it is in the countryside surrounded by nature.

Activity and Interests


Mediterranean sea (around Marseille area, Sausset les Pins, Carry le Rouet) or in Camargue (Saintes Maries de la Mer) is approximately 1 hour 1/2 away by car.


Airports: Marseille (approx. 1 hour by road - 70 kms). TGV: Avignon Station (approx. 40 minutes by road - 40 kms). Use of car is essential in the region.


Gordes: 4.5kms

Goult: 7kms

Coustellet: 4kms

Menerbes: 7kms

L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue: 15kms

Avignon: 35kms

The Luberon is famous for the old stone house villages nestled in its hills, and the house is surrounded by these most famous and beautiful villages in Provence.

You will have an easy access to Gordes (officially one of The Most Beautiful Villages in France), Menerbes ("A Year in Provence" by Peter Mayle), Bonnieux, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (riverside village worldwide famous for its antiques dealers), Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (a beautiful valley where the emerald green waters overflow into the Sorgue river), Oppède Le Vieux and Roussillon.

Near by the house, you will also find fine lots of wineries, olive mills, and outdoor Provencal markets.

Many of the cities and villages around organize their own cultural events during the Summer, such as theater or music festival (Avignon, Aix en Provence, Orange, Robion, or Gordes).

Luberon also offers lots of outdoor activities (hiking, cycling, mountain biking, etc)

This house is very comfortable and very bright unlike many old houses in Provence that have rather small windows. The courtyard is perfect for all outside meals, with some shadow and well protected from all winds. The garden is very nice with many trees (inc. olive trees) and a very large private swimming pool (12 meters X 6 meters) in old stone and concrete.
