About the property

Townhouse in Albunuelas, Lecrin Valley, Granada Province, Spain - Quiet Location Midway Between Granada And The Costa Tropical

Casa Grenadino, (The house of the Pomegranate Tree) has been lovingly restored using local, reclaimed materials. It has modern heating throughout and most rooms have fully operational, original olive wood fires. It sleeps 6 in luxury and 10 at a push. The house is owned by a second generation of chefs. The kitchen lacks for nothing with fresh herbs growing abundantly around the courtyard in the shade of lemon, olive and pomegranate trees. There is a beautiful plunge pool which is the perfect place to cool off after a day in the Andalucian sun. With stunning views across the Rio Santo gorge, Casa Grenadino is without doubt one of the finest renovations in the valley. A timeless Moorish townhouse in the lower barrio of the village, a place of winding alleyways where orange laden mules meander the twisting white washed lanes in the shade of overhanging bougainvillea. Perfectly situated between Granada and the beaches of the Costa Tropical both of which are less than 1 hours drive away.

Activity and Interests

The Costa Tropical has 18 miles of sandy beaches and is relatively unspoilt. It is still possible to find secluded spots. Salobrena and Almunecar, around 40 minutes drive away have Moorish hilltop castles, old towns and good restaurants.

Granada airport is 40 mins away, Malaga 2 hours away. Car hire is essential and is available at the airports. We can provide details on request.

Albunuelas village centre is a few minutes walk with the nearest small supermarket about 5 minutes.

Villages lower down the valley are all within 5 to 15 minutes drive.

Granada is 30 minutes drive and the Costa resorts 40 minute to 1 hour drive time.

Lanjaron, 30 mins away, is the entry town for the Alpujarras area.

Further Details:

Granada city with good shopping and excellent restaurants is about 30 minutes drive from the house. The magnificent Alhambra is a must-see and the Albayzin, a warren of passages and alleys full of stalls, tetarias, bars and restaurants is a great place to explore. The valley is a paradise for walking, cycling (although a little hilly) or lazing about doing whatever you please. Or if you fancy the experience, without the exertion there is always horse riding. Palmali Horse Riding will take you along some of the best pathways in all Andalucia.

The front door of Casa Grenadino sits right on the Gran Recorrido (long journey), reaching from near Gibraltar all the way to Istanbul. Now the infamous Gr7 walking route but originally one of the main migration routes used by early man as he moved inland away from the coast. Over the centuries the route became one of the major trade routes linking east and west. Who knows what exotic delights passed the house over the eons. Although the whole 10,5km is possibly a little ambitious for a fortnights break, the tracks and paths around the house are wonderful for anything from a gentle meander to more ambitious hikes.

To the south you have the shimmering waters of the Costa Tropical. One of the few places on the coast where development has been kept to a minimum. Last year we were lucky enough to watch wild moufalon meander through the olive groves and oleander above our near-deserted beach.
