About the property

Village House in Zuheros, Cordoba - Perfect Base for Exploring Cordoba, Granada, Malaga and Enjoying the Magnificent Local Scenery.

Zuheros is one of the most beautiful whitewashed villages in Andalucia, nestling in the folds of the Sierra Subbética and surrounded by 1000-year-old olive groves. Its Moorish castle clings improbably to a rocky outcrop and you can sit in its shade and enjoy a coffee or perhaps a glass of the local fino. The village is an excellent base from which to go walking, climbing, cycling and bird-watching and the fascinating cities of Cordoba, Granada and Malaga are only a short drive away. Casa la Hoya is a comfortable, well-equipped village house, recently refurbished to a very high standard. The Moorish decorative style extends to the beautiful walled garden. From here, you can sit by the fountain and listen to the bells of the goats as they climb the mountain side. As well as shops and a pharmacy, the village has restaurants, bars and two museums. A couple of kilometres away is our very own “Bat Cave”, which contains remarkable prehistoric cave paintings and amazing rock formations.

About Helen Hartstein

We are Billy and Helen Hartstein. We moved to Spain in 2006 for an adventure and to spend some time with our two young sons.

We lovingly restored our village house and settled into life in Zuheros. Our boys went to the local school and we made many good friends in the village.

However, at the end of 2010 we decided to return to the UK for family reasons and so we are renting out our lovely house in Zuheros. We hope that you will enjoy staying in it as much as we enjoyed living in it!

Why Helen Hartstein chose La Subbetica

We searched the length and breadth of Spain, looking for the perfect place to live. We wanted somewhere stunningly beautiful and historically interesting, with good local amenities and transport links. The first time we saw Zuheros, we fell in love with the village. Although we explored many more places in Spain, we kept coming back to Zuheros - we knew we had found a wonderful place to live.

What appealed to us most about the location was the fantastic mountain scenery, beautiful castle, historic village, proximity to a national park, the walks and cycle routes. It is remote and far away from the crowds, yet well connected, close to excellent motorways and within easy distance of an airport. We are also close to the fascinating cities of Cordoba and Granada.

What makes this house unique

The house is conveniently located in a quiet village, so whilst you can enjoy the tranquility of a "pueblo blanco" you can still benefit from local amenities such as shops (including pharmacy), banks, bars and restaurants.

The property was intended as a family home rather than just a holiday property and as such is finished to a very high standard - with handmade terracotta floor tiles, a fantastic bathroom and a beautiful fitted kitchen.

Above all, the unique selling point of the property is the stunning location. Once you have seen Zuheros, you will agree that it is the most beautiful village in Spain.

I would love to come to Zuheros again. I thought it the most beautiful place and hated leaving. I went swimming in your beautiful village pool, admired the view from the castle and made friends with the neighbours. All in all I was as happy as a person could possibly be. (AJ – Cambridge)

Notes on accommodation: A welcome pack is available for guests, containing bread, milk, tea, coffee and wine. If you are arriving late or on a Sunday and would like us to order more food in for you, please let us know. During the cooler months, guests can use the large wood-burning stove. There are oil-filled electric heaters for bedrooms and electric fans for cooling down in the summer. The property is ideal for families with children – there is a beautiful enclosed patio to rear, paddling pool and plenty of toys to play with. This is a no smoking property. Sorry, pets are not allowed. Outside: Outside there is a beautiful walled garden containing flowering plants, fruit trees and an ornamental fountain in the Moorish style. The garden contains a wooden table and chairs, garden parasol and deckchairs. A paddling pool is available for children. The village swimming pool is five minutes away: a stunning open-air pool surrounded by grassy lawns and shady trees. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen and towels are included. Property cleaned on weekly basis.

Home from home in a beautiful village

Very spacious house in the heart of the village with restaurants and local shops nearby and wonderful walks on your doorstep.

The booking process was extremely simple, Helen was always ready to answer any queries. On arrival we were met by Antonio who speaks excellent Englishy and showed us round the house, which was spotlessly clean. The highlight of the property is definitely the Moorish inspired garden.

We spent a glorious week exploring locally, mainly on foot but also using the local bus service (we do not drive). Highly recommended for anyone wanting a week of peace in a beautiful unspoilt Andalucian village. The flowers and the birdwatching were spectacular, as were the views over the surrounding countryside.

Beautiful Zuheros!

We have just returned from our second visit to this lovely place and really enjoyed our stay in this property.The first time we came we stayed in the hotel but for this trip.we wanted to rent somewhere to give us more freedom.and this very nice house was ideal .It has plenty of room, lots of character and ,best of all, at the rear, there is a very pretty and secluded small garden -a perfect place to have breakfast, read a book or enjoy a sundowner at the end of another perfect day! The house is well situated with a supermarket at the end of the street ,and a few steps away there is also.a Mercado which also.sells eggs, bread, cold meats and fresh fruit and veg.The town has some good places to eat in the evening and the one in the square is next to a mirador which

has a breathtakingly view! Car hire is needed here in this national park - the Subbetica -but it is a glorious area and we hope to return again.: i

Une maison lumineuse, spacieuse, avec tout le confort nécessaire pour un séjour exceptionnel.

A short stay in sunny Zuheros

We've just returned from a fabulous stay in Zuheros. The house was perfect for the four of us; plenty of room with great facilities. We received a very warm welcome from Antonio and the welcome pack was a very pleasant surprise. The beautiful village of Zuheros is terrific, very clean and well cared for houses. The castle and museums were good and super meals were enjoyed at the Zuheros Hotel and Minerva Hacienda (a short walk out of the village). There are many good walks around the village. Zuheros is an ideal place to stay to get to Cordoba and many places in the nearby national park. The bat cave is also worth a visit.

We recommend the house and the village without reservation.

Perfektes Wohnhaus in traumhafter Umgebung

Wir hatten gerade zwei Wochen Traumurlaub: ein Haus, in dem wir mit Wein und Brot willkommen geheißen wurden(!) und wo auch sonst alles Wichtige richtig toll war: Küchenausstattung, Matratze, geräuschdichte Fenster, super Bäder, ein wunderschöner Innenhof, und das Ganze in einem kleinen, freundlichen, weißen Dorf gelegen. Von der Haustür aus kann man schon zum Bergwandern aufbrechen. Für Sportler gibt es aber auch die ebenere "via verde", auf der man joggen oder Rad fahren kann. Auf alle Fälle wird man sich für den Olivenanbau interessieren - denn der ist hier allgegenwärtig.

logement très agréable et bien situé

logement impeccable au coeur du village de caractère,vaste, très bien équipé, accueil et départ à convenance.

beaucoup de documentations touristiques disponibles

environnement calme et typique, balade et rando en départ direct du logement

central pour les visites de Cordoba, Grenade et la région environnante (Subiteca), un peu plus excentré pour Séville

une seule réserve, sur la piscine, nous n'avions pas été assez attentif, elle n'est pas interne au logement et uniquement de fin Juin à Septembre. Fin Avril, les températures étaient supportables, plus tard dans la saison cela nous aurait manqué.

Coast/Beach:

The many and varied beaches of the Costa del Sol are about an hour and a half away by car. Nearer is the inland lakeside beach at Iznajar which has beachside restaurants, bars and many watersports facilities.

Travel:

Both Malaga and Granada airports are around 1 ¼ hour away by car. Cordoba railway station is 45 minutes away. It is possible to get to Zuheros by public transport, (one of our guests has done it!) but a car is highly recommended. Car rental is available at the airports or at Cordoba railway station.

Distances:

Zuheros is ideally located midway between Cordoba (45 minutes) and Granada (1 ¼ hour) and is just over an hour’s drive from Malaga. Other interesting places nearby include local towns Baena, Cabra and Priego de Cordoba, with Seville only a couple of hours away.

Further Details:

Zuheros is a friendly and welcoming village, nestling at the foot of the Sierra Subbética. The national park is a popular with walkers, cyclists and bird-watchers, and there are many walks in the area. The village itself has shops, a pharmacy and two banks. There are several bars and restaurants as well as an open air swimming pool in the summer months. The nearby town of Baena is famed for its olive oil and you can visit several olive oil mills (Almazaras) in the area.

Bookings can be made by phone or email and can be secured with a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the total amount. The balance is payable 8 weeks before arrival with a £150 breakages deposit which will be refunded (provided no breakages or damage) no later than two weeks after your departure.

Changeover Day:
Preferred changeover day, particularly during peak periods, is Saturday but we do try to be flexible, depending on bookings. Arrival after 3pm, departure by 11am.
