About the Owner

We have lived in the Old Station at Bridge of Dee for 12 years. It has always been our dream to locate and renovate an old railway carriage as self catering accommodation at our property. We are generous helpful people who want to ensure any guests we have enjoy their experience with us as much as possible.

New Year 2011/12.

We decided quite late on that we'd like to escape from Edinburgh for a New Year trip and having seen the carriage website and reading the reviews on trip advisor I was sold. I love something different and this certainly met the requirements. we were not disappointed. Even before we arrived we knew the heating would be on and milk in the fridge. Its often the little things that really make an experience and to find that on arrival we also had a lovely bottle of red wine was a really nice surprise.

The pictures do not lie, this is exactly what it's like. While the living area is cosy the bedrooms are spacious and having two en suite rooms really helped. Lovely hot powerful showers too.

The location is great for exploring this area of the country. In one day we saw red squirrel, deer, red kite, buzzards, foxes and the family cats.

we can't wait to come back and experience the carriage in the summer.

Take the train&see what you're missing

  • 5 of 5

This train was truly FIRST CLASS. Such high standard of comfort and luxury with a kitchen which caters for whatever you wish to cook. The children loved the spacious garden with nature on your doorstep- we even saw a woodpecker!!. This is a great base to visit the many fascinating towns , historical sites nearby and so much more. This is one train journey we will all look forward to again . Thanks

Location

From the Owner

Galloway is a beautiful yet relatively undiscovered corner of Scotland. We have all of the scenic benefits of the more populated areas without the crowds. We are also a relatively "Midge Free" zone. Galloway has a beautiful coastline, mountain terrain and lochs. It is also one of the main areas for the "7" Stanes mountain biking trails. In addition it has a variety of superb golf courses ranging from championship standard to beginners.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

There are a number of excellent beaches within easy car travel of the Carriage.

Travel:

Nearest airport is Prestwick - 60 miles. We are some 90 miles south of Glasgow Airport. car availability would be beneficial although we can provide transport in certain circumstances.

Distances:

Threave Gardens two miles. Castle Douglas - Food Town three miles. 7 Stanes mountain biking - Dalbeattie 8 miles / Kirroughtree 25 miles. Kirkcudbright - Artists Town 7miles. Osprey Viewing 2 miles. Red Kite feeding area 4 miles. Laggan adventure centre - with the longest Zip Wire in the UK 14 miles. Coco Bean chocolate factory 6 miles.

Further Details:

Excellent area for bird watching. In the winter there are barnacle geese all around. We are close to the Red Kite Trail and in the summer season there is an Ospreys nest nearby with viewing platform.
