Traditional Grade II Listed Cornish Cottage

A special retreat, Maple Cottage is stylish, spacious and comfortable. Attached to the owners house, set in stunning sub tropical gardens, the Grade II Listed Georgian cottage retains character with stripped wood floors, thick walls, an original granite inglenook fireplace with a wood-burning stove and is decorated with Farrow & Ball eco-friendly paint. The gardens around the property are gardened using eco friendly methods, and are planted to attract bees and butterflies. The owners paintings adorn the walls and you may visit their nearby gallery & studios. Handwoven pieces including t-towels and other linen provided. Maple Cottage is situated in a beautiful area in the heart of West Cornwall with views down the Lamorna Valley to a distant glimpse of the sea. The cottage will appeal to those interested in wildlife, country walks and the nearby ancient historic standing stones. Beaches, the coastal path are within easy reach.

Cosy cottage in the countryside
A nice cottage in a quiet part of the countryside. Very friendly hosts & an excellent garden to admire the various plants being cultivated. Good connections to the local towns & the various coastal beaches. Overall, a good place for a week away from the rat-race.

Disappointing
Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our stay at Maple Cottage, it was not what we had expected, based on the online reviews. We found the cottage cold, unwelcoming and the furnishings and equipment basic.

Beautiful stay at this wonderful haven
We had a fantastic stay here. The space is a great size, the kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals and the private garden was so lovely to have access to. The cottage has everything you need for a cosy stay and the location is amazing. Close enough to Penzance and other spots but out in the countryside too. It was a pleasure to meet and chat with Pam and Noel. We would definitely stay again 🙂

Very clean and great location
We really liked how clean Maple Cottage was (especially in the midst of a pandemic). The location was also excellent and we found some nice walks in the area. The cottage was very quiet so good for a getaway. Communications from the host was good but they also gave us privacy. The only drawbacks to the cottage was the toilet/shower - the flush to the toilet was very temperamental and proved very difficult to flush. The shower was extremely weak and quick showers were challenging. We ended up taking baths more often (as there was no issue filling the bath with the taps!) which felt like a waste of water.

Host profile image
Attracted by the inspiring landscape and the quality of light we moved to Cornwall from London over 30 years ago. My husband, Noel Betowski, is an artist and I am a hand-weaver. The photo shows us at our exhibition at the Penwith Gallery in St Ives.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with the romantic, unspoilt and historic nature of this area that transports one back to a time gone by. Although situated in quiet rural area, it is only a five minute drive to the market town of Penzance and the sea. Our property is one of the important historical houses of West Cornwall.

What makes this property unique

Situated in the centre of rural Penwith with easy access to towns, beaches and coves. The area retains a timely historic atmosphere.
