About Simon Horwood

Simon and Sarah live, with their two daughters, in Hertfordshire where they run a sheep breeding smallholding, specialising in Zwartbles. They bought the property in March 2016 from Joanna and Peter who have had the pleasure of ownership for 15 years. The aim is to maintain the villa to the high standard that it has been kept and that future guests will enjoy the same levels of service, from the same support team, that has been available in the past. The pictures on the website were taken by Joanna and Peter, but all the fixtures and furnishings have remained unchanged so despite having new owners there will be no difference in the look or feel of the villa. Simon and Sarah are extremely excited and privileged to be able to enjoy and share this gem.

Simon Horwood purchased this villa in 2017

Why Simon Horwood chose Loulé

The climate in this part of the Algarve is absolutely fantastic. There are so many clear sunny days and the quality of light and air is uplifting especially after a few grey months in London.

In the height of the summer when it can be very hot there is usually a breeze so it is not too over powering and in the winter we often sit outside in t shirts eating lunch and have even swum in November.

We love entertaining family and friends and the villa is a perfect place to do this.

There are a great many restaurants and bars to suit all tastes and pockets and we particularly enjoy sitting at the beach restaurants eating fresh fish and drinking local wine.

The area feels safe and people are polite and courteous. Children are welcome everywhere which is a bonus for family holidays.

What makes this villa unique

There are activities for all age groups and everyone can be as busy or as chilled out as they want.

Being able to walk to the beach, the tennis club and the Praca makes a big difference so everyone can be independent without needing to get in a car all the time.

Individual guests can have their own privacy by using the various terraces to read, write, paint or sunbathe without being disturbed.

Being in a cul de sac and slightly outside the main hub makes it very peaceful and quiet.

If the weather is dull the games room with table tennis, snooker etc is very useful and this is a good area for younger members of the party to have some autonomy.

If the weather is very hot the house is well protected and cool. There is a lot of space in the house so it never feels over crowded.

'The villa was absolutely superb and ticked every box and the holiday was a great success...we were sad to leave'

Emma Clarke August 2014

"The villa is a superb set up for a family holiday and with the location,

the pool and games room[hardly used] there is everything anybody would want.

It also has the advantage of feeling as a home rather than purely a rental property."

Perfect villa for families to share

  • 5 of 5

We were two families and a mother in law (9 total) The villa is huge, clean, really well equipped and just perfect for families really. The pool is great and was well used. The villa is in a quiet street, but easy enough to walk to the beaches, tennis and restaraunts. We did have a hire car which came in useful for supermarket and trips to zoo marine and Loule. The cleaner came several times and was fab. I'd happily come back here again. It's gorgeous, but you don't feel on edge with kids running around, it's really homely rather than fancy decor wise. Our youngest is under 2 and required a lot of supervision on stairs as they are marble and the banisters are quite far apart so slightly worried about him falling through, and obviously around the pool. Fab holiday, would hire again.

Worked a treat!

  • 5 of 5

A group of 6 of us stayed at the Villa for a post GCSE break - Mum and 5 girls. The Villa is spacious and very well equipped making for a very comfortable stay. The outside pool area is lovely, well laid out and plenty of room for all to laze, read, swim and generally chill out.

Location wise it worked well particularly for the teenage girls who regularly walked to the beach and local night scene. The tennis academy is not far and away and of course, there is golf everywhere so it kept me happy too.

All and all a real result and a hit for all.

Wow!!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful villa in a quiet area. We are a group of 8 ladies who went to Vale do Lobo to play tennis and relax.. The relaxation was made very easy as the villa has everything you could wish for. It's very clean and well maintained and looks in real life just like it does in the pictures! We loved the massive games room where we had several roommates challenges after dinner at table tennis, pool and table football!! The layout of the bedrooms was fine for us as the beds could all be separated, apart from the master, which was big enough to lose yourself in!! The walk to the tennis centre was about 20 minutes and we classed that as our warm-up!

There are several restaurants on the Praca, which is within easy walking distance. We also visited Julia's, which was wonderful - food was amazing and service very good - and Maria's, which has a very good reputation, but we think it needs to work on its service.

The maid service was appreciated - they visited 3 times during our short stay - with ladies who were lovely and couldn't do enough for you. We also had to call the property managers for a very minor problem (one of the plugs got stuck in the sink) and they came out immediately to sort it out.

We are looking forward to being able to stay at this beautiful villa again next year.

Relaxing Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have recently returned from a 10 day stay at this beautiful villa.

We were two families and with 4 spacious bedrooms (two on each floor) we all had our own space and the games room kept all ages entertained.

The villa is very private with a lovely pool and stunning views from the roof terrace.

A car is necessary for 'the supermarket run' but we walked approx. 10 mins to the beach and Maria's restaurant down an unmade path and further along the beach are two further restaurants Julia's and Izzy's. A lovely walk across the golf course took us to 'The Praca' approx. 20 mins where there is a selection of restaurants and bars to suit everyone.

We took a Taxi one night into Villamoura which costs 15-20 Euro (for an 8 seater) each way and we found the best price by booking it through Villas and vacation who were helpful at all times.

The owners of the Villa were very informative before we left with lots of local info, maps etc and there is a very useful handbook at the villa.

Vale de Lobo is just stunning but always to good to review the area before you go so as not to miss anything such as local markets etc..

Highly recommend.

Excellent villa - 5 out of 5

  • 5 of 5

This property is even better in reality than the photos and description imply.

We had a mixed group of teenagers with us and the house has plenty of communal areas as well as more private places to go if they (or their parent) need some space - my favourite was the roof terrace.

The property was spotlessly clean when we arrived and well maintained by cleaning and pool staff during our stay.

In terms of things to do - the bars and clubs at the nearby Praca kept the teenagers happy during the nights, but the beach is also very close if you have younger children, and the golf and tennis facilities are all easily reached.

We liked Maria's restaurant on the beach - good food and stunning views, especially if you're there for dinner to watch the sunset. Be sure to book beforehand, as we saw several people turned away on the day.

Spikes bar and restaurant is also worth a trip for cocktails and has nice views of the golf course and gardens. It also has a brasserie which is very child friendly, not only for the food, but also for play areas (ie the putting green which is right next to the tables).

We had a great stay, and would happily recommend it.

Location

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The stunning sandy beach of Vale do Lobo is only 10 minutes walk from the villa, Maria's restaurant is at the end of the path to the beach. There are a wide variety of activities on the beach including pedaloes, parascending, water skiing, banana boating etc. You can walk to the centre of Vale Do Lobo along the beautiful beach where there are restaurants, bars and cafes. You can also walk up to Quinta do Lago and round the Ria Formosa Reserve famous for its bird life.

Travel:

Nearest airport is Faro which is 25 minutes drive. Car hire is useful and can be picked up at the airport. Taxis are also easily available and can be booked in advance.

Distances:

Almancil is only 10 minutes by car with a full range of shops, banks, chemists etc. Apollonia is an excellent supermarket in Almancil and there is also a supermarket in Vale Do Lobo.

Further Details:

The Val do Lobo Tennis Academy is within easy walking distance and there are regular tennis tournaments, group and individual coaching sessions, BBQs and many other activities there.

There is also a tennis and kids club at Villas and Vacations 3 minutes drive and child club facilities at the Vale do Lobo centre Children's club.

There are wonderful walks in the hills behind Loule and along the spectacular coast line up towards Cape St Vincent the most westerly point of Europe).
