Le Grand Juvet was originally built as the stud farm to the local Chateau and is a magnificent collection of stone buildings complete with tower. We live on site in the tower so are here to greet you and help with anything you need to make your holiday a great one, yet you have a the privacy of your own courtyard and pool. We have set out to provide spacious accommodation with peaceful, private outside space where we hope you will relax and enjoy the lovely scenery. If you can drag yourself away from the property we are in a great situation for exploring some stunning countryside. We have swimming lakes, beaches, marked walking and cycling trails all within 10 minutes and just a five minute drive from us we have the use of a private fishing lake.
We have lived in France for several years now and run two businesses, our gites and also a tree surgery business. Both of these allow us to make the most of the lovely countryside and glorious weather. We look forward to welcoming you to Le Grand Juvet.
Maxine purchased this barn in 2008
We fell in love with this part of France. Its a beautiful area with lots of trees and lush countryside. The locals really could not have been nicer to us and we have been made so welcome. We often come home to find a neighbour has left surplus veg on our doorstep. Lots of people say its like the UK was 40 years ago when nobody had to lock doors and everyone was keen to help everyone else. Oh and coming from Scotland the weather has been a huge bonus, proper seasons and lots of sun in summer time!
'Absolutely superb gite in a most beautiful location. We cannot think of a more perfect place to relax and unwind'
'We all had a fantastic and relaxing holiday in your beautiful gite that has everything you could possibly want and more. It's so peaceful here and the surroundings and views are wonderful, we wish we could bottle it all up and take it home with us. We grew very fond of all the animals, especially the daily visits from the baby ducks. You wont find better hosts, they have been so kind and helpful to us and so enjoyable to talk to. There is so much to do in the area, we especially enjoyed the races at Pompadour, swimming in the lake at St Yrieix, the castle at Chalucet.... All in all the perfect holiday and we hope to return'
'We picked this gite because it filled all the boxes for our requirements, we now know that it has filled more than boxes - it has filled our hearts with fond memories for years to come!'

What a lovely week. The Barn was really welcoming, and had everything you could need for a week away. It has been renovated to a very high standard and really felt like a home from home. It's a long drive to get there from Calais, but worth every minute! The kitchen is so well stocked, if you cook - you'll want for nothing! Everywhere was really clean and tidy, and is a real credit to the work put in by the owners Maxine & Darren. Maxine even offered to prepare a salad and cold meats for us ready for our arrival as they knew we'd be shattered, such is the friendly welcoming manner that she has. We were concerned that we had forgotten to buy BBQ coals when we got there, but there was a gas BBQ ready and waiting to be fired up - this was a godsend after the drive! Maxine even made sure we had eggs, juice and milk in the fridge, as well as a bottle of wine when we got there. The terrace area to the rear had lots of use over the week, as did the pool to cool off. Definitely the best stay we have had in France - don't look elsewhere on this site, if the property is available - book it!
Thank you both for the week, and we hope to see you again!
It was so good, we never wanted to go out, We would definitely book it again, Very clean, and very well laid out, The owners Maxine and Daren couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable, I would recommend the barn to anyone who wants to just relax and soak up the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, The kitchen is fitted out with every conceivable utensil and crockery, so if you like to do a bit of cooking you'll have no problems there.
In one month we visited a lot of restaurants and didn't have one bad meal, you'd never say that in england! All in all got to be the best place we've ever stayed in france.
The level to which the property had been restored and the views of the sun setting over the hills beyond when we arrived took our breath away. For sure, every superlative has already been used in previous reviews to describe Le Grand Juvet. It has the WOW factor in abundance. Maxine and Darren have created a real haven of tranquillity and comfort here.
We stayed in The Barn and can honestly say it is the most well equipped gite we have stayed at. The attention to detail is second to none. As we arrived into Limoges on a Sunday evening, the extensive welcome pack provided which included fresh bread, jam, croissants and eggs was a real bonus meaning Monday morning's breakfast was covered without the need of an early trip to Super U!
Even in September we had 5 days of unbroken sunshine meaning we could take full advantage of the vast outside area and enjoy the stunning views from the back of the property. We also spent many an early evening driving around the area, stopping off in the odd village bar en route. If you like wildlife, enjoy the sense of getting away from it all and being able to completely relax, then Le Grand Juvet will not disappoint. We definitely hope to return.
Although I had looked over the pictures and information several times in anticipation of our holiday at Le Grand Juvet, I was not prepared for the WOW factor as we arrived. The Barn was beautiful, it had been lovingly restored to a very high standard. It was surprisingly spacious and immaculately equipped with everything you would need from a holiday home, inside and out. Darren and Maxine made us feel very welcome, they greeted us on arrival and gave us all we needed to settle in, including a lovely welcome pack and a pre-lit log fire! They were always around to answer any questions, and couldn’t do more to help, such wonderful hospitality. The locals were very friendly too! And then there’s the setting – simply stunning! With only a week we didn’t have time to explore properly but what we did do we enjoyed. The grounds and scenery are breath-taking, it’s a very peaceful location but with lots to do. We made use of the well-equipped games room and enjoyed taking the bikes out on the winding country lanes, the weather was glorious, reaching up to 26 degrees (not bad for April!). We ventured to Bordeaux for a day at the beach during our stay, and Darren and Maxine even lit the fire for us to arrive home to (as it did get a little chilly in the evening). What made the holiday for us was the beautifully restored Barn, the setting, the lovely hosts and the animals!! The children loved looking for eggs in the morning and my son helped with the horses; grooming, washing and leading them in and out of the field and Maxine even gave him a ride on Zarr, the ‘gentle giant’. We really did fall in love with the place, and have already booked our return in July!
We have stayed in a number a gites around France but have returned to Haute Vienne and Le Grand Juvet time and again. The local area has a huge variety of options from vineyards to chateaus with many of France's most beautiful villages close by. The gite is part of a grand and impressive building in a fantastic setting with private and far reaching rural views to the rear, a perfect place to sit and watch the sunset or enjoy a bite to eat.
Max and Darren are terrific hosts who run a very well equipped and thought out gite. The accommodation is extremely comfortable and welcoming especially the log burner if you are visiting out of season!
Darren and Maxine made us feel very welcome right from the moment we arrived, the wood burner was already lit and the welcome pack meant all the essentials had been provided. Tea, coffee, milk, eggs, honey, bread and a bottle of wine. As we arrived after all the shops had closed it was a real delight.
Attention to detail with a feeling of spaciousness combined with amazing views over the countryside, relaxation kicks in immediately.
When talking to the owners their passion for the property and the area is apparent, the honey they sell has a depth of flavour second to none.
The Barn was kitted out with all the necessary equipment to make our stay stress free. I would recommend this property to anyone who needed a relaxing stress free holiday.
