About the Owner
After many years exploring and enjoying the Mediterranean regions of both Greece and Turkey, in 2003 I purchased the first Ayyildiz and began making a special holiday home. As a yoga practitioner, I like to practise regularly and keep equipment at Ayyildiz for my own and my guests' use.
From the Owner
“I chose the lovely Akarca area of Fethiye, with mountain views and level walks for its accessibility. Fethiye is convenient for the airport, and also for exploring further into Turkey. Begonia apartments have easy access to both beach and town, by walking, bus or car, whilst being in a quiet residential neighbourhood. I really enjoy the 'taste of Turkey' which I experience here; the people, the food, the music. Being 'off the beaten track' its possible to just relax in the garden or by the pool and forget one's workaday life. However when I want it, there's a lively town in one direction with many delightful restaurants, bars, cafes, clubs, shops, a cultural centre, harbour, tours and more. In the other direction is the beach resort Calis and nearby, traditional village life of Gunlukbasi.”
Activity and Interests
Special interest holidays:
Yoga equipment is available for guests' personal practice whilst staying at Ayyildiz and Apollon apartments; please enquire for details.
The apartments are for people seeking a quiet relaxed holiday and, while families and groups are welcome, this is not an environment for loud noisy play or parties. As this is not a holiday complex, there are no bars on site. The garden is large with an open outlook, with only one building, and is very different from the newest developments which have several buildings facing each other across a smaller pool. The three apartments; Ayyildiz, Melek and Apollon form half of the large pretty pink villa. It has been enjoyed by those coming for a peaceful writing, study or painting break.
The sea is a level 5/7 minute walk, at the bottom of the road, and the area is popular for fishing. From there you can walk to the left along the promenade, with activities and cafes, or alternatively, right towards Calis, finding free empty beaches and others with cafes or restaurants and sunbeds. Beyond the town there are numerous bays, some sandy, some pebbly but all with crystal clear water and many ideal for snorkeling, which can be reached by the frequent minibuses or car if preferred.
The nearest airport is Dalaman, 42km, which is approximately 45 minutes drive or 50 minutes by bus. Transfers can be arranged.Or take ferry/hydrofoil from Rhodes. During your stay, you can fly Dalaman- Istanbul-Dalaman for a day out. Once in Fethiye a car is unnecessary as you can walk to all local amenities or take boats or minibuses to visit other beaches, villages and towns. There are also plenty of local taxis. Car hire is available and enables independent exploration if desired.
The apartments are not on a holiday complex but in a quiet residential part of Fethiye itself. From here it is a 20 minute walk (5 minute drive or bus ride)to the centre of Calis and approximately 30 minutes walk to Old Fethiye and harbour(5-10 minutes by car or bus). Gocek, Olu Deniz and other quiet villages and beaches are nearby and accessed by minibuses which run from the end of the road.(5 minutes walk) Buses run late into the night, enabling long day/evening outings with no need to drive.
Fethiye is situated in a bay with numerous islands which can be visited by boat trips from the harbour. Carpet shops, boutiques, restaurants and clubs are found in the old town and restaurants and bars line the promenade and harbour side. With the variety of places to eat, drink, and relax, many pleasant hours can be spent watching people, boats, and the Fethiye pelicans! Treat yourself to a Turkish bath or visit to the Turkish barber. There are also ancient Lycian rock tombs cut into the hillside and other areas of historical interest.
To our right is Calis, with its famous beach and sunsets, water park and variety of restaurants. You don't need a car, (Dolmus or public minibuses seem to go everywhere) but it can add to the holiday allowing the freedom to explore, stopping as you wish.
Travelling through the small villages around the area you will find how traditional life continues. If you prefer to explore by boat there are boat trips available from Fethiye harbour or from Calis calling at many of the islands and the bays unreachable by road. You can also take a day trip to the Greek island of Rhodes. By private car hire or via the wonderfully reliable and economic bus system, you can explore both inland for example to Kaya ('ghost')village or along the coast to the famous Olu Deniz lagoon or further to Kas and Kalkan.
In both Fethiye and Calis there are banks, supermarkets, chemists and all you need for day to day life. There is also good medical and dental care should this need arise.
On Sunday people assemble in Calis for market day and on Tuesday in Fethiye, affording the opportunity to buy some of the best local produce as well as clothes, leather goods, shoes, textiles, souvenirs etc. There is a another fresh produce market on Fridays. Mugla province is famed for its almonds, honey and thyme. The apartments are ideal for couples, friends or families, with plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay; ancient sites and modern life.

From the Owner
“When wondering where to locate, I looked at Central Fethiye and also Calis. I really enjoy being able to walk, but not hike, to most places I like to go. While central Fethiye is great, being in the midst of the lively town, there's no beach. Calis has a super beach with wonderful afternoon breezes and fabulous sunsets, but no 'town'; mainly tourist shops and restaurants. Then I found Akarca, between the two, and an easy walk to both. If I tire of walking, there's a dolmus every few minutes to take me in or back, from early morning til late at night. I also love having views and that usually means being in an upper floor apartment but all apts have super views, from the living rooms and bedrooms, including from the ground floor. I love knowing everything is nearby whilst I can feel 'away'!”

Each bedroom in Ayyildiz and Apollon has its own private balcony with seating and views. In Melek, twin bedroom also opens onto the large poolside balcony, with steps down to the garden and pool.
