Traditional rural Farmhouse Villa where you can relax in the unspoilt heart of the French countryside and adjust to a different pace of life

La Maison D’Hibou (The House of the Owl) offers spacious country living and comfortable accommodation for 10+ guests. - Ground Floor – large open living area, traditional fireplace, comfy sofas and a huge ground floor family bedroom with traditional shuttered French doors. Through hallway, past new wet room to enter large family kitchen (cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer) overlooked by a mezzanine landing. From the kitchen, door through to the new large dining room/reading room and stairs. - First floor – landing to family bathroom; 2 x twin bedrooms; 2 large individual double master ensuite-bedrooms. - Garden – the upper cottage garden has patio, pergola and trees that provide welcome shade. Side barns house a range of bicycles, patio furniture, BBQ equipment and outdoor games. The pool terrace has three timber decks and at its centre a 10x5m swimming pool (not heated). The lower garden is laid mainly to grass and gently slopes down to the fruit bushes.

About Debbie Bogusz

La Maison D’Hibou is owned by two couples, Mark & Debbie and Chris & Helen. We started visiting France over 30 years ago and immediately fell in love it. Whilst our families holidayed together in the Dordogne in 1997 we had a crazy idea about owning our own place and this has led to us being the custodians of a house standing in one of the most unspoilt corners of rural France.

We have been welcoming guests since 1999, so If you fancy a complete change, an opportunity to escape but want to keep the costs down and not travel too far, allow us to invite you your family or your friends to come and relax in the unspoilt heart of the French countryside and adjust to the LMD pace of life - Bonnes Vacances.

Why Debbie Bogusz chose Charente

Our previous holidays had taught us that France is a BIG country and when you've got kids in tow, that matters. We drew an arc on a map; this was our maximum travelling distance from the channel. We decided on the Poitou-Charentes area. This was before the explosion in ‘Place in the Sun’ type programmes and, after independently looking at a number of properties, out of nowhere came our dream house set in a peaceful hamlet.

It was a four way decision and we all had to agree – we did, and immediately fell in love with La Maison D'Hibou so on the drive home our decision was made.

What makes this house unique

I wish these words could convey the tranquil hideaway nature of the house. The pleasure of getting up and drinking your coffee whilst sitting watching the horses in the fields opposite, or of riding a bike through the gently rolling countryside as the sun climbs into the sky. These are the reasons why people value their relaxation time so much. Judging by the number of people who want to stay at LMD we are not alone in seeking quality relaxation time.

Notes on accommodation: La Maison D'Hibou is a 360 year old rural property and its doors are flung open throughout the summer period. This means that it generates a regular supply of cobwebs and spiders and no matter how often you brush them away, they will return just as promptly. Please do not be put off by this as it should not reflect the cleanliness of the property. The lower garden - laid mainly to grass and gently slopes down to the fruit bushes and range of trees. Use of the garden and pool is exclusive to guests staying at La Maison D’Hibou. Utility Room: none Other: Dining room/reading room - large room with stone walls, chestnut floor and more books and comfy chairs and family dining table. Also has double sofa bed if required.

Booking Notes:
To secure a week at LMD please contact us for conditions of hire and copy of our booking form. Please return booking form. Keys and directions will be sent two weeks before your arrival date.

Changeover Day:
LMD operates a Saturday to Saturday change-over with the rental period starting at 16.00hrs on the first day and finishing at 11.00 hrs on the last day.

Notes on prices:
The house is open for a limited number of weeks only each year (June through to September), but we are happy to consider advance or out of season enquiries. If you wish to re-book, or the weeks you would like are already taken, you can express a no-obligation interest in the following year.
