Pretty stone barn completely renovated in 2011 with stunning salt water pool

Updated: 02-Sep-2016
Stone Barn in Larroque Toirac, Lot, Midi-Pyrenees, France - Lovely Location In The Lot Valley within 5 Minutes Walk From The Lot River

Our lovely stone barn is situated in historic village of Larroque Toirac in the Lot Valley, Midi-Pyrenees with its medieval 12th Century fortified Chateau. Tastefully renovated in Spring 2011 whilst retaining original features, 2 pretty double bedrooms with comfortable double beds (plus fold out child's bed) chest of drawers/hanging rail & good lighting/mirrors. A safety gate for young children is available. Downstairs is a comfortable living & dining area with table/chairs & breakfast bar. There is a TV & DVD player & radio/cd player, plus books, DVDs & family games. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge/freezer & separate freezer & everything one could possibly need in one's own kitchen. There is a modern shower room with toilet & wash hand basin. All bed linen, towels, tablecloth/tea towels are included. Beds are made up prior to guests arriving & clean linen/towels etc are provided for their second week. The outside space consists of a split level terraced sitting/eating area with BBQ & a secluded garden at the back. 2 bikes are available for FREE use, plus a table tennis table The property offers great views and is set in a 2 acre site providing lots of quiet sitting/reading areas. The star attraction is our 10mx5m Salt Water Pool with panoramic views of the valley which has been loved by everyone. There is an additional kitchen near the pool with fridge, microwave & utensils & a solar heated shower. The pool is for the exclusive use of our gite guests between 09.30 & 14.00 & again from 16.30 to 19.30. Some flexibility can be offered by mutual agreement. Pick your own fruit from our trees...there are plenty of choices. Our large secure car park offers easy parking for more then one car or even a caravan for those touring. Just 5 minutes walk from the Lot river and lots of interesting walking paths, with "standing stones" from our doorstep....tested & recommended by our guests see our 2014 reviews. Larroque Toirac is also on a direct bus and cycling route between Figeac and Cahors (our bikes were put to good use by our guests in 2014) The Lot is also a superb wine producing area particularly for red wine. With so many beautiful villages offering Fetes/markets during the summer, the Gorges of the Lot, Aveyron and the Tarn to explore & the Grottos/Caves of Foissac, Peche Merle( with authentic cave paintings) & Padirac (with its underground river & boat trip) to visit you are spoiled for choice. Canoeing on the Lot or Dordogne river are also very popular and there is even water skiing in Cajarc. There are so many castles & churches within easy reach of our gite & there is Larroque Toirac's own fortified 12th century Castle/Chateau just a 5 minute walk away. There is so much to see & do "a week is not enough" as quoted by many of our guests. We are situated 15 minute drive from from Cajarc and Figeac and within easy driving to Villeneuve, Villefranche, St Cirq Lapopie, Conques, Rocamandour & many other beautiful towns. May, June & September are especially good for couples who enjoy swimming, walking/hiking, cycling, horse riding & weekly markets but these are good for families too. The weather is excellent from May onwards and this area is well known to the French who holiday in the Lot each year. We have had one French family who booked in 2012, 2013 & 2014.....not a bad recommendation!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

2011 was our first year and the comments were great.... we even received photos from guests by e-mail.

In 2012/13 we welcomed many English,French & Dutch guests (some back for the third time) with & without children from our other two web sites. We return to Owners Direct in 2014 & hope we will see some British Clients. May, June & Sept is a great time for those who like walking, cycling or just relaxing/sightseeing. The weather is great during these months & our prices offer real value for money incl. a POOL. What more could you wish for. Visit & you will not want to leave. Excellent comments from our 2014 guests.

A charming gite in a stunning location !

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here at the beginning of September and a lovely 9 day break . The cottage is finished to a very high standard and contains everything that you might need. The pool area is wonderful with a stunning view across the Lot valley and the little "poolhouse" even contains a kettle, fridge and microwave so that you don't need to keep going back to the gite for refreshments. We very much enjoyed having our poolside morning coffee and croissants while listening only to the sound of church bells drifting down the valley.

This was our first visit to Midi Pyrenees and it certainly wont be our last. The area is beautifully green and lush and it seems almost every village should be a contender for "Best in France"! Eating out was not expensive and we would recommend the "Bar de I'ete" in the nearby village of Beduer.

We visited Figeac, Cajarc, Rocamador, Najac and our favourite St Cirq-Lapopie.

The owners Ken and Yvonne were informative about the area and where to go and were generally extremely helpful.

We would not hesitate in recommending this property to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in this tranquil and idyllic part of France

Owner's Response: Dear Guest Thank you for your very lovely & comprehensive comments about your stay in our Gite, the description of this area of the midi Pyrenees is very poetic & your kind comments about Ken & I are much appreciated. We enjoyed the fact that you both found a balance between going out and enjoying the pool and the property. We may take a leaf out of your book & have our early morning coffee & croissants up by the pool next year. Ken says the sunrise is spectacular. Thank you again, we would love to see you back. Kind regards, Yvonne & Ken

Perfect gite, perfect holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 1 fantastic week in this charming cottage and we loved it. The cottage is beautiful, clean and very comfortable with lovely outside sitting areas. The cottage has everything you need and more and we much prefered the Lot area to the Dordogne where we've been many times before. The salt water swimming pool is stunning with breath taking views. We spent a lot of time in the pool, as our two boys (4 and 7) just loved it. It is clean and kept at a perfect warm temperature, never cold. The owners, Ken & Yvonne are two lovely and very interesting people who we loved chatting to, and they made us feel very welcomed. (Our two boys liked them so much and are still asking about them!) We are definitely going back here as it was the perfect holiday for us and there is so much more to experience in the area.

Thank you from,

Kiki, Mathew, Ellis & Frankie

Great week in the Lot Valley!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying in the Gite with our 2 children aged 6 and 8. Really nice welcome from Yvonne and Ken, who were always on hand to help, and live on the same plot of land (though we always had our privacy). The location is really convenient for exploring the Lot and Cele valleys - with plenty of river bathing and canoeing available in both - as well as the picture-perfect towns dotted around within an hour's drive. The Gite itself is well equipped and clean and the pool is absolutely fantastic and was a big hit with the kids too. Thank you Yvonne and Ken!

Fantastic Sumer Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Firstly many apologies for the late review, pressures of work and an ongoing Loft Conversion have held me up.

Upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised to see the Gite sitting next to a road in the lower half of a valley near where the River Lot passes through.

Our hosts Yvonne & Ken were two of the most charming people I have ever had the pleasure to meet and we were shown around the Gite and gardens and everything that needed to be explained was explained. To say the property was immaculate is an understatement. We had arrived on a Saturday and could find no shops open as unknown to us it was a religious festival.

On finding out this Yvonne was straight over to her fridge and insisted we took food from her to get us through until the Sunday.

The Gite itself was laid out beautifully and I cannot fault it, never once did I think oh if only they had this or why have they not got that, the kitchen was fully equipped including washing machine and dishwasher and the bathroom was of a very high standard with a fantastic shower.

The beamed lounge had a couple of comfy sofas and a tv and dvd player to boot, dvd’s are freely available from the owners upon request and there are books and board games to play.

Outside is a patio with a table and chairs and a couple of sun loungers and next to that a bbq and a gazebo to keep you shaded from the sun, which was extremely hot during our stay in August.

Up a small climb in the garden is the best part, the fantastic salt water swimming pool complete with tables chairs umbrellas and sun loungers, the pool is available to you exclusively bar two hours in the afternoon when the owners cool off for a dip, but if they are out they let you know and you have the use of it all day, it’s fantastic and a definite plus, besides the pool is a pool house with a fridge, sink and microwave and enough crockery and cutlery that you would not have to return to the main house all day other than to stock up with more supplies.

Cajarc is the nearest town where a Super Market is situated which during the summer opens on Sundays, there are various restaurants there and it is well worth a wander round for a couple of hours.

The region is an absolute delight, I’ve traveled to the Loire and Dordogne before and the Lot Valley is well worth the extra drive further south.

I cannot recommend the Gite and the Hosts highly enough and would stay there again with no hesitation.

Owner's Response: We thank Simon & his family for their comments. We do try to make our guests as comfortable as possible & provide what we feel we would need if we rented a Gite ourselves. These guests were a delight & even shared some wine & aperitif's with us on our anniversary. In the absence of family it made our day!!

A lovely place to be

  • 5 of 5

The gite was lovely and exactly as described, comfortable and homely. Yvonne and Ken are great hosts and couldn't have been more helpful and informative. It was a shame that the weather at this end of the season was too cold for swimming because the pool area was wonderfully positioned - up the sloping garden from the property with a great view across the Lot valley. It must be lovely in the Summer.

We were only able to stay for week and had by no means exhausted the local possibilities. The area is spectacularly beautiful and good for walking apart from all the other attractions - caves, castles, medieval villages and markets etc.

We would highly recommend it

Owner's Response: We are delighted with the wonderful comments made by our last guests. They too were charming and they left the property immaculate.....and were of like minds to us enjoying the area and cramming a lot into their week. We wish the weather had been warmer so we could have let them enjoy a couple of days in the pool as a special treat. Maybe one day they will be back.

Grotte de Foissac

From the Owner

We both fell in love with this area of France, a passion shared with many French who know this area very well. We have settled in and been accepted by the French and have made many friends; though we both still struggle with the language. The Lot Valley is spectacular! Come and share briefly our paradise. The scenery & the weather is fantastic and it can be as quiet or as busy as you want it to be. Wonderful market towns where one can buy fresh fruit & vegetables and lots more.
