Stonehouse Villa with Private Pool Surrounded By Vineyeards With Mountain Views

Updated: 20-Nov-2016
4 bedroom Stonehouse all en-suite bedrooms, in delightful village in Istria with private pool and gardens.

Relax and recharge at a 200 year old stone house which is surrounded by a huge covered terrace. The large oak kitchen fully equipped for all your cooking and dining requirements, including fridge with icebox, microwave and toaster. A solid oak staircase leads upstairs; to 4 double bedrooms all with en-suite shower and WC. The lounge has a wood burning stove and door leading to the terrace. The large garden is stocked with flowers, shrubs, fruit trees 2 lawns, sunbathing area by the pool and gravelled area for children to run around. A beamed pergola by the private pool is for outside dining with a stone BBQ and outside lights. There is also parking for 4 cars inside the iron gates and stone walls surround the property for safety of children. The utility room has a washing machine, dishwasher, ironing board and iron, also a separate WC and sink. All bed linen and towels are supplied. The house is cleaned once a week.

The village is delightful and so convenient for getting to all parts of Istria, only 20 minutes from the beach, 10 minutes from shops and cash point and 5 minutes from the nearest restaurant. Ancient hill tops towns are very nearby and Venetian towns and the nearest airport, Pula, is 50 minutes drive on a good motorway which is only 2 miles away. Flights from the UK take 1hour 50 minutes from Stanstead,Gatwick and other airports. Driving in from Europe is so easy with the good motorways through Italy and Slovenia.

Returning to villa after a day out sightseeing or the beach is shear bliss, with the lovely pool and garden to unwind in. You can go for a quiet walk through vineyards and small holdings to the next beautiful village with no worry of traffic.

The only noises you hear will be of the countryside - the occasional cockerel or tractor. You can buy local wine in the village and sometimes fruit and vegetables. Different traders come in vans from time to time with groceries, fish or chicken. The villa has everything you need for a totally relaxing holiday.

About the Owner

From the UK, Nigel and Shirley purchased their stonehouse in Istria, Croatia in 2005 and their first season was in 2007 opening up as a retreat, B&B. The house was rented as a villa after they returned to the UK in 2011.

We had a fantastic time!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful few days at Shirley's stonehouse villa. The villa itself is absolutely stunning, with a wonderful garden, beautiful stonework and very spacious rooms. It comes with everything you would want; a full kitchen complete with oven, fridge, toaster, kettle and microwave, about 4 different seating areas (we particularly liked the sunloungers by the pool to relax during the day and the sofas in the living room for watching films in the evening), and four very spacious ensuite bedrooms with hot showers and comfy beds. Everything was very clean and clearly well looked after, we felt very safe and secure, whilst the pool was also a real bonus. We'd also like to note a special mention to Smiljana the caretaker who made us especially welcome and answered any questions we may have had.

The village itself is very peaceful - we hardly heard any cars for the entire stay, while we took the opportunity to take a couple of evening strolls to the local villages of Cerion and Prascari. It is in very close proximity to Porec, Rovinj and Pula (with Rovinj being our absolute favourite, although all are definitely worth a visit!)

Owner's Response: Thank you for your great review, it says it all and it is how we see it too. I am so pleased you had such a great time, just a shame it was so short. We hope to see you there again sometime.

Istria is certainly a beautiful part of the world, with friendly people, and lots to see and do. The property we stayed at was lovely and spacious. We were a family of four but it could easily accommodate another couple. The pool was great. It is situated in a very peaceful village. You can buy very cheaply amazing fresh vegetables and fruit, with homegrown wine from the lovely friendly neighbours. If you are looking to get away from it all, this really is the place to come and relax. The kitchen was big with a great double oven. I suggest to stock up with food at the large supermarket in Porec (Plodine) and there is a small supermarket, in the next village for small supplies. The villa also in great proximity to explore the area by car. Grosnjan, an artists hilltop village (you can buy interesting artwork there) and Mutavun are worth a visit. Porec is about 20mins. We hired a boat in Funtana and explored the island around the coast. All in all a lovely stay - I cannot fault it.

Happy Holidays

  • 4 of 5

Nine of us spent a very enjoyable holiday here. The house was very clean and the pool was delightful. We swam every day. Smilijana who looks after the property couldn't have been more helpful. There were lots of daytrips within half an hour of the property and we particularly enjoyed the beaches at Porec, Istralandia water park, Pula and the local hilltop towns. There are some lovely restaurants locally but the only downside of this property was that you had to take the car to go for a meal as there was nowhere within walking distance. As Croatia has a zero limit for any alcohol in your system it meant that the driver could not even have one small beer. Having said that this did not spoil our holiday and the peaceful location was really lovely. There were lots of little shops in the local town where supplies could be purchased and the cost of food and eating out was very reasonable. We were very impressed with our Croatian holiday.

We enjoyed our stay in Diklici very much. The house is excellent and the pool is great. The house is located in a very small village, outside of Visnjan. A nice & quiet surrounding. But all of the interesting places in Istria are within driving distance. We especially reccommend Pula and Rovinj.

This house is really wonderful, you can relax as good as you can imagine. The only "visitors" we didn´t like were some small scorpios. And a few good cutting knives were missing in the kitchen. But all in all, it was really wonderful.

Owner's Response: Hi (Judith S) Thank you for your lovely review, we are so pleased you found the house wonderful and relaxing in this delightful village. I wonder if you found the knife sharpener in the cutlery draw which would have made all the difference to the 5 large cutting knives on the wall? It may be different to what you use in Germany, but it does the trick in sharpening the knives. Unfortunately we cannot do anything about the small visitors, but they are not poisonous and are probably very scared of people too, we just sweep them up and put them outside. We hope you will visit Diklici again in the future. Best wishes to you and your family.

From the Owner

This property is, 200 plus years old, in a lovely quiet village it has a majestic appearance at the top of the village, made of Istrian stone and is the perfect size for groups to enjoy with a large enough garden to relax in and sunbathe by the pool. The surrounding countryside is beautiful with rolling hills, vineyards and views of the sea down a quiet unmade road, perfect for walks and cycling. The village is in the heart of Istria away from the hustle and bustle of the seaside towns and traffic, but in easy reach of them and all the ancient towns. Also only 1 3/4 hours flying time from Stansted in London to Pula, which is only 50 minutes drive from the house in the village called, Diklici. Other airports are Trieste, Rijeka and Lublijana. It is easily reached by Europeans who can drive, in a few hours.

From the Owner

Beautiful egg shaped pool for your rejuvenation and private use only. The peaceful garden has fruit trees and lovely flowering borders and lawns. Your parking, inside the gates, is for 4 cars and a gravel area for exercise and children to run around inside the surrounding walls. The house inside is lovely and cool because of the thick stone walls and every room has it's own wet-room and separate toilet. The kitchen is unique, made by a craftsman of local oak, with a large double oven cooker and dinning tables. The pergola has a large seating area and stone BBQ with outside lighting and the house is surrounded by a wide terrace for outside dining. All aspects of Istria are within easy reach, the sea is 20 minutes drive away. Groznjan and Motovun the ancient hill top towns 10 minutes drive. The neighbours are very friendly and will often offer to show you around their small holdings with a taste of local wine and prsut (parma ham). Walking or cycling through the surrounding vineyards to the next village is delightful.
