About mme Ward

We are John and Glyn and have lived here since 1998. John has his own business here project managing for people purchasing their dream homes. And between us we run a B & B and the gîte. We purchased our first house (or ruin)! in 1994. Slowly restoring the 15th century manor house and in the process decided to make the move to France in 1998.

After finally finishing our gorgeous home we then went on to buy our present house which needed a lot of work to bring it back to life and a place where people would want to come and stay.We worked had to restore and decorate the rooms and then of course the 'petite cottage' which is lovely and in the best spot in the grounds.

We have 1 lovely dog,Flo and 2 cats, Lily & Cyd who will often want to come and visit you!

mme Ward purchased this cottage in 2005

Why mme Ward chose Vienne

We were looking for a B & B and decided to buy this wonderful 17th century house which is in need of total restoration. The west wing of the manor house already had a 'gîte' that needed to be renovated and a kitchen added. It was all pretty dreadful before!

The bed and breakfast is in another property in the same grounds, so we are always on hand to help. The surrounding countryside is so pretty and very quiet and peaceful, but we are not far from civalisation.

What makes this cottage unique

From the park we can go for walks with our dogs to the pretty countryside, without having to worry about traffic. There is 'le ligne vert' which is a disused rail track which has been adapted for walkers and cyclists, so you can walk or cycle for about 30 or so kilometers. It's fairly flat and really enjoyable and we often see deer grazing in the fields, which are full of sunflowers in the summer. From the house we can walk to the village which has all commerce and a wonderful bakers.

It's well situated to profit from the countryside, visit châteaux and other many attractions, or just simply relax.

What more could you ask for.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are all leaving this gite feeling very rested and fulfilled.

Next time we will be booking for 2 weeks as one was not enough!

John & Glyn have renovated this site into an absolute gem! The gite has all you need and more "home from home" and the visits from the cats & dogs made the entire experience even more enjoyable.

We will sorely miss not just the gite but it's breathtaking surroundings. We will return to our home town - Bristol, feeling chilled, well rested & gratful for the sunny weather we had!

Smashing gîte

  • 5 of 5

The gîte was very comfortable, set in very large, beautiful grounds. It had a authentic rustic feel and was warm and clean. We had our baby with us and high chair and travel cot were helpfully provided. There were plenty of towns and villages to visit and the village itself was lovely, with a really good bakery. All in all a lovely relaxing trip and very pleasant owners too.

Excellent holiday

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful week spent at this fantastic Gite. Beautifully appointed and maintained Gite with great outdoor dining and seating areas. The heated pool was a real bonus and enjoyed by Us all. Great peaceful location in village, but with plenty of interesting places/lots to do without travelling too far. Very welcoming and attentive hosts, respecting our privacy, yet very approachable for good advice and info re the local area.

We had an excellent weeks holiday and are already organising to return for 2 weeks in 2016.

Lovely holiday gite in quiet rural France.

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week in this charming gite. It is well appointed, clean and well maintained..Glyn & John are lovely hosts. They have recently installed a swimming pool which we had shared use of and it was lovely and warm, clean and very safe, with an alarm to activate when it wasn't used. This worked well and can give families peace of mind.

We were told about nearby attractions and also ate at Le Savignois restaurant one evening in nearby Savigny sous Faye. This was superb- we were so well looked after and had fantastic food!

If you want a tranquil holiday in lovely surroundings, where there is a village to walk into for your morning bread and croissants, this is the one!

Beautiful cottage, super pool, lovely hosts

  • 5 of 5

This really is a delightful cottage, brimming with character, set in such an interesting and atmospheric park and butted up to an intriguing manor house. We were very comfortable here throughout our holiday and really enjoyed messing about in, and relaxing next to, the smashing pool. Glyn and John made us feel very welcome and were always on hand to help with anything we needed. We liked exploring the nearby parc de loisir de Guesnes and the lady in the tourist office in the village was very helpful too. We had a lovely stay and were really sad to leave.

Charming gite

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxing week staying in this lovely gite. It's full of character with charming decor, and had everything we needed. We made full use of the pretty garden, often having our meals outside. The owners were very helpful and we became quite attached to their 2 friendly old dogs. It is a good location for visiting chateaux in the area, and nearby towns such as Richelieu and Loudun. The bakery in the village is excellent, and we had a delicious meal at the local restaurant, Le Cheval Blanc.

We had a fabulous holiday.

This gite is full of character and style. It's really nicely furnished with lovely linens and materials. It was completely quiet, so we slept very well indeed. We also enjoyed using the kitchen which has everything you need and eating in our area of the garden, surrounded by lavender and buzzing bees.

The hosts are just lovely and full of good ideas for things to do in the area.

We shall be returning!
