We had a wonderful time at this property.
The barn is spacious, cool and very well provisioned. We were looked after well by the local agents Sally and David, with fresh laundry every week and frequent cleaning of the pool. The garden is very secluded, with good options for shade and the pool ideal when it's hot. Ols is small with no bar or boulangerie but Villneuve, a wonderful walled Bastille town, is only 7 kilometres away with all the necessary amenities. Ols is also well located to explore the local region, which has a fascinating history and plenty of things to do and explore. We'd really recommend staying here.

First Rate , A Fantastic Holiday
The Barn was beautiful and fully lived up to the description given , and indeed we would go so far as to say it far exceeded our expectations . A beautiful house in a beautiful location , the best house we have ever stayed in on our many French holidays . Very well equipped both inside and out , caters very well for families with small children . We were really blessed with the weather for our fortnight and the plunge pool was a god send .
The house was very clean and being supplied with plenty of towels is a great help .We stayed in quite a lot , visiting the local markets and cooking at home . If you want to travel very light then there are already books , dvd's a selection of music and games for all to play .
Dined al fresco every night on the verandah , very peaceful and private . We were able to really chill out and relax at this property . The countryside is stunning , and right beside us we could walk along the roadside and pick ripe plums and apples off overhanging trees .
Lost power one night for @ half an hour , but there were candles aplenty and even a little maglite torch .
There is horse riding , canoeing , walking and of course the local markets . We would highly recommend this property to anyone , except possibly out and out partygoers ! !
The property manager was very helpful and informative .
We are already talking about returning next year to spend our tenth wedding anniversary there .
From the Owner
“As an architect I was looking for a project renovating a lovely stone building into a holiday home. Having researched many areas of France we discovered Aveyron and the Lot valley. It combines rural peace, spectacular scenery, historic towns and wonderful cuisine. Then we found the hamlet of Ols with a lovely old barn for sale. The house in Ols has been a very enjoyable project. Designing the barn conversion to be cool in summer and warm in winter has been great fun. As has working with local builders. The residents of the hamlet of Ols have been very welcoming and we got married there in 2009. It's rural France at its most idyllic. The girls are now at school in England and we can no longer spend prolonged holidays in Ols so began letting our holiday home a few years ago.”
Activity and Interests
Lovely river beaches on the Lot and Cele. Forty minutes drive.
Ten hours drive from channel ports. One hour drive from Rodez or Brive airports, two hours from Toulouse airport, three hours fom Bergerac airport. Use of a car is essential.
10 km from the river Lot. Kayaks for hire in many locations. Water skiing at Cajarc. 5km fom the beautiful bastide town of Villeneuve. Twenty minutes drive from historic Villefranche-de-Rouergue, half an hour from Figeac an hour from St Cirq-Lapopie. In winter there is skiing on Plomb de Cantal about one hour's drive.
Aveyron is not well known in England. But it is the home of Roquefort Cheese, Laguiole knives, Michel Bras' restaurant (reputedly one of the best in France), The Millau Viaduct, limestone causse(moors) with stunning gorges and unspoilt bastide towns.
All local services and shops in Villeneuve. Fabulous restaurants all around. The Bastide towns have festivals throughout the summer. Ols has a big party in the Salle de Fetes in mid July. Markets are held in Villefranche(very big) on Thursdays, Cajarc (small, shady and wonderful) on Saturdays and Villeneuve on Sunday mornings and intermittent Mondays. Sampling the local cheeses and local wines of Cahors, Gaillac and Marcillac in the markets is a lovely way to idle away a morning.
Marked walking trails and Grande Randonnee are nearby. Hire of cycles and kayaks are also available nearby. Horse riding is also available.
The word famous prehistoric Pech Merle caves are forty minutes away. The area has numerous prehistoric remains and caves. The stunning historic villages of St Cirq-Lapopie, Conques and Belcastel are all within easy reach. There are chateaux in abundance.

“Ols a very friendly community. Everyone knows us and takes the time to call round with local produce and for a chat. In summer it is hot in the day and warm at night. Nights eating outside and spotting shooting stars (no light pollution) in absolute stillness are just indescribable. In other seasons if it gets cold the wood burning stove is very cosy. Walking and cycling from the front door is easy. There is immediate access to quiet rural roads and walking trails. It is very safe for children. The river Lot and Saturday market at Cajarc and the numerous local night markets (Cheap food and music) are favourites. As are the local cheeses and wine. The nearest town (village really) Villeneuve is lovely. A beer at the bar des Arcades is highly recommended.”
