Apartment in Castelforte, Latina, Italy - Located In A Small Town Close To Shops, Bars And Restaurants, And 15 Minutes To The Nearest Beach
A spacious, modern, 2 double bedroom, 2 bathroom, ground floor apartment with large front terrace. Modern fitted kitchen and large open plan living and dining room, with doors opening onto the front terrace. Castelforte is a friendly town with many bars restaurants and shops. The locals are extremely friendly and the local food is some of the best you'll taste in Italy with prices to match! The best Mozarella Di Buffala comes from this area. This is a real Italian town not 'designer Italy'! The towns of Formia and Gaeta are nearby and are great for beaches and shopping. We are only a 15 minute drive to the nearest golden sandy beach of Scauri and a short drive to the spectacular Abruzzi Mountains with many pretty hilltop towns. The area is steeped in history, from the Via Appia in Minturno with its Roman Amphitheatre to the famous Abbey of Monte Cassino, 30 minutes away. Rome, Naples and Pompeii are easy to get to by road or train.

About The Owner
My husband was born and brought up in Castelforte, where he still has friends and family, and left Italy to work in England. My grandparents were originally from Cassino. We have decided to rent out our holiday home in Castelforte as many of our friends have stayed with us and have enjoyed the area. It is very Italian and the only people who holiday there are Italian, you would have to know someone from the area to have found it. It is certainly not as expensive as Tuscany, Umbria or the Amalfi coast, but things could change in the future as people are always looking for the next undiscovered place to go. My husband is well known in the town and you will only have to mention his name to bar and restauarant owners to find you will be warmly welcomed.
Why The Owner chose Latina Province
We built the property which consist of 3 apartments 20 years ago. The 2 other apartments are rented to local people. The property has been in the family for many years originally built by my father in law.
What makes this apartment unique
We love the proximity to the beaches, the local markets and the fact that you can walk to the bars and shops. The weather is particularly good in this part of Italy. We love the shopping in the nearby towns and the closeness to all major airports as it makes it easy for us to pop over whenever we feel like it. Also Rome is served by all low cost airlines so it is economical to get to.

This apartment was better than described on their property page. When we arrived, we just thought it was idyllic. It is situated in the hillside town of Castelforte between Naples and Rome which has easy access to the motorways/dual carriageways. We flew into Naples and hired a car, which was a must for this holiday and were provided with helpful directions from the property owner prior to arrival. The facilities in the apartment were second to none and could not have wished for anything else. There were a couple of restaurants to choose from in the town, though I believe that more have since opened and unfortunately, one that was recommended was undergoing refurb at the time we were there. There was a meat restaurant, Bacchettone e Zazza, which is a 5 minute drive away. This place is a must visit and you can have a wonderful choice of starters, pastas and meats cooked to perfection. If you want the real authentic Italian family experience then go to Il Chiattone. They don't have a written menu, but they have a set menu, for a set price for the whole menu, where you get brought a selection of local starters, then a choice of pasta dishes and if you have room after that, then meat with salad. The real treat is their homemade wine and limoncello! If you want to visit Rome, the train station is a 10 minute drive away. For Pompeii and Herculaneum, you can drive there and car parks are located nearby. A must place to go is Monte Cassino with a visit to the Abbey, which is a site of great historical interest. If you like both chocolate and ice-cream, then go to Cioccolati Italiani in Monte Cassino, where there is an extensive choice of desserts, coffees and ice-creams. Castelforte is place for a more adventurous tourist who wants to experience the true Italy. I would easy recommend the apartment and the owners could not have been more helpful in making our holiday a perfect one. I hope that any visitor enjoys it as much as we did.
Beautiful apartment with everything you would expect provided + more.
Helpful advice from the owner & locals very friendly towards us. Local feste both religious & wine very interesting & entertaining during our one week stay. Car required though ideally not too large as parking requires care. Restaurants, bars & shops within walking distance.
Don't miss the beach, Monti Cassino but particularly Alberto Russo's Enoteca La Vigne. Lovely man selling great wine who gave us tastings as well as weather report. Would not hesitate to recommend the apartment.

Activity and Interests
There are miles of sandy beaches in the area. The nearest is at the Marina di Minturno an easy 15 minute drive away. There are also beaches at Scauri, Gaeta and Sperlonga. Most Italian beaches have Lidos, and beach clubs that have bars and facilities. We can arrange a discount at one of our favourite lidos where the owner speaks good English. Alternately, there are public sections of all beaches where the access is free and we have our own umbrellas and beach chairs for your use.
We are 1 hour 45 minutes drive from Rome Ciampino airport, which has many flights with Easyjet and Ryan Air. About 30 minutes longer from Rome Fuimicino. Naples Capodichino is about 1 hour 30 minutes away. The nearest railway station is at Minturno about 15 minutes away. A car is essential to visit this part of Italy as many interesting places are only acssesable by car.
The apartment is in the town of Castelforte and only a short walk to the main street. The larger town of Formia is 30 minutes away as is Cassino. There are many smaller pretty towns and villages nearby such as Suio situated on the river Garigliano which is famous for it`s mineral water. The old Roman Appian way is at Minturno where there is an amphitheatre which stages concerts in the summer months. Rome, Naples and Pompei are in easy reach especially by train which is very cheap.
There are a great many restaurants in the area and the local food is superb and very reasonable compared to Tuscany or Umbria. Mozarella di Buffala is made locally and the area is the most famous for it. Cassino, Formia and Gaeta are great for shopping. Formia is a port with daily departures to the unspoiled islands of Ponza and Ventotene. The swimming and snorkelling is fantastic in the crystal clear water. These are the last unspoiled islands in the Med and are an easy day trip away. The town of Cassino with the Abbey of Monte Cassino are a short drive away. Not to be missed if only to appreciate the horror of the battle during world war 2. The Abbruzzi mountains are an easy drive to escape the summer heat. There are some pretty hilltop towns and villages to explore with stunning mountain scenery. During July and August there are many festivals and sagras in the town and the town is buzzing at night when all the local people come out for a passegiata! There are folk festivals, free concerts and even donkey racing!
