Granite Farmhouse with Extensive Rural Views, South Facing

Updated: 22-Oct-2016
Farmhouse in Langourla, Nr. Dinan/Lamballe, Cotes D'Armor, Brittany - Peaceful Location, 35 minutes from the Coast

The stunning stone Farmhouse stands on top of a hill looking out over beautiful views to the South and the West. To the rear, within a very short walking distance, is a beautiful large forest, Forêt De Boquen, steeped in history and where you can visit the Abbaye de Boquen. To the East lies the village of Langourla which has a bar/tabac, village shop, Church and also a beautiful lake and outdoor theatre. The Farmhouse itself is unusual in the fact that all the rooms are light and airy giving you a real flavour of Brittany at its best. Within a short drive you can visit Saint Brieuc which has all the major shops and commercial center, the market town of Lamballe which has a beautiful town square and a river running through the center and Dinan which is steeped in history and has its own castle and medieval old town, even the capital of Brittany, Rennes, is only 40 minutes away. To the South there is the town of Josselin which has the magnificent Château and gardens.

About the Owner

After working for ourselves for many years in the UK, we arrived in France in January 2006 with our two children for a less stressful life and a new refreshing adventure for the children. They have now finished their education and have blended well into the French culture beautifully. Our son is now a qualified electrician and our daughter has moved into retail, while we are enjoying the idyllic lifestyle that Brittany offers.

Peaceful and very well equipped and maintained

  • 5 of 5

This was our third visit after a gap of 4 years and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves again although a single week was not enough! Gary and Debbie were extremely friendly and helpful and my children especially enjoyed interacting worth the animals.

There is plenty to do in the area (we re-visited some places in addition to new trips) none of which were more than an hours gentle drive away.

No doubt we will be back at some point again because we have always enjoyed our time at the house.

Well Equipped and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This farmhouse is in a truly rural location, surrounded on all sides by fields. Debbie and Garry live on the same site, and were extremely welcoming on our arrival, They offered useful advice on local attractions and the surrounding area but in no way intruded on our privacy. The large kitchen / dining room is exceptionally well equipped, and the lounge has ample comfortable seating. Upstairs the airy bedrooms offer spectacular views over the surrounding farmland and the bathrooms are clean and functional. The small garden is ideal for sitting out, with shade available if needed.

Northern Brittany has plenty to offer. The local town of Collinee has a small supermarket, and further afield Lamballe offers a huge E.Leclerc. The old towns of Dinan and St Malo are within reasonable driving distance, and are well worth a visit. A drive along the north coast gives views over some lovely beaches, and there are a few historic buildings also nearby. The Chateau at Bienassis is interesting, but the tour of the house is always accompanied by a guide and was in rather rapid French, so that much of the detail was missed. Mont St Michel on the north coast is a must, and parking and access to the town are now extremely well organised. However, in the summer the place is extremely crowded.

Market day (Thursday) in Lamballe was a spectacular experience, with hundreds of stalls throughout the town. Regrettably the market takes over the largest car park in town, so finding somewhere remotely legal to park can be demanding.

La Croix St Gilles is a lovely property, and its equipment and location mean that we can thoroughly recommend it.

Excellent farmhouse and location

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time staying at Debbie and Garry's property. The farmhouse was lovely - the children loved feeding the geese, chickens and fish and it was just what we needed after a busy week at Disneyland Paris. We would thoroughly recommend it. Garry and Debbie were very helpful during our stay with hints and tips on where to go and the location of the property lends itself to exploring Brittany and its wonderful coastline and beaches - most approx an hour away. We hope to return sooner rather than later!

From the Owner

The Farmhouse is in an ideal location, brilliant for all round access for all your needs, but, although in a tranquil country setting, it is easily accessible to medieval towns with lots to explore, walks around beautiful lakes, fantastic ports and inlets, deserted beaches and magnificent forests that go on and on. It has a very healthy climate, with plenty of clean fresh air. We love it here and hope you will too.

From the Owner

The Farmhouse is light and airy with wonderful views across the countryside. You can visit many places of interest and then return to the comfort and all mod cons that the farmhouse has to offer. At night the sky is absolutely brilliant with all the stars due to no light pollution and you can listen to the owls and nature.
