In a truly idyllic and secluded location amid open countryside, with spectacular views across fields, moors and along Little Fryup Dale, this detached stone farmhouse dating back to the 1800s has been carefully and imaginatively converted providing very comfortable accommodation. The rooms are spacious, light and airy with stunning views from almost every window, and the large sitting room with open fire is perfect for relaxing in. Walks for all abilities can be taken from the doorstep.

About the Owner

Forrester's Lodge is owned by the Dawnay Family as part of the Danby and Liverton Estate, Danby was purchased in 1656 from the Earl Danvers, but previously had formed part of the Latimer (subsequently Neville) holdings. Sir William Neville was married to Catherine Parr (the last surviving wife of King Henry VIII).

The Dawnay Estate comprises two landholdings situated about 35 miles apart; Wykeham near Scarborough and Danby near Whitby, both in North Yorkshire.

The Danby and Liverton Estate is essentially a 11,500 acre grouse moor and a further 3,000 acres of let hill farms, Danby Castle (to include the Court and Jury Rooms), the Moors Centre (former sporting lodge – Danby Lodge) and approximately five miles of the upper reaches of the River Esk (salmon and sea trout fishing).

I just wanted to drop you a quick line to we have had a fantastic holiday, the house is stunning, far beyond what we were expecting ( the pictures don't do it justice) the kids were so happy as they had the freedom of being able to go along the lane and see and hear all the different animals around, we had lovely days out in beautiful surroundings, we all just wanted to say a massive thank you from The Cooper and Ferris Clan...xx

Fantastic hidden gem

We have just had a fantastic family holiday here. The age group ranged from 3 to 63 with 12 of us staying the weekend.

From the outset things were looking positive with good communication from the property manager who answered all of our questions and gave us great ideas.

The property is beautiful and well equipped, the beds were very comfy, so much so that I'm upgrading my own bed after staying in theirs.

Access was as described and once you are there you are in a world of your own, so private and with breathtaking views. We travelled when it was very wet but this did not have a negative impact on the place.

We, like other reviewers, had the shopping delivered direct after doing an online Asda shop. This saved us a lot of hassle.

The house has more than enough bathrooms and toilets. Lots of the rooms are en-suite and it was very warm. The fire is also a great fire.

We will definitely return, hopefully in the summer.

Excellent holiday

A family of 10 stayed for the half term week in this lovely property. It has amazing views with every room having so many windows. It was very well equipped in the kitchen and every where else really. It was spacious enough with a lovely big lounge and open fire. Plenty of fridge/freezer space we certainly needed it after Tesco had delivered! Whitby is certainly worth visiting and Robin Hoods Bay. We would definitely come back.

Danby

The Forresters Lodge was a 1st class house in a beautiful position in N Yorkshire. Lots of walking and not far to some beautiful beaches and villages. Ideal holiday location for 8 family members with children.

The Dawnay Family have owned this property since it was built in around 1830! Several alterations and modernisation have created the comfortable home it is now.

Coast/Beach:

The heritage coast at Whitby is a 20 minute drive away. Other pretty fishing villages and secluded beaches are also close by.

Further Details:

Well behaved dogs are welcome, but be aware that the house is located in amongst fields with livestock (cattle and sheep). There are two outdoor kennels available. Please refrain from letting the dogs upstairs or on the furniture.

  • Notes on accommodation: Furnished in a Country House style this fully centrally heated properrty is cosy in winter and cool in summer. Adequately equipped and comfortably furnished for a full compliment of guests, visitors can relax in the large lounge or the more energetic may wish to cycle or walk on the nearby moors or along Eskdale to Whitby. Outside: A pretty and well maintained garden surrounds the house equipped with outdoor furniture and BBQ. Private parking for up to 10 cars. Utility Room: There is a seperate drying room/utility room in an exterior building with a drying room/boot room for drying waterproofs etc. Chest freezer is also located here. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included. For those wishing to stay two weeks, a mid stay linen change is included. Other: Dining room with seating for a full party of ten people. High chair also available.
