A charming 16th Century grade II listed cottage in an attractive Cotswold village, within an area of outstanding natural beauty. A wonderful mixture of ancient and modern, with exposed beams and open fire, but also gas central heating, WiFi internet, flat screen TV, dishwasher and washing machine. Great centre for discovering this most attractive part of England, with its sleepy stone villages and interesting market towns. Also good for walkers, birdwatchers, cyclists, theatre/opera goers and those interested in historical buildings. Close to Bourton on the Water, Broadway, Chipping Campden, Chipping Norton and within 45 mins drive of Oxford, Stratford on Avon and Cheltenham. Note: This is a no smoking property.
We are a professional couple with 3 school age children who bought this lovely cottage in December 2009 as a weekend / holiday home. We spent most of 2010 renovating and re-furbishing it, so that it is now a well equipped 'home from home' which we use regularly ourselves.
Mike Rouse purchased this cottage in 2009
The peaceful location with convenient local amenities and proximity to great walks and easy access to a huge variety of local attractions and activities for both children and adults.
The layout of the cottage means that we can enjoy a restful time in front of the open fire while the children are occupied in the attic room with their music games and TV etc. - they just love coming here.
It is so convenient having a well run shop, cafe and cosy country pub serving great food on the doorstep.
"Thank you for sharing your charming cottage, It was so wonderful to walk to the Opera! This was the perfect setting for our vacation. The village is delightful - everyone was so friendly and helpful, we hope to return soon." ( B,J & S Atlanta & Boston).
"Thank you for what proved to be the perfect venue for our first family holiday with our baby. The cottage and village were simply delightful! Memorable moments included BBQ Donnington Trout in the garden. We especially appreciated the super books and maps." The F. Family, Hendon)
"Thank you so much for a brilliant week. I love your cottage! Your guest information was invaluable - we used your maps and books to go on some great walks. (The J Family, Harpenden)
" The Cottage was lovely, the kitchen very well equipped and a pleasure to cook in, as I love to cook. The bathrooms were a very high standard too. The cottage was lovely to stay in and very well located for all I wanted to do with the children. Thanks ! " (JT - Dubai)
One of the best-equipped cottages you will find, and really cozy even in December. Located in a lovely village with friendly locals, and perfectly located for all the points of interest in the Northern Cotswolds. There's plenty of parking space, but you don't really need the car if you have a decent pair of boots as several long-distance paths run through Longborough itself. And only about a couple of hours from London, making for a very relaxing weekend.
Our family of four (with two young children) stayed for a week. Mike (the owner) was great to deal with - very prompt responses to email queries and making suggestions for things we might find useful or wish to know. So booking was very easy and straightforward.
The cottage itself is cosy and character-filled. Being February, we were delighted with the open fire, the central heating, and the thick stone walls to keep us warm. The kitchen is very well equipped and the bathroom is modern, and the house was clean and well presented. Our girls loved the loft room and there were plenty of DVD's and CD's to amuse us. There is a huge amount of information about the local area, books, maps, guides for exploring. And a very detailed guide to the cottage itself and recommendations from the owners.
The best thing about the cottage is the location - in the village itself, just uphill is the local pub (the Horse and Groom - a Donnington Brewery pub) and just downhill, is the local village shop and cafe - which is more than just a village shop as it's run by the community and mostly volunteers. Definitely worth a daily visit. There's also a playpark just down the hill.
And the location in the Cotswolds too - very central for many of the main sights we wanted to explore.
The cottage is very nicely built, with all modern cons, including numerous maps of the area, good library and DVD collection and guides about the local shopping. the village itself is beautiful and people - nice. the owner was extremely efficient and helpful in communications. we enjoyed our stay!
