About the Owner

We have owned La Blanchere for 18 years now and love the house and the area. Our children love it too and have over the years taken lots of their friends there, we now have grand children to enjoy it which is why we have decided to up grade the pool to a heated salt filtration, wooden sided above ground pool. We play tennis, walk, cycle on the old railway line and numerous cycleways, and of course enjoy the numerous and varied restaurants especially those down on the coast which are open all the year round. We also love cooking and eating at home, we ran a restaurant in Dorset for 20 years, so we have a gas BBQ and also a built in charcoal one with a chimney.

We had great weather so made full use of all the amenities. The house was brill for all the family and the pool and garden were a joy to spend our time in. A Fantastic Farmhouse

We had a fantastic holiday staying in this wonderful farmhouse. There was 8 of us which included four adults and four children so the bedrooms worked out perfect! The house had everything we needed to allow us to have a great stay. Plenty of garden furniture to enjoy sitting in the lovely garden, including a great dining out area at the back! The four children loved the pool which was big enough for each one of them to play on a large inflatable each. The area is so peaceful, with some wonderful country lanes for great bike rides. The owner very helpful and friendly and was easy to contact on the house phone. We had a couple of minor problems which the owner sorted straight away. Would highly recommend this house, it really is a great place to stay.

Comfortable house in peaceful countryside

We had a lovely week in this comfortable house in peaceful countryside. Apart from birdsong and some tractor noises it was extremely quiet. Being someone's second home and not just a rental property the house has everything you could want, even good beds. The pool is small but delightful and there are pleasant views over fields towards a small lake. The owner is very friendly and helpful. No butcher or greengrocer in the nearest village (rather unexpected in France)but there are at least two good bakers and the supermarket is very nearby, though for fresh produce local markets are the best bet. There's plenty to do if you can tear yourself away from the house and pool; we particularly loved the bird reserve at Cite des Oiseaux, Les Landes-Genusson.

Great time

Very well equipped house with plenty of space for six adults plus a dog. Extremely good service provided by the owner and lots of details of places to visit at the house. Lovely, peaceful surroundings. Although it didn't bother us, it's quite a way from the village and you really need the car but if you want to just chill out, it's ideal. For dog owners, there is a really friendly vet in the village - as this was the first time we had taken our dog abroad, we weren't sure what to expect. The restaurant by the lake at Apremont does great seafood and the most enormous burgers I've ever seen! The only slight problem we had was that one of our party suffers from hay fever and she found it very bad while there.

Very pleasant cottage, kitchen amenities very good. Seating could have been more comfortable and the TV is far too old. Garden lovely, patio marvellous, great for the dog.

Has everything you could possibly want. Lots for children of all ages to do in the games room, pool and bikes. Our ages ranged from 70 to 2 and we all enjoyed the facilities.

Near by is a beach and activities at the lake at Apremont. Parc des Dunes at Bretignolles, and seeing trebuchet firing at Chateau Tiffauges are also good fun for younger children.

A great place to stay

We really enjoyed our stay here, it is a well situated country cottage in a very rural setting in the small hamlet of La Blanchere. Very well equipped Cottage. Table Tennis, Table Soccer, Darts, small pool actually larger than the photos depict. Various sized bikes for countryside cycle rides. Lovely beaches approximately 30 minutes drive. Comfortable beds, we slept very well for our entire stay. Nice family lounge/kitchen area for relaxation in the evening. Plenty of outdoor seating & 2 BBQ's for relaxing in the sunshine. Great communication with the owner, who is very helpful & friendly, rang us after a couple of days to check we were all ok & settled in.

We would highly recommend this Cottage for Families or people looking for total relaxation. In conclusion; we had a fantastic time and may well return!

We advise visiting the Puy de Fou theme park for a great day out and also Planete Sauvage which is a great safari park with an incredible dolphin show.

We love the peace and quiet, yet the house is within easy reach of all amenities and the coast which we love to go to out of season. It is a very french area with fewer English people, (slightly more now) and we have made good friends with several of the locals, they even invited us to their daughter's wedding. It is easy to reach from the channel ports on dual carriage ways with only 1.90 euros of autoroute to pay.

Wonderful long sandy west coast beaches are 25 minutes away by car. St Gilles croix de Vie is a lively town on the coast with restaurants to suit all.

Bretinoilles has 2 wonderful restaurants with sea views over little rock pools where surfers congregate.


A car is essential. Distance from St Malo is 180 miles, 2 & half hours easy driving dual carriage way only 1.90 euros of tolls. Cherbourg is 4 hours and Caen a little less.

Nantes airport is 45 mins away & La Rochelle is over 1 hour depending on traffic.


Le Poire Sur Vie is 4 minutes away with large supermarket, indoor swimming pool, restaurants, bakeries & large lake with childrens play area.

Aizenay is 5 minutes away, in the other direction, with larger supermarket, wine cave, restaurants, outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, lovely forest to walk in with children's little zoo, and adventure biking area.

Further Details:

The Puy de Fou, the largest adventure theme park in Europe is approximately 30 minutes away.

We enjoy the space and the big games barn means lots of games of table tennis. With the south facing patio we can sit out in the evening long into the night getting extra warmth from the walls of the house. In late April/May you can hear the nightingales sing and of course the cuckoo later in the spring, prompting one of our guests to call the house the cuckoo house.
