Bungalow in Newcastleton, Scottish Borders, Scotland - Close To Village Amenities, Excellent Location For Touring Scottish Borders And North England

Staffin is a located in the heart of the village of Newcastleton, supposedly voted the friendliest village in Scotland! The village is famous for its annual traditional music festival and an "alternative" Common Riding, both of which take place in early July. It is also only a few kilometres from the world renowned 7stanes mountain biking trails. As Newcastleton lies so close to the English border it is ideally positioned for exploring the English Lake District and the beautiful county of Northumberland. Closer to home, Hermitage Castle and Kielder Reservoir are well worth a visit. The village has happily retained its local shops including an excellent butchers and a bakery. There are also 2 excellent tea room/bistros and two fantastic restaurants.

This was our 2nd visit to Staffin. lovely bungalow in newcastleton , beautiful village, friendly people & we visit here as we have friends in the village.

Well maintained by the owners who are very helpful at all times & a pleasure to make contact with.

We will be making visits here in the future whenever we can!

From the Owner

I grew up in Newcastleton so it is great now to own a holiday home in the village so that we can still keep in touch with family and friends. It is in a beautiful area surrounded by rolling hills so there are lots of opportunities for walking and other outdoor pursuits. We love to go there just to relax and unwind.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Restaurant : Copshaw Kitchen at 100 Metres Car: recommended


Newcastleton is approximately 40 minutes from the M6 motorway and less than 2 hours from Glasgow or Edinburgh airports. A car is essential in order to fully appreciate the area.


Glasgow or Edinburgh 2 hours. Carlisle 40 minutes. Kielder Reservoir 40 minutes. Alnwick 2 hours. Newcastle 1 hour 40 mins.

Staffin is in an excellent location for visiting Edinburgh and Glasgow (both under 2 hours drive), the English Lake District, Northumbria (beautiful beaches, Alnwick Castle), Kielder Reservoir (numerous activities incl. water sports), and of course the famous abbeys of the Scottish Borders. Newcastleton is famous for its annual traditional music festival and its alternative "Common Riding" (both held in first weekend of July). There is also a world-famous mountain biking course in the forest just behind the village, with tracks to suit all abilities.

  • Notes on accommodation: As the house has no stairs it is particularly suited to those with mobility problems. The garden is not enclosed so care should be taken with small children. There is private parking for two cars to the rear of the property plus parking at the front on the street. Bedroom 1 is spacious enough to accommodate a travel cot. No smokers and no pets. Outside: There is a patio (with table and chairs) to the rear of the house and a small gravelled garden. The garden is not enclosed as there is a parking area accessible from the side lane. There is a rotary clothes drier. Utility Room: Has a washing machine and a hanging rail to dry clothes etc. Large cupboard with ironing board/iron. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided. For stays of more than a week, linen and towels may be changed for a small fee.
