Cottage in Les Croux, Monbazillac, Aquitaine / Dordogne, France - Gite Set In Spacious Grounds Leading To Vineyards. Secluded And Peaceful. Bergerac 10 Mins By Car
This stone built cottage consists of a large living room with a kitchen and dining area, one bedroom and a bathroom. It is attached to our traditional Perigordine farmhouse, but still maintains its independence. Situated on a plateau at the edge of the village of Monbazillac, it is an idyllic spot to sample the pleasures that the Dordogne has to offer and is conveniently located just 7 minutes from Bergerac airport. It has a lovely heated swimming pool (13m x 6m), shared with the owners, set below a rockery and not overlooked by the main house. One can walk through vines and woodland without leaving the property. The village of Monbazillac is quiet, dominated by its 16th century chateau and famous vineyards. Ten minutes away by car is the town of Bergerac, full of shops, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, and of course, the beautiful old town (complete with Cyrano statues) and riverside port. There are markets on most days in the bastide towns, and night markets in the summer for local outdoor eating and drinking.

Wat een heerlijke plek!
We hebben het enorm naar onze zin gehad, niet in de laatste plaats door de hartelijke ontvangst door de eigenaar. De gite is van alle gemakken voorzien en het terrein, met het zwembad, is prachtig. We komen hier zeker terug!
From the Owner
“The Dordogne area is already renowned for its gastronomic delights, especially the wine! We chose our house for its unique location - very close to Bergerac and its facilities, but at the same time completely secluded from neighbouring properties and roads.”
Activity and Interests
Special interest holidays:
We organise music events from time to time, with established artists flying over for private concerts.
The Atlantic beaches of Lacanau and Arcachon are 2 hours drive, and 3 hours will take you to the Basque coast of Biarritz, St Jean de Luz and San Sebastian in Spain.
Bergerac airport is just 10 minutes down the hill, with flights to London Stansted, Bristol, Southampton, East Midlands, Liverpool, Birmingham and Paris. Bordeaux airport is about 90 minutes away Gatwick, Dublin, and many international destinations. The Brittany ferry port of Caen is a motorway drive of 7 hours. There is a train station in Bergerac on the main Bordeaux-Sarlat line with connections to Paris and Eurostar from Bordeaux or Libourne. Calais is 880km or 8h30m.
Bergerac Airport 8km (7 mins). Bergerac centre 10km (12 mins). Issigeac 13km (15 mins). Eymet 20km (20 mins). Saint Emilion 60km (1 hour). Sarlat 80km (1 hour 20 mins). Bordeaux 100km (90 mins) Arcachon/Dune de Pyla 170km (2 hours with no traffic). Calais 880km (8 hours 30 mins). Paris about 5 hours drive. Barcelona about 5 hours drive
Slightly further afield are the towns of Bordeaux, Sarlat and Cahors, and then there is the Walabi theme park for the kids (all about 90 minutes by car). Drive through varied landscapes to discover just how historically rich this area is, from pre-historic caves (Lascaux, Proumeyssac, Padirac and many more), to Roman ruins and medieval towns and villages. For sports people, there is karting (age 7 upwards) 10 minutes away and the Aquaparc (also 10 minutes) has three pools with slides for the children, and bowling, Laser Play, an indoor play area, and mini golf next door. The Dordogne and Vezere rivers offer either tranquil or exciting canoeing as well as fishing. There is a riding stable very close to us, near the Chateau de Bridoire and plenty of country lanes and tracks to walk. For eating out, our personal favourites are the Tour des Vents restaurant (now with a michelin star) with a marvellous view over the Dordogne landscape, and L'Imparfait in Bergerac top the culinary bill. With children it's hard to beat the elegant but informal Pizzeria in Eymet. Many villages now host a 'marche nocturne' during the summer, a night market, where one buys local food cooked in the square. Grab a place at one of the trestle tables and with a few bottles of the local wine (also on sale), before you know it you'll be speaking French! Monbazillac has its own night market every Sunday. Bergerac prides itself as a cultural tourist centre and they lay on free jazz concerts on Wednesdays in the summer, as well as a succession of exhibitions, arts and crafts, informative river boat trips in a "gabarre" (traditional boat) on the Dordogne and not forgetting the spectacular July 14th firework display over the river.

“We are perched on the Monbazillac plateau, hidden among our own vines. The most frequent comment we get from guests is the feeling of space all around the property. The pool is hidden from the main house and the gite, with a view over meadows leading to woods and vines.”
