Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The Mediterranean coast and a choice of beaches are less than half an hour's drive away.

Travel:

The nearest airports are: Cap D'Agde/Beziers (approx 15 minutes drive) and Montpellier (approx 45 minutes drive) Other airports within 2 hours drive are: Perpignan, Carcassonne, Nîmes, Toulouse and Marseille. Major car hire operators are at the airports. By train, connect via Eurostar from Paris to Beziers in approx. 4-5 hours. From Beziers there is a regular bus service or taxis to Servian. There are also good road connections from the Channel ports/Paris via the new Millau viaduct on the A75.

Distances:

Nearby places of interest include: Adge on the Herault River, believed to be the second oldest town in France; Marseillan, home of the Noilly Prat production plant; the Bassin de Thau, famous for oysters and the Canal du Midi (as featured in Rick Stein's "French Oydessy"). Cultural Pezenas is the nearest town and in the other direction, historic Beziers the nearest city. Both within 10 -15 minutes drive.

Further Details:

Servian is a traditional wine producing village located between the sea and mountains, set on a hill overlooking the vineyards in the heart of the Hérault. The old town is 15th century with many narrow, twisting streets. Within walking distance in the village there are two cafe/bars that also serve lunch; two good restaurants with indoor/outdoor dining (a 3rd one is die to popen this summer!) a selection of takeaways (Oriental, pizza, kebabs etc) a bank, two cashpoints, post office, various shops including 3 bakers & 2 pharmacies, as well as a regular market, usually 3 times a week. There is also a local wine cave, local doctors, dentist and a vet. Within a short walk is also a large supermarket, a petrol station, large municipal swimming pool, tennis courts and sports centre. The surrounding area is great for cycling, walking and picnics. There is a good choice of Mediterranean beaches close by, the nearest being the fashionable holiday resort of Cap d`Agde with beautiful long sandy beaches. Try to catch one of the local water jousting tournaments that take place throughout the summer in Adge, Marseillan and Sete! Both the Herault River and the Canal du Midi offer opportunities for fishing, boat trips and hire. At Cap D'Agde there is also a golf course, horse-riding and various watersports including wind surfing, scuba diving and jet ski hire.

To the north of Servian is the pretty River Orb with its river beaches, ideal for swimming, canoeing & picnics. Further north the terrain becomes more mountainous in the National park where you can visit gorges and inland lakes such as Lac du Salagou. Ideal for bathing, windsurfing, fishing and hilly walks.

The pool area is quiet and secluded with plenty of space for sunbathing or eating al fresco, as it also benefits from a outdoor summer kitchen which includes a fridge, sink and bbq plus an outside bathroom with toilet and shower. No need to go back indoors for anything! The garden has an original well (covered), palm trees and french lavender beds. There is also a large leafy south facing terrace to the front of the house, very private, ideal for breakfast or enjoying the sun going down in the evenings. Utility Room: Washing machine. Iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Beds are made up on arrival with good quality bed linen & towels mostly from the White Company and M&S. We also provide beach towels and tea towels. For stays of longer than 2 weeks a full changeover of towels and bed linen will be offered mid stay. Other: In addition to the indoor dining area there is additional seating for eating outdoors both on the front terrace and down by the pool. The 3 large bedrooms are off a central hallway, all fitted with ceiling fans and large windows with electronic shutters.
