16c Manoir private heated pool, huge private garden set in 25 ha, lake with boat

Overview

Property

Manoir Penderff, near Lignol 56160, Morbihan, Brittany, France - Wonderful Views, Secluded But Not Isolated, Being Only 5 Minutes From The Village

Penderff is a 16c century Manoir set in its own land with wonderful views. It has been our family home for 10 years and we have decided to invite guests to enjoy it for the summer months. It was fully renovated a few years ago and retains all the charm of a very old house, we even have some arrow slit windows and the stone walls are over 3' thick, but it contains all the modern fittings and comforts that you would expect in a home. Penderff is set in a elevated position commanding views on two sides of the forest and river valley, with the village nestled in the middle. We have 25 hectares of our own land waiting to be explored, a small lake with rowing boat you are welcome to use, the river and even a ruined mill. When walking, the only sounds to be heard is the river winding its way or the birds. Our land adjoins a large forest with many tracks and trails which are available for walking. There are many places for picnics and relaxing, or painting and sketching.

About the Owner

We are in our late 50's with an informal and relaxed attitude to life. We don't stand on ceremony here, life is too short! We have one adult son who lives in England. We both originate from Buckinghamshire where we lived in the same village for 21 years. I was working and studying for a diploma in counciling whilst Jeremy was working in the prison service in a high security prison and after 8 years really felt like he had had enough of the stressful work involved, we moved to Penderff after falling in love with it after seeing it whilst holidaying in the area. We have three pet dogs who are all friendly,(they are kept in our summer abode of the mobile home!) one horse and pony, one cat, some chickens and canaires. We love life in the county and are happy to rent out our beautiful home. We are always aware that this is a precious holiday that guests have looked forward too, so maintain a discrete presence but are on hand if needed! We stay down in the woods in a mobile home. We want our guests to feel totally at home here and relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. We love what we do here and I think that it is reflected on our many repeat bookings, we now have so many more friends who come back to us again and again.

If you would like to see for yourself a little of life at Penderff, you can follow us on Facebook penderff holiday home. It has day to day life and lots of photos. Our guests also put their pics and comments.

Judith and Jeremy were so friendly and made us feel so welcome in their wonderful home. The house is very spacious inside with everything you would need and the view out of the main bedroom is fantastic. It has a very large, well maintained garden, great for children to play in, a lovely pool, with amazing views and it is so idyllic. We also had great fun in the rowing boat on the lake and walking around the property in the woods by the river.

Also the extras provided like the delicious home made cake, wine, the welcome pack for breakfast the next day, a friendly face and all the help regarding where to go in the local area makes this property stand out from the rest.

We would thoroughly recommend this property for a quiet and very relaxing get away from it all holiday. Many thanks to Judith and Jeremy and this is a place we would definitely come back again.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for us. I ask all our guests, if in fact reading the reviews does help them in making a decision on where to book and in all cases this is true, so thank you for your opinion on us. It was such a pleasure having you and the family staying, it was lovely to see the boys making so much of the space to play football and games. Jeremy and I would love to see you again, you would be very welcome!

Tranquil peaceful Penderff

  • 5 of 5

Our party stayed at The Manoir at the start of July. It was everything that we imagined and more. We were welcomed with a homemade cake and wine and all things needed for a continental breakfast for the following day was provided.

The Manoir itself was beautiful, very comfortable, spotlessly clean and well maintained. It had everything that we needed. The master bedroom and bathroom were amazing with vaulted ceiling and two Juliette balconies overlooking the gardens. We were looking for privacy and peace and quiet and we found it here, relaxing in the garden, playing croquet or swimming in the pool.

Judith and Jeremy were on hand to give suggestions or ideas but were never intrusive.

We thoroughly recommend this property for a wonderful holiday, thank you very much!

Peaceful Haven

  • 5 of 5

This holiday was absolutely stunning. The property is extrodinary, and greatly cared for and restored by the owners, Judith and Jeremy. The high ceilings of the bedrooms and living area make it a lovely airy holiday home while the hot weather outside for sun bathing fitted well with the AMAZING pool to cool down in: which was very well maintaned by Jeremy !

Jeremy and Judith were happy to recommend a number of places to visit and eat, and they offered amazing customer service and were just geniunely kind and helpful people to have around !

The vast land that they own makes it great for walks, and the little rowing boat by the lake is good fun.

AND if you are a particular fan of baths like me, this property has the most gorgeous tubs to soak in !!

Would recommend this to anyone and everyone such a relaxing week with my family, thank you ! :-)

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We love our Manoir so much and spend so much time and effort making it everything that we dream of that our guests can see that. We wanted a house of character, history, it had to be warm and friendly, not ostentatious, and to be in surroundings that were peaceful and tranquil , I think we got it right. Jeremy and I are so pleased that you and your family had a wonderful time. It was a pleasure meeting you all and you would be very welcome at any time in the future. I in particular am so happy that you love our new bath!

Wonderful Penderff!

  • 5 of 5

A thoroughly enjoyable week in a lovely family home, Penderff is in a location, commanding views over the delightful countryside, We swam in the pool every day and made the most of the huge garden. Judith and Jeremy have been great and attentive hosts. How often can you walk along your own stretch of river to the local restaurant before returning safely in a sky lit up by thousands of stars. Magical!

Fantastic week....

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a great stay in this house. We loved the location, pool and size of the living space meaning that there was always plenty of room for the children to run around. The pool was kept beautifully clean and Judith and Jeremy could not have been more welcoming... The beach is a drive away but Lignol is a walk away with nice restaurants particularly for children, the croissants from the boulangerie were the best we have ever tasted. All in all a great time.

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

The pictures of the house and gardens do not do this wonderful place justice.

The farmhouse is spacious, immaculately clean and well stocked with everything you could need for a self catering holiday. It is a lovely touch that the owners provide a homemade cake on your arrival also a welcome pack of essentials and croissants and fruit so you don't have to rush out to the shops.

The garden is huge and the pool is plenty big enough for the whole family to swim about and play.

Our children also loved exploring all the grounds and enjoyed the lake and rowing boat.

The village is close by which you can get to by a lovely walk down the river. In the village there are great restaurants and a bakery which sells the best bread and pastries.

The owners Judith and Jeremy, were perfect hosts and were available if needed but not intrusive in anyway and were fountain of knowledge regarding the area.

This place is perfect for anyone wanting some peace and quiet in a beautiful location and property but still close by to amenities and activities. I would definitely recommend this place.

Location

From the Owner

Why the owner chose a home in this location. We fell in love with Penderff as it is peaceful, beautiful and tranquil, the views are breathtaking, and the fact that we don't have to move off our own land to enjoy fabulous walks whilst not meeting a soul. The Manoir itself is friendly and welcoming and you feel very relaxed. Locally there are many forests, walks, rivers and streams as well as history in its adjacent towns. There is so much to see and do and we are central for most places in Brittany. We are within 40 mins of the south coast beaches which means that you are not surrounded by crowds of holiday makers and busy traffic, but close enough to enjoy a seaside holiday. The countryside is diverse, its not flat and arable but woods, hills and valleys and the Nantes Brest canal is also close by. We are so easy to get to, 2hrs from St Malo ferry port. We purchased Penderff after only seeing it once, we were that sure.

Activity and Interests

We have had many guests who are artists, they all say that the estate, especially the area around the ruined mill is perfect for painting and sketching, the area is totally unspoilt and untouched.

We can also arrange (subject to availability) private yoga lessons, an Indian Head massage or Reiki, all in the comfort of the Manoir.

Children's riding lessons also can be arranged at a fully accredited riding stables a five minute drive away.

IF the weather is inclement there is a huge indoor pool with water sl

Coast/Beach:

The truly astounding southwest beaches are approximately 40 minutes away by car with the resorts Guidel-Plage, Lamore-Plage and the Ile de Groix close by. There are many, beautiful beaches in Morbihan, from small coves to large sweeping beaches. You can choose from family beaches which have full facilities, to isolated and wild rugged ones. We are ideally situated for the south and north coasts so you are always spoilt for choice. There are also many islands in the Golfe de Morbihan.

Distances:

Lignol 1 mile. Guemene sur Scorff 4 miles. Pontivy 15 miles. Lorient 18 miles.

Vannes 40 miles.

Further Details:

In Lignol there is a very good bakery, their croissants are the best that I have ever eaten! We also have two good restaurants and a bar. In the next village of Kernescleden there is a very good village shop selling all manner of things including wine, it is a 4 min drive from the gite. In Guemene a 6 mins drive there are several restaurants and bars. There are 2 banks, 2 supermarkets, two garages. Here you will also find the doctor and dentist if needed. If its clothes shopping you are interested in, Lorient is the place which also has a world class marina and restaurants. A 25 mins drive away you will find the Lac de Guerledan, its very beautiful and 7.5 miles long. Dotted around its shores are little hamlets, especially Anse de Sordan and Beau Rivarge, both of which have beaches which are safe for swimming, canoes and pedalos for hire and restaurants. There are also motor boat trips around the lake. Also in the same area is the lovely abbey of Bon Repos. A 12C Cisercain abbey that is being restored and is well worth a visit. In August every year they host an evening of story telling and lights which is always a sell out. On Sundays there is a colourful market beside the abbey and the Nantes/Brest canal. A little further afield 50 mins are the famous standing stones at Carnac, which is at the gateway to the Golf de Morbihan and its hundreds of islands, again one can visit by boat. We give lots of helpful tips and advice in our welcome pack.

Children's riding lessons can be arranged at a fully credited stables five minutes away by car from Penderff. Past guest's fully recommend this.

We are an animal loving family with three pet dogs, two cats and some hens. The dogs are kept in the owner's enclosed garden for those guests who are not dog lovers!

Facilities

From the Owner

We are within easy reach of towns and shops but whilst at Penderff not a car can be heard. We have 100 acres of our own land for walking around, a little fishing lake with rowing boat, ruins and woods to explore and the river to walk along. The views from the Manoir are second to none and I will never get tired of looking out of the window.
