Guestbook comments from the owner

Just wanted to say we had the best family holiday! We loved Compass Cottage, such amazing views, and a lovely village. We really appreciated the high standard of accommodation, and the house suited us perfectly. We love spending quality family time with our children and grandchildren and will definitely be returning next year.

Mr and Mrs B. James, Oxford

Thank you for a wonderful family week, we had a holiday to remember with all three generations. The house was absolutely perfect for our young grandchildren and we all had an especially comfortable and relaxing stay. Mr and Mrs Hall, Reading

What a fantastic property, we loved it! The house suited everyone, the area is beautiful and we had some brilliant days with the kids on the beach. Looking forward to our next visit already. Mr and Mrs Johnson, Lewes

So good we've booked Compass for our 4th season!

  • 5 of 5

My review August 2015 is on this website. We went again in 2016 and all three generations of our family like it so much that we have booked again for July 2017. Compass Cottage remains an idyllic place to stay. It is spotlessly well maintained with a responsive helpful owner. It is spacious, with areas to be together and areas to be apart: in the house, in the front and back gardens and in the conservatory. It is in a wonderful location with plenty to do in the area, most notably for us beautiful walks to the coastal footpath and down to various uncrowded bays and beaches.

Lovely property in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We are a family group of three couples meeting up for a special celebration. This large, airy and comfortable house was perfect for us. It has lots of space for relaxing, dining and cooking with useful areas in the garden. The house provides large spaces for everyone to get together as well as spaces for more private relaxation if required. Tasteful furnishings gave a comfortable and restful ambiance and the whole house was bright and spotless. The master bedroom is beautiful. The views from the property are splendid, and there are lots of opportunities for both long and short walks from the house. Good wi-fi although mobile phone reception is poor, but hey it's the countryside.

More family home than holiday rental

  • 5 of 5

Compass Cottage is even better than it looks on the website. There is ample room on the ground floor for our three generations to be separate yet together, sitting chatting in the large kitchen, playing games or reading at one end of the huge lounge, watching DVDs at the other, or sitting in the garden. And the dedicated dining room means you don't have to disturb people to set the table. There are lots of thoughtful touches, such as two fridges (one for food, the other for beer and fizz in our case...), books for all ages and tastes, games and toys. Wonderful walks straight from the cottage to the coastal footpaths and various beaches. The owner was helpful and prompt in all communications. We love it so much we are returning for our third year.

Wonderful spacious property with great views!

  • 5 of 5

The house was very inviting, clean, comfortable, well maintained and had plenty of room for our party of 7 (, including 5 children). It is ideal for both couples and families of all ages. The house overlooks beautiful scenery and there are plenty of walks and it is central to many places of interest, including locally, Corfe Castle and Swanage. The beaches neaarby are worth a visit as are the cliff views. We were fortunate to visit somewhere new each day as the weather was glorious all week. The owner was very friendly and helpful. There was also a welcome pack to help us get started. We would definitely return again.

A REAL HOLIDAY-MAKER

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful base for a Purbeck big family holiday, this comfortable house admirably served the needs of our party of nine with ages ranging from 12-weeks to 66yrs. Listing accuracy - 10/10, location and layout - 10/10. Facilities 10/10 - especially the two fridges. Cleanliness on arrival - 10/10 Well-maintained 9/10 customer service - 11/10 thanks to a communicative and conscientious owner. We'd definitely recommend it. Parents of young children will need to be vigilant about the steep drive gradient and garden steps. A paradise for children with its thoughtfully brilliant selection of books, amazing toys (Brio train and dolls' house especially awesome) and games. One very minor neg - meals in the lovely conservatory dining room were huge fun but the dining chairs seem very low. We actually had a laugh when we sat down and the table came up to our chests - a very minor thing in the grand scheme of things but perhaps more suitable chairs might be found? All things considered, one would be hard put to find a house superior to this one. Overall 9.9/10.

Superb house & pretty location for a group holiday

  • 5 of 5

As a group off three families, Compass Cottage has won our collective hearts. We first booked in April 2014, came back in 2015 and have now rebooked for 2016. We have no reason to look anywhere else, Compass Cottage is everything we need and want in a holiday home.

Compass Cottage is a tardis. I admit I worried when we first pulled up that all 10 of us might find it a squeeze, but as soon as we opened the front door we quickly realised we had all the space we needed and more!

The house is well equipped and cleaned to an excellent standard. The owners couldn't be more helpful, whether it be arranging the bedrooms in the best configuration for the guests, or recommending local sights. The welcome pack (wine, biscuits etc) is a very sweet touch.

The house is large and sprawling, so even inclement weather is not an issue. There are enough games, books and space to keep everyone happy.

Locally we recommend the Worth Matravers Tea Shop in the village for a very special cream tea in an idyllic setting. The walk to Winspit is worth effort and probably suitable for age 8 and upwards. Durlston Park is absolutely glorious - the views are stunning.
