Cottage in Centre of Kingsbridge, 10 Minutes Drive to Salcombe, Many Superb Beaches nearby

Updated: 07-Aug-2016
Cottage in Kingsbridge, South Devon, England - 2 Minutes Walk on the Flat from Shops, the Estuary, Many Pubs and Excelent Restaurants

200 year old stone built cottage in the oldest part of Kingsbridge. Right in the centre of the town.

There is Parking in Devon Square for 1 car right outside house.

The cottage is a short stroll from the estuary for the ferry to Salcombe and beaches, Creeks End for a drink and all local shops, pubs and restaurants are very close.

Cottage has recently been completely refurbished throughout (due to burst pipe in loft which flooded house) all rooms re-carpeted, new bathroom, and many new pieces of furniture and new beds. All Bedrooms have TV and DVD players.

This is the owners much loved second home and we have extensive family connections in town.

This really is a comfortable cottage to stay in with friendly neighbours, many games, films and books for the odd rainy stay at home day.

Loads of great restaurants serving local produce within a few minutes walk of the front door. The best steaks we have ever had in the steakhouse 2 minutes away (great cocktails too).

Many interesting places to visit such as Dartmoor, Dartmouth, Totnes, and the English Riviera are within easy reach of Kingsbridge.

There are a great number of good safe beaches within a 10 to 15 drive from Kingsbridge. North and South sands in Salcombe. Thurlestone and South Milton are close and Torcross and Slapton Sands are where the Normandy landing were practised 70 years ago. (operation Tiger)

Bantham and the walk or sea tractor to Burgh Island are well worth a visit.

The South Devon Coastal path is easily reached from Kingsbridge.

As we are right in the centre of Kingsbridge we are not a quiet cottage in the middle of nowhere and it can sometimes be a little noisy in the evening. whilst this isn't ideal and has worsened over the years with pubs opening later. we feel that it doesn't bother us to much and is vastly outweighed by the convenience of being able to go out in the evening into town without worrying about parking and never being more than a few minutes walk from home and a nice cup of tea and a comfortable sofa to relax in.

About the Owner

This property was bought by me (tony) as it was next door to the cottage i stayed in as a child. I bought this house while I still lived with my parents.

I have relatives in the town and i met my wife in Kingsbridge.

This is our much loved family home our children cannot bare to leave when we are there.

Great holiday rental

This is a very well equipped holiday cottage. Lots of entertainment, games, DVDs etc, for the children. The kitchen is especially well equipped. Only thing we missed was a dishwasher! It is in a great location near the town centre and the estuary. It is very quiet and comfortable, a real home from home. We visited for a week with our daughter, two grandchildren and dog. Weather wasn't great but lots to do nearby. Great family pub very near to the cottage, food was excellent. Owners are very easy to deal with and extremely helpful.

lovely week

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a lovely week in this very comfortable cottage. It has a great homely feel and has all the mod cons you could want.

We were lucky with the weather and it was great to be in the centre of town for evenings out having a bite to eat or a drink at creeks end or the crabshell and never being more than a short stroll from your front door and putting your feet up. If you don't walk so well you are on the flat at the bottom of town.

There are some great beaches nearby and the dog had a great time

Even though you are near kingsbridges limited " nightlife" we were not bothered and the odd loud voice was nothing compared to how convenient this cottage was for us.

Nice but....

  • 4 of 5

Lovely property, well equipped and spacious and central to all amenities and ideally situated to explore the local beaches and towns.

The owners were very helpful and accommodating with our queries.

However it should be noted that the property does not have a back garden and backs on to a nightclub, which is open until 3am for four nights a week. If you are a light-sleeper, you may want to take this into consideration!

Owner's Response: Devon Square is a very old block of brewers cottages which are about 300 years old, the brewery is behind Devon Square & now houses Kingsbridge's little night club. We are in the centre of town which is very convenient for being able to walk everywhere in Kingsbridge & never be more than 5 minutes from a nice comfy sofa and a cup of tea. Over the years we have had the cottage, pubs nearby are open later the town has become busier and what was an over 30's bistro and dancing venue has become an updated little night club. Whilst this can cause some noise in the summer holidays with people leaving the club mainly, & sometimes being a little loud, i have a little soft spot for it as i met my wife there 20 years ago. They do have door staff on patrol to keep people quiet, but sometimes this is not 100% successful. I only rent the cottage to people i have spoken to and I always tell them that particularly in the summer holidays Kingsbridge is a busy vibrant place that can be noisy, & that if you are trying to book a cottage that is in the middle of nowhere for that rural idyll. 8 Devon Square is not for you. Over the 25 years i have rented this cottage I have had very few complaints and I feel that this person was perhaps a little unlucky to have been there on a very busy Saturday night. Now that I am in my 50's I am not a regular late night pub or nightclub visitor but i appreciate that younger people are. we were all young once & some of us will have been a little noisy at times. If you have children who are over 18 it is a very safe environment for them to go out on their own and if as a visitor to the house you want to go to the club if you let me know i can contact the manager to possibly arrange discount passes. Please don't let this put you off what is a really comfortable cottage which is very convenient for going out in Kingsbridge as well as getting to loads of great beaches and many places in the local area. Being able to park your car right outside the front door in Kingsbridge town centre, is very rare thing. I think it is difficult for every holiday cottage to be perfect but we love our cottage and my kids who are 11 & 13 can't wait for their stays at the house and are not happy that they can't stay longer as we have to rent it to help pay the bills, we never have a problem sleeping. We sleep with the windows closed in the summer & have fans in all the bedrooms if it is very hot. The stone walls keep it cool.
