Farmouse Locmaria (Sleeps 4/6. 2 Bedrooms)
One double, one twin/double and also a double sofa bed in the living room. We loved the completely open beamed space upstairs so we planned the rooms upside down to keep that feel - so the sitting room and dining room occupy the full length of the first floor and have great views across the valley to the village of Langoelan and beyond. There's an original stone fireplace with woodburner and TV/DVD/CD player with Freesat, bar billiards table and plenty of books and games to occupy your evenings. The dining table seats 10 easily - so works well if you wanted to book both houses but have the option of eating together. The large farmhouse kitchen has a table to seat 6 and is equipped to a very high standard - including plenty of cookbooks should you feel the urge to try something new and a dishwasher. Relax with a book or dine al fresco on the south-facing or west-facing terrasses which are for your private use. BBQ available.
Locmaria - rural tranquility
Welcome to Locmaria - two sympathetically renovated and beautifully presented 18th Century stone farmhouses set in 4 acres with fantastic views over the peaceful Breton countryside, just outside the village of Langoelan. A real home from home and a great base for discovering all that Brittany has to offer - or if you prefer, you can simply relax by the pool, explore the fantastic countryside around the farm and enjoy some of our local restaurants. Farmhouse sleeps 4-6 and Grange sleeps 2/3.
We have worked hard to ensure that both cottages are furnished to a very high standard and are presented as we would wish them to be if we were coming here for our holiday.
Whether you are looking to relax by the pool with a book or need a comfortable base to explore Brittany, Locmaria is the perfect choice. We are happy to make recommendations for days out, restaurants, walks in the forest or by the Nantes-Brest canal. In 2015 Brittany's largest lake, the Lac de Guerledan is being emptied for repairs to the dam and you will be able to see the villages that were submerged 50 years ago as they emerge from the water - there will be special events and exhibitions throughout the year.

Fabulous gite and very welcoming owners!
About the Owner
About Nadine Mason
We're David and Nadine Mason and bought what was a ruined farm over 15 years ago and have enjoyed bringing these beautiful buildings back to life. We set out to create gites that are as we would want them to be if we were coming here on holiday. That's why we have furnished them with high quality furniture, generous amounts of crockery, glassware and cutlery and kitchen knives that get sharpened regularly!
Locmaria is a haven of peace and we love to share it with our guests - many of whom have come back several times as they now love it as much as we do. We are always happy to go the extra mile to make sure you have a great stay - recommendations for places to visit, restaurant bookings or even sticking your bikes on the top of the Landrover so that you can start further afield.
Nadine Mason purchased this farmhouse in 1998
Why Nadine Mason chose Le Faouet area
We chose the area because it had lots of green-edged roads on the Michelin map - and the scenery and empty roads do not disappoint whether you are travelling by car, motorbike or bicycle. We can recommend some great routes for rides out in the car and some of the best motorbiking roads in France - often with some great recommendations for attractions and of course lunch along the way.
Our location in the centre of Brittany means you really can make the most of all that the region has to offer - but is still accessible for a weekend visit. We love the peace and quiet but also quick and easy access to bustling towns, great restaurants and beautiful beaches. Nowhere is more than 90mins drive through beautiful countryside on empty roads but there's loads to do in the local area too.

Fabulous gite and very welcoming owners!
We spent an idyllic week at 'Bis' Gite Locmaria; a fabulous gite with everything you could wish for. Very tastefully decorated and situation in a lovely quiet corner of Morbihan. The owners have obviously worked very hard to restore the property but not lose any of its charm. Very welcoming hosts and dogs on arrival! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxed stay.
Our home from home for 10 years
We found this beautiful spot 10 years ago when the children were young and the fact that we have kept coming back and become good friends with the owners speaks volumes. It is truly the loveliest tranquil location. The accommodation is just like home. Everything has been thought of. The pool, the sunsets the hosts. Just perfect. Also Brittany is so varied so we visit different places each time. We particularly love Pont de Trevingon, Lac de Guerdelan and kayaking on the Nantes Brest canal. Best of all on a cloudless night you can see the Milky Way. No one who stays here could be disappointed.
The most relaxing holiday ever
This is the third time we have stayed at Locmaria and we intend to return again because it is quite simply the most relaxing holiday we've ever had. We love the sympathetic style that owners David and Nadine have restored the old buildings and have made comfortable and stylish accommodation. They are nicely decorated and furnished with all the facilities we need. David and Nadine also make the best of hosts, friendly, informative and helpful. It almost feels like coming home! We find it difficult to rouse ourselves from the site enjoying the simple pleasures of just sitting in the sun, reading, having a lunch or an alfresco meal, swimming in the heated outdoor pool, or walking or cycling the local quiet lanes and paths. It's such tranquillity that makes you unwind and forget about the stresses of life. The nearby village of Langoellan is quiet, but the easily reached small attractive towns of Guemene and Rostrenen have a good range of shops. A car is needed to explore Brittany more widely and the coasts, north and south can be reached in just over an hour. However we find the delights of Locmaria itself are usually enough to keep us very happy. Thoroughly recommended. Can't wait until we next return!
Something for everyone
Lovely large luxurious and comfortable farmhouse with everything you could possibly need. Large comfy sofas, Sky tv, wifi, plenty of games, books, dvds and a wonderful heated pool. The location is stunning and the owners David and Nadine are warm, friendly and very helpful without being invasive. Plenty to do for all ages in the surrounding area from walks in the countryside, mooching around the antique/ junk shops in the pretty towns or kayaking down the Nantes Brest canal to sampling the local food. We had great weather and loved relaxing by the pool and watching the sunsets. The beaches ( approx 40 mins drive) are well worth the visit. We hope to be back again one day.

Activity and Interests
Locmaria's central location means that we can recommend quiet and unspoiled beaches on the north and south coasts less than 1hr away (1hr30 for the west coast) - whether you want a gently sloping sandy beach with rockpools for the family or wide open beaches with atlantic rollers for surfing/kite-surfing. We know some great restaurants if you fancy enjoying some fresh Breton seafood. The Lac de Guerlendan 20mins drive away has beaches, watersports, walking, horse-riding and restaurants.
Ferry Ports: Roscoff 1hr15, St Malo 1hr45, Caen 3hrs, Cherbourg 4hrs, Le Havre 4 hr 30 Calais 6-7 hrs.
Airports: Dinard, Brest and Rennes are all approximately 1hr30 from Locmaria.
You will need a car during your stay (or bicycle if you are very keen - and fit!).
The village of Langoelan (1 mile) has boulangerie, bar, 2 restaurants and petrol station. The charming town of Guemene sur Scorff (5 miles) has supermarket and other shopping amenities, banks, bars & restaurants, doctor, dentist and vet. We are happy to make suggestions for visits to local towns and attractions - there's plenty to do within 30mins to 1hr of Locmaria, whether you are looking for activities, culture, history, scenery, things to keep the children entertained or a cracking meal.
We are happy to consider dogs - at our discretion following a conversation with you - and we will ask for a higher deposit. However we are happy to share our Picardy spaniel Islay and our Picardy Blue spaniel Fy with you for the week if you prefer to leave your dog at home.

- Notes on accommodation: In addition to the farmhoue we have the Grange - a truly romantic hideaway, situated up the hill behind the farmhouse - perfect for holidaying with friends or family. It has its own access and parking as well as outside space at both front and back.. The Grange is entered through the fully glazed arched doorway (the original opening through which the farm machinery was brought for storage) which makes the house beautifully light and airy and gives fabulous views of our majestic oak and other trees across the field. Open all year round with underfloor heating in both properties and also woodburning stoves in the sitting rooms. Double-ended roll top bath. Washing machine. Outside: The Farmhouse has a south-facing terrasse at the front of the house and there are outside areas for your private use at both front and back of the Grange, equipped with wooden garden furniture (and BBQ available). The 5 x 10m heated swimming pool has a large sun terrasse with recliners and plenty of space for all to relax and enjoy. The pool area has security fencing to ensure safety for small children. You are welcome to explore the 4 acres of garden, fields, woodland and streams - and there are benches and picnic tables dotted around for you to make the most of our peaceful surroundings. Picnic in the top field with wonderful views and fly your kites; find a sunny spot to read a book in complete peace; at the end of a busy day enjoy the fabulous sunsets with a sundowner at one of the benches dotted around the grounds and don't forget to make time to stand outside later on to appreciate the breathtaking starry skies unspoilt by light pollution.
