Traditional Stone Cottage

Updated: 14-Oct-2016
Cottage in Tredrizzick, Nr Rock, N. Cornwall, England, UK - Peaceful Location, Surfing, Sailing, Golf

This traditional stone built cottage of character is situated in the quiet village of Tredrizzick close to the Camel Estuary at Rock (1.5 miles). There is a long secluded garden which is a wonderful suntrap and includes a barbeque built into the patio wall. The garden runs down to the village square where you can park your cars. The Camel Estuary provides sailing (Rock), Golf (St. Enodoc, Rosearrow and Trevose), swimming and windsurfing at Daymer Bay (1.5 miles and surfing at Polzeath (2 miles) one of the best surfing beaches in England. The Cornish gardens are a delight, especially in the spring. The cottage is ideal for a family holiday, in fact it can accommodate two families and sleep 8-10. However, I would like to stress the cottage is not large, and really does not fit 10 grown bodies. It is also very cosy for a few.

About the Owner

We are a large farming family from Yorkshire and drive 7 hours to get to the cottage, so it must be worth it ! It is also a good sight warmer (usually)

Our family has had many delightful holidays in this cottage and it's great for all ages ,plus dogs :) it's in a great location for wonderful beach and coastal walks. Very well equipped with many wonderful restaurants close by. It's very spacious inside with a delightful sunny enclosed garden. Just about to book our next holiday here next spring. Sadly haven't bumped in to Poldark yet.

Perfect holiday cottage

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely family cottage, all rooms are clean and homely.

The location is perfect- 5 mins drive from Rock and 10 mins from Polzeath.

The garden is perfect from kids to run around in with the knowledge that are safe within the grounds.

The lack of a large TV and excess electrical gaming equipment made the whole holiday more family oriented- games night was a hit.

We will return

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind words about our much loved cottage, kind about the television ! We played a lot of family games as in those days we would not put a TV in for this reason, we also put £1 coins in for the meter for electric which ran out regularly which made it more fun. Yes the garden is a great asset.

Gorgeous, homely cottage with a lovely big garden. Very well located (ten mins from Polzeath, and five from Rock...). We were there at Christmas and loved the sitting room and the fire, the well-equipped kitchen, play-areas for kids, and our very comfy bed upstairs. The kids loved the bunk-beds too! We'll be back. Thank you for such a a lovely stay.

Charming, cosy, Cornish Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Trewillig Cottage is full of character, so different from all the new builds you see around. It is really cosy and charming. The garden is great, a good size, sheltered and enclosed. The house is very well set up for children, lots of beds, travel cot and a high chair.

It is perfectly located for all the beautiful beaches and restaurants around but we were also very happy to spend quiet afternoons in the garden.

This cottage is a hidden gem, we loved it and will definitely come back again!

A very special place

  • 5 of 5

Trewillig is a very special place to us. In the last three years that we have been going the more we love it. A great sized garden for bbq's and kids to run around in, shops and great restaurants near by and the infamous Rock and Polzeath beach only a two minute drive away. Although simple it's FULL of character and obviously very loved by it's family. We highly recommend it and hope to have many more lovely trips there in the future.

Trewillig is a lovely cottage set back from the road so is very quiet. It is so close to the local pub and shops and just a few minutes drive from some beautiful beaches which are dog friendly.

Inside the cottage is lovely, the ten of us and two dogs fitted in easily.

It really is a comfortable family home and we all loved it.

Something to add to the description though would be that there is a travel cot and upper stair gate - we took our own but it would have been easier to have used the ones provided.

We would all recommend Trewillig to friends and relatives and hopefully we will be returning ourselves.

From the Owner

My grandparents bought this property in this area because they honeymooned down in the Rock Hotel, catching a train to Padstow and then the ferry over with their bicycles and dogs ! My Grandmother in a long tweed skirt, but she also surfed and loved the walks and estuary, the air, the soft water and the Cornish people. My Grandfather was very serious about prawning and often provided the supper with his catch. The cottage is tucked away, and sheltered even on a windy day, you can walk in the fields behind, and it is very peaceful. They thought it a lovely idea to buy a traditional Cornish cottage and we will not over modernise it, consequently it has great character. It is not over the top and the back is a good area for wellies and wet clothes. Most people return and also want to buy it.

Special interest holidays:

The Black Tor ferry runs from Rock to Padstow all year (times displayed on harbour board), and in the evening a water taxi is available which specialises in taking people to Padstow restaurants such as Rick Stein's (saving the drive to Padstow). Local fishermen offer trips for sea fishing from Padstow or Rock, with mackerel and pollock being the main catch.

Excellent pleasure trips are run from Padstow in powerboats or on the larger Jubilee Queen which tours local bays and islands. The Camel Trail, once the route of the old railway line, is a must for cyclists. It runs alongside the estuary from Padstow to Wadebridge and on to the upper reaches of the River Camel at Bodmin, bikes to suit all ages can be hired locally.

Tredrizzick, being minutes from the village of Rock and its beautiful beaches, is a favoured residential and holiday village. The cottage is a five minute drive from the beaches of Porthilly, Rock, Daymer Bay and Polzeath. Daymer Bay a large beach at low tide and rock pools very suitable for toddlers, safe bathing. Further Details:

Daymer Bay and the village of Trebetherick were both loved by Sir John Betjeman and are unquestionably special. With a huge appeal to both the young and not so young, Daymer Bay has recently been voted one of the best beaches in the world! St. Enodoc Church, once buried in the sand, is within comfortable walking distance of Daymer Bay and is the resting place of Sir John Betjeman. Daymer Bay holds great appeal for wind surfers and is enormous fun too for small children wanting to fish in the many rock pools or simply play in the sand with their buckets and spades.
