About Liz Clery

We are an Irish family who have design and travel businesses and who own 3 Trulli houses in the wonderful region of Puglia. We love to visit this area which is still unspoiled and rural in its simplicity. The quality of the food, restaurants, bars etc is outstanding. We love to visit en-masse, or simply pop down for a quick break. We have taken considerable care when renovating and restoring each house to capture the spirit of the ancient Trulli houses, and decorated each to a high standard. As Trulli Mimosa was lived in until we bought it we were able to retain many of the original features, and restore it to how it would have been when the grandparents lived there, traditional in style. The house is very private, with its own gardens and pool. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do

Liz Clery purchased this villa in 2005

Why Liz Clery chose Brindisi area

Our family of two sisters and a brother, husbands and wife and children, fell in love with this area of Italy as it reminds us of summer holidays in the West of Ireland when we were young. It still retains its rural simplicity yet provides high standards of restaurants, shops and bars. The beaches are nearby and are very Italian in nature. We particularly love the people of this area. They cannot do enough for us and are really pleasant and welcoming. Wave and say Ciao to everybody you meet on the road. Ostuni St Michele and Ceglie Messapica are really old towns which have maintained their heritage and history very well. We also love to visit Martina Franca and Cisternino for their restaurants and outdoor markets. It's easy to get to the area via Bari, Brindisi or even Naples airports, or by ferry.

What makes this villa unique

We particularly love the outdoor living at the Trulli. We spent most of our time on the land or around the pool. Our 3 Trulli are on a quiet road and are only minutes from each other. Trulli Stella and Trulli Mimosa share a drive, but are still very secluded and private from each other. The properties are fully equipped with almost everything you could possible need for cooking and enjoying the gardens and pool. The cooking lessons and private dining provided by our caretaker and her Mother are extremely special! They will teach you how to make the pasta a great treat at a very reasonable cost...

Guestbook comments from the owner

Trulli Mimosa has been described variously as 'Paradise' or 'Fairyland' by previous guests, and is already very popular with honeymooners because of its romantic settings.

Michaela and family said...We enjoyed our stay at mimosa very much! it is really a lovely place. the kids loved the pool - and it is a big one too (sometimes pictures on the internet give you an impression and then reality is totally different - but not so at mimosa!)everything was just fine. Mimosa felt like home! we really appreciated what you did with the interior design of the place and and all the gardening! the place is important to you and so well kept - we could see and feel it. we will recommend mimosa to all our friends.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the 5 stars, I am always delighted to get a good review, it reflects all the hard work the team put into having the property in tip top condition. You only meet the Managers and maybe the gardener, but there is a large team working to keep up the quality of the property. All the best Liz

So cute and authentic with all mod cons

  • 5 of 5

If you want to experience true Italian life then Trulli Mimosa is out of this world. We loved every moment from start to finish. The house has two bedrooms, one quite small but so charming! The round bathroom is so cute and we loved the outside space with all the different places to sit and dine. The pool is enormous and really great for children.. everything has been thought through in terms of comfort and there are lots of shady places to sit and enjoy the considerable sunshine.

Wisteria and sunshine

  • 5 of 5

Your garden reminded us of the movie Enchanted April, the garden is so beautiful , we wandered along the little paths and tried to identify all the flowers and fruit trees. We sat on the Veranda looking towards the pool and watched the dragonflies and swifts dip down to drink the water. We hadn't realised how much birdsong and nature there would be. We had such a relaxing time, we slept like baby's and loved it all. Thank you so much for sharing your lovely home.

Owner's Response: Dear Guest I am so happy you had such a lovely time. We have put 12 years of work into the restoration of the Trullo and created the garden from a field. We laid the garden and pool out around the ancient olive trees and the 300 year old cypress tree. Sadly Puglia lost all of its Palm trees 4 years ago due to a beetle from North Africa, and we lost ours. We kept the Trullo as authentic as possible, with many original features such as the original stone floors and the hall door, we even bought and moved a small trulli with cone to build the bathroom so that all the stones match and you cant see that it is new from the outside. Many Thanks

Quaint, well equipped, isolated.

Our party consisted of four adults. We arrived on a sunny day to be met by the helpful and accommodating manager Kevin. First impressions as we drove along the driveway and arrived at the property were - beautifully restored Trulli house, lovely pool and neat gardens. On closer inspection of the house we were a little disappointed by the size and feel it would be suitable only for 2 adults and 2 small children. We had to move furniture in order to accommodate our suitcases on the available floor area. Main bedroom lovely and bed ok. The second bedroom really not suitable for adults, the two single beds had been pushed together however the mattresses were not the same height and, on closer inspection one mattress in particular appeared very old with protruding springs. This despite many assurances from the owner that the mattresses were new and more than suitable for adults. Thankfully Kevin was able to provide us with several quilts to 'cushion' the mattress which made it just bearable.

Bathroom adequate with good pressure in shower but extremely poor pressure at basin, impossible to get hot water there within a reasonable time frame.

No wifi for the entire week although in fairness this was apparently due to storm activity, however it was inconvenient since the nearest town is a good 15-20 minute drive.

On a positive note, kitchen well equipped with all utensils, pots etc as well as essentials such as oil, food wrap etc. We appreciated the basic food items, cereal, bread, milk etc which had been left for us, Washing machine was also appreciated after several weeks travel.

Plenty of pool furniture although cushions and chairs quite tired looking and some of the furniture unusable as it was soaking wet due to being left in the rain prior to our arrival.

Considering the cost we would have expected better mattresses at least.

Beautiful setting and gardens, an attractive trullo

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay, and enjoyed exploring the local area. The main bedroom is comfortable and spacious and the interior was cool in AUgust summer weather. Lovely spacious garden and lots of seating areas we enjoyed, could really spread out. We found the house manual a little confusing with distances, locations and recommendations - but once we got to grips with the area that was fine. The bathroom was fine and kitchen too, although a little old fashioned. We preferred to use the shower outside as 4 of us sharing one bathroom/toilet. A lot of the pool toys were broken and there was no pump which was a shame but again not a major problem. It was authentic and somewhere very different to stay that was comfortable and fun. Communications were good and the property was managed by helpful and friendly Enlgish speaking managers. Thank you.

Owner's Response: Dear Guest I am happy you had a great time at the Trulli, it is amazing how the Trulli stays cool even in the heat of August, that's why the walls are 2 meters thick, the ancestors who would have built the Trulli by hand with a hammer and chisel really understand how to build in stone. We love the outside shower too, it is great fun having a shower under a tree. Thank you for your suggestions on how we can improve things, I now have an electric pump for the pool toys. Many thanks Liz

Beautiful property, wonderful pool and great facilities

  • 4 of 5

As a family of 5 with 3 children aged 13, 11 & 9, Trulli Mimosa did us proud. The kids loved the pool & grounds (with fresh figs & plums) and they could be as noisy as they wanted without disturbing anyone! The master bedroom was fantastic and although the house is more suited to 4 rather than 5, the facilities were great. All the local villages & towns were beautiful, but our favourite was Ceglie Messapica; heading there for an evening meal followed by a gentle stroll became a ritual. We experienced a strong northly wind for some of the week (unusual for Puglia) so rather than using the Ionian beaches all the time we headed further south to Campomarino – where the water was calm, clear and warm. Jacki & Kev (the caretakers) could not have been more helpful
