Experience the tranquillity and comfort of a charming cottage attached to an 18th century farmhouse. La Porcherie has its own private courtyard and there are spectacular views from every window and from the wisteria shaded terrace. It is furnished throughout with French country antiques yet has a sophisticated bathroom and modern and very well equipped kitchen. The cottage and swimming pool with large sun terraces enjoy exceptional vistas which are remarked on by all who visit the property. There are numerous vineyards, villages, chateaux, gardens and sites of historical interest nearby, as well as the more famous wine regions of Bordeaux and St Emilion which are easily reached. Weekly markets abound offering wonderful locally grown produce. There is a good selection of reasonably priced restaurants and a range of sporting facilities from which to choose. The surrounding woods are a haven of peace for those who enjoy walking.

I was lucky enough to spend a month at La Porcherie,a place that feels like a home.The cottage is finished to a very high standard in french style,everything chosen and placed with a designer's eye.Unlike most properties for two people,the rooms are spacious.The kitchen is the best equipped I have ever found in a rental property, and all amenities worked perfectly.The view from the terrace is breathtaking with plenty of space to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful gardens.Although attached the cottage is private and peaceful,not overlooked, with its own entrance and parking. My hosts Alastair and Susie respected my privacy and were a delight to spend time with.The only bad thing was having to leave when my month was up.(Prof. Tom Ormerod.)

Peace and tranquility in the Dordogne

This is the BEST gite we have ever stayed in. The view was stunning and we spent hours just sitting, relaxing and drinking in the peace and tranquility of the setting. The rooms were large and airy and well furnished, with a very comfortable bed and the kitchen very well appointed.Alistair & Susie had thought of literally everything you might need on holiday. This is our favourite part of France and we would love to retire to this area. Perhaps we will have to put up with coming back to La Porcherie, which is a promise. Some tips & hints: For reasonable & cheap wine try out the Cooperative at Sigoules. Eymet & Issigeac are a must to visit, especially on market days..we never tire of going back. Try a gabarre trip on the Dordogne river from Bergerac to the nature reserve; a good alternative to the usual trip people take from La Roche Gageac. Alistair & Susie were excellent hosts, but respected our privacy. The weather was superb and we welcomed the cool gazebo under the wisteria and cooling dips in the lovely pool. Thanks for a superb week and the generous welcome pack on arrival.

Excellent cottage in good location

This is a spacious cottage sympathetically renovated to retain its charms while including all mod cons. The 3 large rooms (plus ensuite) have high ceilings and two rooms have excellent ceiling fans. All rooms have southerly views across miles of farmland and forest. Outside, the private gardens lead to the swimming pool, which is bathed in sun all day. The location is superb, as despite the tranquillity, you are within a few miles of Bergerac, Issigeac and Eymet with shops and restaurants, assuming you can tear yourself away. Thoroughly recommended.

The Best Yet

We were really looking forward to staying in this charming looking cottage, but when we arrived it was even better than we had hoped for. The owners greeted us at the cottage and took us through all the necessary details regarding linen, heating, etc. and even provided us with a "welcome pack", which included home made marmalade, which was delicious. The cottage was absolutely enchanting and the view from every room, quite spectacular. The furnishings are homely, the living room is snug, the kitchen/dining room very well equipped and the bedroom a great size with en-suite shower. It is by far the nicest place we have ever stayed in. We will most certainly be going back again as soon as we can.

The best I have stayed in for long while

This is an excellent gite, in a very quiet peaceful and private location, but actually very close to Bergerac and other local towns. It also has a fantastic view.

The rooms are very spacious, with high quality furniture and fittings, and elegant crockery and tableware. There is even a shelter for your car.

Superb pool with even the pool towels provided. We struggled to find any negatives and plan to return next year.

Coast/Beach:

Arcachon is 180kms and Cap Ferret is 178kms, both have wonderful beaches and sensational seafood restaurants.

Travel:

A car is essential and there are car hire facilities in the towns and airports mentioned. We are 20 mins from Bergerac airport, 90 mins from Bordeaux(merignac) airport and 120 mins from Toulouse airport. Calais driving 9 hours, St.Malo 6.25 hrs and Caen 7 hrs.

Distances:

8kms from Bouniagues and Lauzun.

11kms from Eymet.

16kms from Issigeac.

19kms from Bergerac and the Dordogne river.

3kms from Dropt river.

Further Details:

Kayaking/canoeing on the Dordogne river is easily arranged as is horse riding. Fishing (subject to purchasing the necessary licence) is 10 mins away. A detailed instruction book will be provided as will a brochure detailing local markets, villages, restaurants and places of interest.

The owners in the farmhouse will respect your privacy and are always willing to provide further local information if required. A 'welcome pack' will be provided which will include milk, coffee, tea, sugar and a bottle of wine.

Prices are per week, in pounds sterling, inclusive of electricity/gas, linen and towels. When you book, you will be asked to pay a 30% deposit and to complete a booking form. The final balance is payable 8 weeks before your stay with us. A breakage/damage deposit of £130 is payable with the final balance and will be refunded within 14 days subject to no damage/breakages or excess cleaning required. In the event of a cancelled booking, refunds will be made only if the cottage is re-let.

Saturday. All guests are asked to arrive after 4pm and to depart by 10am.

  • Notes on accommodation: The cottage is not suitable for children and smoking is not permitted. Should wellington boots be required we have a good selection of sizes. We regret pets cannot be accommodated. Outside: Step out of the sitting room onto the secluded terrace which is perfect for alfresco meals. A barbecue and outdoors furniture are provided. Keen cooks can pick fresh herbs from the courtyard and grapes from the vines which shade the windows. There is unrestricted use of the 10x5 metre swimming pool with its two large sun terraces between June and October. Sun loungers and pool towels are provided. The pool is shared only with the owners who very rarely use it. Covered parking for one car is adjacent to the terrace. Utility Room: Washing machine, folding clothes airer, iron and ironing board provided as well as basic cleaning materials. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bedlinen and towels, including pool towels, are provided and will be changed weekly. The cottage will be clean on arrival and we would appreciate it if you would leave it as you found it, in a clean and tidy condition.
