Villa in Garvao, Lower Alentejo.

The house is licensed for habitation for four persons with two bedrooms and a private swimming pool and large exterior patio area. Both bedrooms are situated downstairs, bedroom 1 has a double bed and en-suite shower/bathroom , bedroom 2 has two single beds and the bathroom equipped with a bath/shower is just a few steps across the hall.

Upstairs is a loft area which is not a designated bedroom but has a queen bed and a en-suite shower/bathroom. This room also has a wonderful balcony/patio.

There is a living room equipped with a TV, sofa and two lounge chairs. The kitchen is equipped with an electric oven and stove, refrigerator and microwave. There is a separate dining area with table and chairs that seat at least four persons.

The house is located in Garvao in the rural countryside of southern Alentejo within easy driving of Faro and Lisbon airports. Great quiet beaches e.g. Milfonte, are within easy driving distance of around 30 to 45 minutes. There are also some wonderful historic places Evora to the north being one, and Beja which is closer. The village of Monchique located in the mountains on the way to the Algarve is also very worth a visit.

The Algarve, another region to the south of Garvao is a busy major vacation area where all sorts of activities can be found, water parks, shopping malls and busy beaches all within an easy forty minute or so drive from Garvao.

About the Owner

This is my mother's house. She now resides in UK as she has reached the age where is unable to live by herself. My husband and I live in Texas but we visit Garvao at least once a year. We love the people and the life in Portugal and we hope that you will also. Have a great vacation!

My mother bought the property so she would have guaranteed sunshine in the Spring, Summer and sometimes Autumn. My mother moved into the house in 2005 and it was finally completed in late 2006. Garvao is located in Alentejo, in the countryside. It is a small village with a small family grocery store and post office. Approx 10 minutes away by car is the town of Ourique with local coffee bars/restaurants. There are numerous shops and don't miss the beautiful streets lined with orange trees. Lake Rocha is just 4km away and is a must for fishermen (no motor boats allowed) and bird watchers. Many birds are attracted to the area. Horse riding is also available. Beaches can be reached to the south and west by car in less than an hour. Faro airport is approx. 103.1km and Lisbon 169.8km.

Activity and Interests

Travel:

Approximately 95 Miles from Lisbon on a fast Toll Road (A2) and about 55 Miles from Faro. Car Hire or Use of Car is recommended.

Distances:

There are a couple of small local shops in Garvao the main Supermarket Pinco Doce is in Ourique about 9 Miles away. There is plenty of pretty coutryside and interesting towns and villages within driving distance, e.g. Beja and Milfonte on the Atlantic coast. A must to visit is Evora it is a UN heritage site and is very pretty and interesting only about 1 Hr drive along some very pretty countryside.

Further Details:

The main Supermarket is in Ourique about 9 Miles away. There are banks and post office in Ourique and other small shops.

House is not available for lease from January 1st through March 31st each year.
Deposits can be refunded for cancellations as follows;
Cancellation received prior to 6 weeks before arrival date - 100% Deposit plus Security Fee returned
Cancellation received between 6 and 4 weeks before arrival date - 50% of Rental plus Security Fee returned
Cancellation received between 4 and 2 weeks before arrival date - 25% of Rental plus Security Fee returned
Cancellation received after 2 weeks before arrival date - Only Security Fee returned

Notes on prices:
Pricing is flexible within reason.

To hold a booking we a 25% rental deposit is required plus the security deposit of Euros100 which will be returned after departure, provided there are not any breakages. The balance for the entire rental period to be paid no later than six (6) weeks before the arrival date. Payments by bank transfer. Our preference is direct payment to the bank in Portugal.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.

When you are ready to top up the fridge with some delicious pastries or fresh fish the local supermarket is only 10 minutes away by car.

  • Outside: There is a large two level patio area with outdoor furniture etc with a portable barbecue and a rotary clothes line. There is also a small private swimming pool 18ft x 10ft and approx 7 ft at deep end. There are steps. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included. The property is cleaned each week with necessary change of towels and linen.
